1 Objective of this document This document is a deliverable of the MPAT project, supported by the European Commission through its Horizon 2020 research funding programme. It has been prepared in the framework of project work package 7 (WP7: Exploitation and Dissemination ) and presents the Initial Plan for the communication of results of the MPAT project. It describes the process, involving all MPAT partners, that has allowed, within the 12 first months of the project (Dec 2015 Dec 2016) to conceptualize, discuss, agree, develop and finalize all dissemination and communication tools which were intended to create public awareness outside of the project. This includes the following promotion materials: Project website Twitter account Brochure and flyers Posters The first activities regarding communication outside of the project were initiated in the Kick-Off meeting which was held in Berlin at the premises of Fraunhofer FOKUS. The imperatives deviated from the DoW were analysed and checked for its feasibility. To clearly separate the actions within the tasks, it was decided that T7.1 Communication deals with the public awareness outside of the project, while T7.2 Dissemination focuses on the scientific awareness inside the professional community. page 1

2 Corporate Identity After the organizational issues were clarified, the partners decided on a dedicated MPAT logo as a figurehead for the project amongst different graphical proposals which was presented on the Kick-Off meeting by LeadIn: Figure 1: Logo proposals page 2

The design of the logo should clearly express the extensibility, the multi-application support and its ease of use within the envisioned MPAT tool. As a final design, the following logo was chosen (variant 5.2): Figure 2: Final MPAT logo Derived from the voted logo, a colour palette was then established: Figure 3: MPAT colour palette As well as a presentation template to provide a consistent and appealing slide-set to the project partners: Figure 4: MPAT PowerPoint template Together, these tools are the corporate identity of every public and scientific appearance in MPAT matters. page 3

3 Workshop A workshop was organized to demonstrate MPAT to potential users. First of all, a list of potential users was collected by all partners gathering their contacts in a central list. Users were also invited who have already been in contact with MPAT during the development phase, e. g. in the testing phase. We also included contacts made at fairs and other industry events. All contacts that have accumulated over the years in the IRT at the HbbTV intensive seminars and HbbTV interoperability workshops were also invited. More than 200 invitations were sent. The workshop was also advertised on the MPAT homepage. In total, 23 participants have registered for the workshop. Among these were also participants who have become aware of MPAT via the MPAT github account. Of the registrations, 22 users actually took part in the workshop. The workshop took place at the IRT. Ten televisions were provided and provided with corresponding signals so that the participants could immediately use their self-created HbbTV apps on these devices. An agenda for the day and all presentations are available on the MPAT website.(workshop.mpat.eu) Among the participants were representatives of public broadcasters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There were also smaller regional stations and private stations. Software developers who develop HbbTV applications for TV stations also participated. Figure 5: MPAT Workshop at IRT page 4

4 HbbTV Symposium The primary driving force behind the HbbTV standard is the HbbTV Association, which represents all major stakeholders, including broadcasters, device manufacturers, media companies and application providers. As a dissemination and communication opportunity towards industry partners, the HbbTV Symposium, organized annually by the HbbTV Association, is the best available event. MPAT was present in the main conference track of the event with, initially, two presentations about the commercial aspects of MPAT by Simona Tonoli and the editor use of MPAT bu Miggi Zwicklbauer, which were than combined into a single, shared, presentation titled How to create HbbTV Apps without Programming One Line of Code. The HbbTV Symposium was co-located with an exhibition organized by the HD Forum Italia, in which Mediaset had an exhibition booth and was presenting MPAT based applications, which had recently been announced in the press and amplified the presence of MPAT at the event. In addition to presenting and exhibiting at the event, MPAT also entered the first HbbTV Awards with various HbbTV applications. The awards jury consisted of eight industry representatives, including judges from the EBU, RAI, Eutelsat and NAGRA. The winner in the Best use of HbbTV for broadcast enhancement category was the Band Camp Berlin application. Winning the award further increased the visibility of MPAT in the HbbTV community. 11 5 Project Website As the first deliverable (D7.1) was to build an informative website about the goals, circumstances and activities in the project, an appropriate domain name had to be found. After realizing that the favoured mpat.eu was already taken by someone else, we finally managed to get hold of the domain after it was abandoned right on time during the first month of the project. Furthermore, the consortium determined that the realization with the help of an authoring tool like WordPress would be appropriate for a project like MPAT, which tries to build a modular platform on top of a content-management-system. The site was built using a WordPress template and the Corporate Identity was integrated in that design. The website is hosted and maintained by IRT. The general structure of the website includes the following areas: Overview (summary of the project) Workshop (added in preparation of the December 2017 MPAT workshop) Features (basic description of features) News & Events (public and scientific events and other relevant up-to-date news) Media & Publications (flyers, posters and deliverables) Partners (short description of the partners) Contact (contact , postal address of coordinator) Figure 7: 5 MPAT landing page page 6

Figure 8: Project overview section The website inherits a link to the Twitter account of the MPAT project on the side-bar of every page, except the landing page, as well as an overview of the recent posts sorted by months. The website is updated on a regular basis, at least every month a different partner contributes with an article for the News & Events section. Furthermore, the deliverable documents are published on the website as soon as they are submitted to the EU commission. page 7

5.1 Re-design of the MPAT website After the idea of MPAT became more concrete and the software was closer to a presentable system, the page was redesigned in late July of The goal was to address the customer more directly with currently available features and an overview of the system. Figure 9: Website Re-design page 8

First screenshots of the editor UI were presented under the features section which was added in the re-design phase. Moreover, it explains the functionality and the concept behind MPAT. Figure 10: MPAT Feature on Website page 9

In order to track user statistics, the website is monitored using Google analytics: Figure 11: Usage statistics Figure 12: Visitor distribution heatmap page 10

Figure 13: Visitor distribution page 11

6 Github The entire code developed by MPAT has been published on Github and will be maintained there. The public repository can be accessed via code.mpat.eu as well as directly via github.com/mpat-eu The Github issue tracker is used to track bugs or manage feature requests. Because the structure of MPAT is very modular, the github site is also strongly subdivided. The core, the MPAT-Plugin, all MPAT-Plugins, as well as the MPAT-Manual are located in separate repositories and for this reason all have their own issue Tracker. 6.1 Subsection On Github there is an additional repository with example applications for various purposes. Basically, all Demo Applications can be imported into MPAT and edited in this way. Up to now the following example applications exists: Demo-App This app is also as running version available on demo.mpat.eu Tutorial-App This is the first Tutorial-App for the MPAT workshop at IRT ( ). At the moment it is only available in German, as the workshop was conducted in German. An English tutorial will be published soon Show-Case App This Application is a kind of MPAT-App-Gallery and contains short descriptions and links to currently available Apps that are created by using MPAT Figure 14: Github Account page 12

7 Other Web Site Presences The following illustrations show a selection of the public communication via several partners websites and blogs. Figure 15: MPAT ad page on LeadIn website page 13

8 Twitter The MPAT consortium decided to take part in social media activities and therefore created a Twitter account to raise public awareness ( Here, current affairs relating to MPAT and the HbbTV technology are presented to its followers. This creates awareness especially in the HbbTV community, as the concerned people deal with a narrowed field of technical expertise and therefore the community is networked closely, which makes the impact much stronger. Currently it has 83 followers, mainly from the HbbTV community. Figure 19: MPAT Twitter Account page 16

9 Flyer It was decided to create a handy size version of a first MPAT flyer printed on cardboard (front and back) in order to communicate a higher-grade look-and-feel than average paper-based flyers. 9.1 First Flyer generation Figure 20: First MPAT flyer Approximately 500 flyers were printed and distributed during the first 12 months of the project. page 17

9.2 Second Flyer Generation Figure 21: Second MPAT flyer page 18

10 Posters Shortly after the project started, a poster was created for conference display and other public uses. It was meant to illustrate and describe an outline of the main properties of MPAT as a project and create interest in the upcoming product First Poster Generation Figure 22: MPAT poster (1 st generation 1 st version) page 19

To match the corporate identity of MPAT, the poster was later updated and a new version was created. Figure 23: MPAT poster (1 st generation 2 nd version) page 20

10.2 Second Poster Generation In the second year of the project, the poster was significantly updated. While the initial poster was primarily designed to inform the public about the MPAT project and its aims, it could, at that time, only present concepts and show planned features. As the MPAT editor became more mature and the first applications, built with MPAT, became available, the purpose of the poster became more to advertise MPAT the product than MPAT the project. The poster featured a number of screenshots from the various application, showing the versatility and practical usability of MPAT in real broadcasts. It also presented new features, not originally envisaged at the start of the project, like the different navigation models. Figure 24: MPAT Poster (2 nd generation 1 nd version) page 21

11 Outlook and Plan The website and the Twitter account were be maintained throughout the duration of the project, where all news regarding MPAT were disseminated through these channels. All partners involved in the active development have unlimited access to the Github account and will at least be able to continue to control the MPAT code base and fix bugs. The MPAT website provides a contact address where all technical partners can be reached. The partners who want to offer MPAT in the future have presented themselves in this role at the workshop with their product portfolios. Several partners have made contacts, especially to participants of the workshop, in order to obtain a commercial benefit from MPAT after the end of the project. The pilot "Täter Opfer Polizei" will continue to be operated beyond the duration of the project. The MPAT test server, which was set up for the workshop and is also available to the participants after the workshop, will also continue to be operated. It is possible to get an MPAT demo account via the mail address mpat@irt.de. The apps created with these accounts can be tested on any TV that is able to receive the German public TV channel "Bayrischer Rundfunk". After the workshop we were asked several times to let this demo server run for several months. This server will remain in operation after the end of the project. The website, Twitter, demo server and registration for demo-accounts will remain operational for at least another year. page 22

12 Conclusion The efforts in task 7.1 included the creation of the presented materials and are meant to be targeted at a wider audience than presented in task 7.2. Therefore, it tries to explain the project scope in a much less detailed but more comprehensive way. The public dissemination activities during the final 13 months included the involvement of all project partners and were matched during the consortium meetings, were the steps which were taken were planned. page 23
