1 Exploring Computer Science Web Final - Website Objective: Create a website using rollover menus. You will be graded on the following: Is your CSS in a separate file from your HTML? Are your colors and fonts appropriate? Do you use padding and borders to frame images? Do you float text around framed images? Do you give Image courtesy of credit for all images? Do you have appropriate margins and padding? Are all of your file names (images included) in lowercase with no spaces? Do all of your links hover? Do you have an interesting banner at the top of each page? Do you have a unique, usable, menu with the following 4 items? Item Position Item Text Name of File 1 About Me index.html 2 My Future future.html 3 My Schedule schedule.html 4 My Favorite Websites favorites.html You may use code from your previous projects to complete this website, but this website must look like the pages belong together. You should reuse HTML code, but create new CSS code. If you copy code from a previous assignment, do not copy the h1 elements. 1. In your Exploring Computer Science folder, create a folder titled first_last_web_final. Open your template.html file with Notepad++ and save it in your first_last_web_final folder as index.html. It should not be named template.html anymore! 2. Create a new text document. Rename it final.css. This will be used for your project CSS. 3. Edit the index.html file. Add the appropriate HTML so that this file contains the following: a. The title of your page is First Last Web Final b. Inside the <head> section, remove the entire <style> element and replace it with this code: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="final.css" /> c. Inside the <body> element, create a <div> element with an id of wrapper. d. Inside the wrapper <div> section create 3 <div> elements, one for your banner/header, one for your menu, and one for your page content. Create unique ids for these 3 <div> elements. (#banner, #menu, and #content are always good choices.) e. Inside the <div> element for your banner, create your banner. The text on the banner should be your name in the form First Last. The banner must have at least one image. f. Now, inside the <div> element for your menu, create your menu list. Make sure to use the Item Text and Name of File as it appears in the above table. Make sure to add id="cp" to the menu item for index.html. 4. Now edit the final.css file. Make sure that you specify which div (#wrapper, #banner, #menu or #content) the CSS is for. a. Pick a width for the wrapper <div>. Make sure the wrapper <div> is centered in the browser window. Make sure you have a background image for the page.

2 b. Make the banner look the way you want. Change up the colors and font. c. Make the menu look the way you want with colors that match your background image. Don t forget to add something different for hovering. d. Last, you will add the CSS that does something different for the current page so that the user knows what page is being looked at. Follow the playground examples. 5. Do not do this step until you are satisfied with how the index.html file looks! Once you are finished with index.html, use the code to create 3 more files: future.html, schedule.html and favorites.html. You will need to make one change in each file: a. Move the id="cp" you placed on the <a> tag with href="index.html" to the correct <a> tag. 6. Test your navigation to make sure it does what you want and fix any bugs. The banner must look the same and be the exact same height on all pages! The menus must hover, and the current page must be highlighted on all pages! 7. Do not do this step until your navigation is correct! You will now add appropriate content to each page. This will go in the content <div> element. Appropriate credit must be given for all images! a. index.html: Write a minimum of 4 paragraphs about yourself. This page must have at least 2 framed pictures. Personal images of family and friends are perfect for this page. The text must float around the images. What are some interesting facts about you? This is your page, so make it good. (You may use the paragraphs from your web_1 assignment but you ll need to add pictures.) b. future.html: Write a minimum of 4 paragraphs about your future. Do you want to go to college? If so, where? If not, why not? What careers are you considering? This page must have at least 2 framed pictures that show something about your future. Pictures of colleges and careers are appropriate. Personal pictures are also appropriate. The text must float around the images. (You may use the paragraphs and pictures from your web_5 assignment.) c. schedule.html: This page is to have a table with your current class schedule. You are also to write paragraphs describing what you are learning in each of your classes. (You may use the table from your web_6 assignment, but you ll need to add additional paragraphs.) The columns in the table should be Period, Subject, Room & Teacher. The table should not have a caption. The teacher s name must be a link to their WPHS web page. Under the table you are to write one paragraph about each of your classes explaining what you are learning in that class. This means you will have 8 paragraphs. d. favorites.html: This page must have a list of your 12 favorite websites. It also must have 1 framed picture of something that you might find on one of your favorite websites. The list of websites must be in uppercase roman numerals. (You may add the list from your web_4 assignment but you ll need to add a picture.) 8. Make sure your colors coordinate and do not clash. 9. Make sure your fonts are appropriate. 10. Make sure all links hover. 11. Validate the HTML in all 4 files. (You will use the HTML validator ONLY, not the CSS validator.) 12. Validate the final.css file. (You will use the CSS validator ONLY, not the HTML validator.) 13. Zip your first_last_web_final folder and turn it in in the usual manner. 14. If instructed by the teacher, have 2 students in the class grade your project before turning it in.
