2 Logging in 1. In the address line of Internet Explorer, enter the following URL: Or From the RPS Home page, select Staff Inside RPS Teacher Web. 2. You should see a screen similar to figure 1. Enter your given name and password. Username: Password: Be sure that your password is at least 6 alphanumeric characters for security!! 3. Press the Log In button. Figure 1 Changing the Password: 1. From the Navigation menu, select Setup. 2. Scroll to find the Personal Data box. Enter your full name, address, new password. 3. Click Save Configuration. Click Setup to change the password. Don t forget to save! - 2 -
3 BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE WEBPAGE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE SAVING ICONS: (Icons at the top of the page!) Your changes will always go LIVE as soon as you select a SAVE icon unless the page is hidden! SAVE SAVE DOCUMENT AND VIEW PAGE SAVE AND CLOSE PAGE CLOSE WITHOUT SAVING CHANGES TIPS FOR DESIGNING A PAGE Press F5 or the refresh button on your live Webpage to view changes! Use the Use the Use the Horizontal Rule Icon to add dividers on your page. Text Color Icon to select one of the preset text colors. HTML Editor Icon to view the source code and make technical changes. Change the text field to a different heading if you need to change the text size and/or text color. Heading 1 is a larger font than heading 6. To create a single space, press Shift + Enter. To format existing text, make sure that you have a double space between the text to be formatted and the text not to format. Highlight the text to format and select the formatting option. NOTES: Be sure to save your page before moving to another page, as you will lose your most recent changes. If your page is not being displayed, check that it is not hidden. To unhide, click on the folder icon, Hidden Page Select Unhide. A good image size is 150 x 150 pixels. To copy and paste text from an existing document, use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste. To add a new page, click the folder icon next to your name and select New. Click the folder icon to add a new page! - 3 -
4 Working with Existing Pages PAGE: A group of related records displayed on the same page. New pages are displayed as folders in the file tree. RECORD: A specific set of text on a page. Records can be shut on and off. Page Record Editing an Existing Page Step 1: Click on Page in the File tree. Step 2: Click on the name of the page you want to edit from the File tree. Step 3: Click on the words in the editor or the edit pencil. Click on the text to get to the editor Do not click this button! Adding a unique record to a page Records will be added below the existing text of a page. Step 1: From the Page view, select the New Record icon. Step 2: Select the Page Content type as either Regular Text Element or Text with Image. Step 3: Create a header and text in the editor. Click the New Record Icon - 4 -
5 Editing Area in Typo In the newest version of Typo 3 (4.2.5) a few changes have been made to the normal record editing screen. In previous versions, all options were displayed on the same page. In 4.2.5, this is split up among several tabs. After selecting a record to edit, to change the type of an existing record, click the General tab. To edit the text that is displayed within a record, click the Text tab
6 To set the dates for a record to appear and disappear, select the Access tab. If the record is a Text w/image or Image record, you will also see a Media tab to add pictures. All the functions under each tab work the same way they did in previous versions, they are just organized a little differently. Deleting a page or record Step 1: Select the main page from the File tree. Step 2: Click the trash can icon of the page or record. Click the trash can to delete! - 6 -
7 Adding a hyperlink to a document or webpage NOTE: Before linking to a document be sure that the original document has been converted to a PDF file (see page 9). Step 1: Highlight the text that you want to hyperlink. 1. Highlight text Step 2: Click on the Insert Web Icon 2. Click on Insert Web Link Step 3: Linking to a website Select the External URL tab.enter the complete address of the website. Click Set Link! Linking to a file Select the File tab. From the Folder tree, select Teacher_Files 3. Click your here to name. add (If you do not see this path, click on the plus(+) sign next to your building link name). to an existing 3. 8 Step 4: Upload the file by selecting BROWSE and finding the location of the saved file. Step 5: Click the Upload File button. Always double check this path to make sure that it is where you want your file located. 4. Browse to the location of saved file 5.Click on Upload files 6. Click on the file that you want to upload! Step 6: Once the file is uploaded, scroll down the filelist and click the file you want to upload
9 CONVERTING FILES TO PDF 1. Minimize your webpage. 2. Open the original document that you want converted to a PDF. 3. From the File menu select Print. 4. From the Printer Options, select CutePDF Writer. 5. Click OK 6. In the Save As window, find the location in which you want to save the file. (Preferably, the WEB PDF folder on your H drive). 7. Edit the filename as this is the name that will be seen as a URL on your webpage. Be sure to shorten the file name and use NO spaces! 8. Click SAVE! 9. Open your webpage and follow the for uploading a document (see page 7) After a while your file list might get cluttered up with old files and pictures that you no longer need or use. How do you delete old files? Click the icon just in front of the name of the file that you want to delete. A menu will appear. Choose delete. The computer will ask you if you are sure you want to delete the file. Click OK. What is the largest file that can be uploaded? Files must be less than 8 mb to be uploaded to the web server
10 Inserting photos Step 1: Change the type to Images Only or Text with Image. 1. Change the Type to Text w/image. 2. From the Images section of the page, select the Browse button. 3. Find your name in the folder tree. 4. Browse to the image you want uploaded. 5. Click Upload Files. 6. From your file tree list, select the photo that you just uploaded. 7. Set the Position to the desired choice. 8. Set the Width in pixels. 9. Enter a caption that will appear below the picture. NO picture larger than 1 mb can be uploaded! Step 5: Click Upload Step 7: Set the position! Step 2: Browse! Step 8: Set the width between 125 and 225!! Step 4: Browse to where the image is saved! Step 3: Find your name in the folder When you are finished working, be sure to LOGOUT! Logout when you are finished!
