Purpose: This guide includes important terminology and the steps needed to successfully create a Manual Test in Schoolnet. Term/Concept Description Page(s) Create a Test Manually Creating a test manually allows the user to create an assessment by entering various item types and item content. Users may also choose to create an Answer Key Only test where Schoolnet is used as a student answer recording tool. See Initial Test Creation settings for more details. 2 Initial Test Creation Settings Users establish initial settings when creating a test. Settings include General Settings, Initial Item Settings, Test Item Settings, and Optional settings. This section guides users through those settings and field options. 9
From Teacher Portal, click Assessments. Click Create a Test. Under, click Start Now. 2
4. Fill in the fields with the appropriate information (4a.). Click Generate Test (4b.). (See section: Initial Test Creation Settings for more details) 4a. 4b. 5. Select an item type by clicking on the image of the preferred item type Click Standard Lookup to align each test item to a standard. 6. 3
7. Check the applicable standard (7a.) and click Done (7b.). 7a. 7b. 8. Select Click Here to Add Content to insert the item s question stem. For this guide, a Matching item is depicted. 9. A formatting box will open. Enter content (9a.) and then click Save (9b.). 9a. 9b. 10. Select Click Here to Add Content to insert item content for each answer choice. 4
1 A formatting box will open. Enter content (11a.) and then click Save (11b.). You must enter content for all answer choices. 11a. 11b. 1 Designate the correct answer by adding a point value and by marking the check box. Steps to Complete must be finished in order to complete and schedule the test. 1 Continue to create/edit each test item by clicking on the item number from the Test Items bar. 1 To add an item, click Add Item from the Test Items bar. 5
14. Click Return to Test Detail to save work and make any necessary revisions. 14. It is strongly advised to Preview Online Test once all items have been added, edited, or removed. This will allow the user to see the test as the student. 15. Once all test items have been created and reviewed, all the steps are completed, and the user is satisfied with the test, click Ready to Schedule Click OK
To store newly created items to the item bank, click Add All Items to Item Central at the bottom of the Test Detail Page. 17. Click Schedule Customize the schedule for the test. 18. For more information on scheduling a test and online test options, refer to the Adjust Test Schedule and Test Settings guide. 7
19. Assign the test to the appropriate students by selecting either Accept Quick Assignment or Edit Assignment Once the test has been assigned, click Save. For more information on assigning a test, refer to the Assign a Test guide
Initial Test Creation Settings General Settings 4. Name of the assessment that can be easily recognized by the user and students. Choose the subject area. This should correspond to the content a user teaches. Choose the grade level range Input an initial number of items test will contain. Users can add more items in test creation. Users also have the ability to identify all items as Multiple Choice Select the Test Category. Most users will create assessments for My Classroom only. Other users may have the ability to create a School Level assessment or even a District Level assessment. Users can decide if students unanswered questions are included in scores as 0 or excluded from their scores. Score type can be selected to give a percent correct (Total Score), just a total score point value (Raw Score), or proficiency band scoring (Proficiency Score). The Preferred Standards Document selected will default the standards lists to the standards within that document. Users may select other standards, but the default will be according to the standards document Answer Key Only is a feature where the test being created will only serve as test response entries. This is typically selected when teachers use a paper copy of the test content and want students to enter responses either on clickers or the computer. With assessment notes, teachers and administrators can leave comments on the effectiveness of an assessment. This option serves as a reflection area on the assessment delivered. 9
Initial Test Creation Settings Initial Item Settings When students take an online test, settings can be adjusted for all items on the test or the default for each item can be kept. Users can choose to adjust the multiple choice layout settings for all items or keep the default layout for each item. Tools and manipulatives displayed for students taking an online test can be adjusted for the entire test or the default can be kept for each item. All settings selected can also be customized for individual items while creating the test. 4. Users can allow students to comment on each item or at the end of the test. This allows for further student feedback. Teachers can leave comments on the answer sheets. An option can be enabled for student self-assessment. When students reviewing test results, users can choose to hide item content if they want to reuse content for other assessments
Initial Test Creation Settings Optional Settings Users can add a description about the test. 11
