1 Working in Print Studio Print Studio is Autodesk's print preparation software. Print Studio keeps your production moving by analyzing, fixing and preparing your 3D files in minutes. Rotate, size, and position the model on the build surface Automatically locate and fix 3D geometry errors Generate and manage model supports Optimize slicing settings Use preset print profiles or custom print profiles for optimal 3D printing Calculate print time and material requirements Send a printer-ready file to a connected 3D printer or save the printable file Monitor and control print jobs on connected 3D printers Importing a completed model into Print Studio and using the available tools can help ensure printing success. This preparation can save time and money by helping you to avoid the frustration of trial-and-error printing. Step 1: First, use your browser to visit You will need to sign-up (or sign-in if you re already a member). Signing up gives you access to support, software and Dremel s large library of ready-to-print models! Step 2: Navigate to the Support page and scroll down until you see Downloads. Click the Software link. Step 3: Here you will find the latest releases of Print Studio software. Download the appropriate version for your operating system and for the model (3D20 or 3D40) Idea Builder you have.

2 Step 4: Once you ve successfully installed the software, it s time to familiarize yourself with the workspace. The first thing you will want to do is specify the type of printer you have so that the workspace will match. To do this, click the Printers Icon (#2) and choose the correct printer from the dialog box. Print Studio Workspace 1. Prep bar. Click through the workflow steps to prepare your model for 3D printing. Skipping steps in the workflow causes Print Studio to perform those steps automatically. 2. Printers. Connect to and manage printers or select a printer to send the file to later. 3. Settings. Select a material, preset print profile, create a customized print profile, and adjust advanced printer settings. 4. Vertical toolbar. Access tools for each workflow step. 5. ViewCube. Use the Autodesk ViewCube to manipulate the view of the model consistently. 6. Build volume. Sometimes called the printer volume, the white, visual-guide box indicates the available, printable space for the selected printer. 7. Build surface. Sometimes called the bed, it represents the location to which models adhere to when printing. 8. Scene. The entire workspace within Print Studio, including the build platform and the area around it, the build content, and the selected print profile. 9. Object Browser. Use the Object Browser to hide and show the printer's build surface in the scene. It lists all models in the scene, making it easier to work with each individually, as well as provides quick access to change the display units for length.

3 Step 5: For the purpose of this lesson, we are going to use the anatomical heart model, found on Dremel s 3D website here: Simply click the download button and the.stl file will download to your computer. Step 6: To open the model, click Import in the Prep Menu and follow the dialog box to find the file on your computer. Another method is to simply drag the.stl file to the Print Studio icon or workspace. Step 7: The heart model will come into the center of the workplane. To move around the workplane simply press, hold and drag with the right mouse button. Alternatively, you can use the ViewCube in the upper right corner to move around your model. To zoom in or out, use the scroll wheel. Step 8: Using the cursor to click on an object displays its rotation handles. You can click and drag on any of these to rotate your object along the x, y or z axis.

4 Step 9: The move key allows you to manually position an object anywhere on the build plate. There are also commands to automatically center the object, align to build plate and automatically lay out your object. Step 10: The next tab in the tool bar is the Scale tab. You can select a percentage or scale to fit the build plate. This option will scale an object to as large as the plate can accomodate. Step 11: To manually scale an object, simply click and drag one of the handles at the base. Print Studio scales an object proportionally. You can also click any of the unit boxes and enter a value. Again, Print Studio automatically scales the object proportionally. Step 12: To check the dimensions of any part of your model, you can use the Measurement tool. Once selected, click first on the start point of your measurement. Print Studio places a small white circle at the point. Next click at the end point of your measurement and Print Studio will display the exact dimension.

5 Step 13: Most all models are built with a good base in mind but the Lay Flat command allows you to select from any flat surface of an object and specify it as the base. Clicking on one of the blue highlighted surfaces automatically aligns that suface to the build plate. Step 14: You can print multiple copies of an object (as many as the build plate will allow). To do this, select Edit in the menu bar and then select Duplicate. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Command + D. Step 15: There are times when objects need to be repaired before they will print properly. Print Studio will alert you and allow you to automatically fix these areas. Once the geometry has been corrected it will display in blue. Step 16: There are times when certain models will not have a flat base. Print Studio can automatically build supports to your model. Once added, you can select individual supports and delete them as you see fit.

6 Step 17: When you are finally ready to print your model, click the Export button. Print Studio will generate a.g3drem print-ready model file that you can save to your desktop for printing at a later time. Step 18: You can also print directly to your Idea Builder from Print Studio by clicking the printer icon in the upper left of the screen. Step 19: This will bring up options for you to connect to your Idea Builder and print directly. You can also elect to send your models to a service bureau to be printed elsewhere. Step 20: There are multiple ways to send your design to the Idea Builder, depending on which printer model you have. The following page describes these methods.

7 Idea Builder 3D20: You can print from a SD card or directly from Print Studio by connecting your printer to your computer via the included USB cable. Idea Builder 3D40: You can print from a USB stick or directly from Print Studio by connecting your printer to your computer via the included USB cable. You can also send files to print from the Dremel 3D App or from over Wi-Fi connection. Download the Dremel 3D App (available for ios or Android) from the Apple App Store or from Google Play.
