Budget The amount of money the client is willing to spend Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) Program language that separates layout and design features (color scheme, fonts, menu styles, etc.) from the actual content of the website; easiest way to make site-wide design changes; CSS files combine with HTML file to create a complete website; common format of downloadable templates found on the Web Child Page A page that is conceptually subordinate or below another Class Style Allows you to set a style to multiple element or tags in a document Cloud Storage Technology that allows a working document or project to be stored electronically and accessed by different parties Code View Can view and edit the source code for the current document Compatibility Refers to the ability of a web application or HTML code to work effectively with all browser platforms Content All of the information text, images, and other multimedia that are contained within the pages of a website Copyright The exclusive legal right to reproduce, publish, sell or distribute the expression of an intellectual property (literature, design, audio, video, etc.) Creative Commons Free, easy-to-use copyright licenses provide a simple, standardized way to give the public permission to share and use your creative work on conditions of your choice Debug The methodical process of finding and reducing the number of errors in a computer program making it behave as expected Deliverables Completed products requested by client (design, website, app, video, etc.) Design Panel Dreamweaver lets you visually create and edit web pages in design view without worrying about the underlying source code Div Tag An HTML tag that defines logical divisions within the content of a web page Editable Region Content users can edit in a document based on that template, enable template authors to control which page elements template users can edit
2 External Style Sheets The most commonly used way to apply a style sheet where all of the styles and rules are contained in one central, separate text file Fair Use A legal allowance of using a copyrighted material without permission from the owner, provided the circumstances are reasonable and do not make the material less profitable Feedback Verbal or written responses containing information about a client s reaction to a designer s performance of a task Files Panel Enables you to view files and folders, whether they are associated with a Dreamweaver site or not, perform standard file maintenance operations, such as opening and moving files Flowchart A graphic organizer that creates a visual representation of the components, sequences, and inter-relationships of a proposed project Graphical User Interface Buttons and image maps that allow users to interact with the site and access information quickly Graphics Optimization Designing and exporting graphics with the specific purpose of using it on a website; allows for quicker loading times Hexadecimal HTML colors are defined using a hexadecimal notation for the combination of red, green, and blue color values (RGB), HEX values are specified as 3 pairs of two-digit numbers, starting with a # sign Hotspot Specify a particular area as a link; can be drawn over a block of space, words, or an image HTML Attributes Customize a tag and are defined within the opening tag HTML Tags The hidden keywords within a web page that define how the browser must format and display the content Hyperlinks Clickable connections that link text or images to other pages of the website, out to external websites, or to files posted on a website Hypertext Markup Language(HTML) Program language that creates basic framework for all web pages; written using tags that a web browser uses to interpret the code and generate the content on the webpage; tags denote structured elements like headings, paragraphs, lists, etc. ID Style Allows the user to specify their own selectors called "id" and "class Image Map A single graphic that is divided into sections and linked to different locations Insert Panel Contains buttons for creating and inserting objects such as tables and images Intellectual Property Original creations of the mind that can be protected by law; literary and artistic works, designs, symbols, images, names, etc. Internal Style Sheets A CSS document embedded into the HTML file, when using internal CSS you must add a new tag, <style>, inside the <head> tag Keywords User-defined words or phrases that help a search engine s algorithms select a group of words that can be searched to find your website Link Target The target attribute specifies a window or a frame where the linked document is loaded Live View An interactive preview that accurately renders HTML5 projects and updates in real time to show your changes as you make them in Dreamweaver.
3 Mailto Link Allows users clicking a link in a website to send an without first having to copy the destination address and open an client Meta Tags Contain elements that describe the information on the page, which is used by search browsers Mobile Device Compatibility Checking or validating that your website behaves as expected across the combination of mobile devices and browsers that your customers will be using. Navigation The system that a visitor can use to move around a website (global navigation, breadcrumb trails, related links, pagination (previous/next page), footer navigation, etc.) and the visual manifestation of such systems (hyperlinked text, tabs, buttons, etc.) Page Layout A way of organizing information on a web page; ensures the information on a page can be easily located Page Ranking A determination of how easy it is to find a website through search engines; the higher the ranking, the more traffic the website will have Parent Page The page that contains the link to the selected object Pathname A statement of the location of a file or other item in a hierarchy of directories Plugin A software component that adds a specific feature or function to a webpage, well-known browser plug-ins include the Adobe Flash Player, QuickTime Player, and Java plug-in Preview in Browser Dreamweaver feature that allows you to preview your web pages in the browser of your choice. Project Management The application of processes, methods, knowledge, skills and experience to achieve the project objectives Project Plan Helps move a project successfully to completion, includes deciding project scope, client criteria, project deliverables, and distribution of responsibilities Project Scope Identifying audience, goals, and objectives Proofreading The careful reading of a publication to detect and correct production errors of text or art Properties Panel Lets you examine and edit the most common properties for the currently selected page element, such as text or an inserted object Redesign Uses the provided feedback to make changes to the original project with the ultimate goal of meeting the client s needs, could occur several times throughout the time span of a particular project Relative Div Tag Used with other positioning attributes will move from where it would NORMALLY be Relative Link Starts from the home page or root folder of the website and creates a path to the destination of the link Remote Folder Stores your files for testing, production, collaboration, and is located on the same computer as the web server.
4 Research View a collection of similar projects for ideas and inspiration, research possible copyright or trademark issues associated with the nature of the project, find assets (pictures, audio, video, etc.) needed to create the project Rollover Feature that indicates interactivity to the user; normally causes a component of a web page to visually change when the user s cursor hovers over it Root Folder A central location of storage for every file involved in designing a website; allows the website to be portable from computer to computer. Schedule Setting deadlines for each project phase and task Scope Creep Incremental expansion of the project scope, introducing features not originally planned Screen Reader Recites text that appears on the computer screen, as well as, non-textual information, such as button labels or image descriptions, provided during designing Search Engine Websites that organize and retrieve information located on the Internet Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Involves designing websites with the intention of helping search engines best Skin A preset package containing additional or changed graphical appearance details often used for video or audio controls Source Code Program or web page instructions in their original form Split View Can see design and code views Tables A powerful tool for presenting tabular data and for laying out text and graphics on an HTML page Tags Could be page titles, paragraph titles, image tags, or even meta tags that are hidden in the code of a website; help search engines find and organize the information on a website Template A special type of document that you use to design a fixed page layout; you can then create documents based on the template that inherit its page layout Testing Server The folder where Dreamweaver processes dynamic pages. Text Editor - Simple text editing program used to write or edit web design code; does not show a visual component Trademark A mark (logo, symbol, word, phrase, etc.) legally registered or established by a company to represent a service or product; cannot be used without the permission of the owner Usability Good web usability involves effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction of the website being used. Visual Editor - Design software that manipulates components of the web page without the user writing or editing code Web Crawlers Computer programs that crawl through the pages of a website to find tags, keywords, and other information Web Form An interactive feature that allows a user to submit information Web-safe Colors Consist of 216 colors that display solid, non-dithered, and consistent on any computer monitor, or web browser, capable of displaying at least 8-bit color (256 colors)
