Start Dashboards and import the Excel model Dashboards_BasicFunctions.xls from the My Documents folder on the local hard drive of the training system. a) Open Dashboard Design under Start > Programs > Dashboard Design > Dashboard Design. b) In the File Menu choose New > New with Spreadsheet. d) Navigate to My Documents and select BOUG Dashboards.xls. 2. Add a Query and filter the query. a) In the Query Browser panel, click Add Query. b) Log into BusinessObjects Enterprise. c) Use the folder structure to navigate to the desired Universe. d) Select the Universe named Warehouse.unx. e) From the Country folder, drag Country to the Result Objects pane. f) From the Sales Revenue folder, drag the Quantity measure to the Result Objects pane. g) From the Sales Revenue folder, drag the Margin measure to the Result Objects pane. h) From the Country folder, drag Region to the Filters pane. i) From the Query Condition drop down menu, select In list. j) From the drop down list beside In list, select Prompt. k) Accept the default Prompt Properties. l) In the Add Query window, click Next. m) In the Answer Prompts window, select the North America member from the left hand pane. n) Click Add ( > ). o) Click OK. p) Click Run. q) Verify that the desired data is present. r) Click Next. s) Select Refresh Before Components Are Loaded. t) Click OK. 3. Configure the Gross Sales from the query to insert in cells C4 through C13 (yellow shaded area). a) In the Query Browser panel, click Gross Sales. b) Click the binding button next to Insert in. c) Select cells C4-C13. d) Click OK from the binding pop-up.

Add a Column Chart to the canvas and configure it to read the data from cells D4 through D13. a) From the Component browser, expand the Charts folder. b) Drag the Column Chart icon from the Component browser and drop it on the Canvas. c) In the Data section of the General property sheet, select By Series. d) Click + to add a new series. e) Name the series Gross Sales. f) Click on the Values(X) cell selector drop down button. g) Select Spreadsheet. h) Select the range D4 through D13. i) Click OK. j) Type "Gross Sales per Region" for the Title. 5. Use the Query data for Country for the X Axis labels. a) Click on the Category Labels(X) cell selector drop down button. b) Select Query Data. c) In the Result Objects pane of the Select from Query window, select Country. d) Click OK. 6. Drag the Query Prompt to the canvas to create the Selector and configure it to refresh when Selection changes. Note: The Query Prompt Selector automatically adapts to the type of prompt that you created in the universe query if you set it as source prompt. a) Open the Universe Connectivity category in the components area and drag the Query Prompt Selector component onto the canvas. b) Change the General properties of the selector to Refresh when Select Changes. c) Insert the Region value(s) selected into cell?? d) Select the column chart on the canvas. e) On the General properties sheet, bind the subtitle of the column chart to cell??? in order to display the Region(s) selected when interacting with the dashboard. 7. Configure the chart's behavior to Ignore Blank cells in Values. a) In the Ignore Blank Cells section of the Behavior property sheet, select In Values. 8. Add a Dial to the canvas and configure it to read the Growth Rate in F3. a) In the Component Browser, expand Single Value. b) Drag a Dial icon to the canvas. This dial will represent the Growth Rate. c) In the General Property sheet, click the Titles cell selector button. d) Click cell F2. e) Click OK. f) In General Property sheet, click the Data cell selector button. g) Click cell F3. h) Click OK. i) In the Scale section of the General Property Sheet, select Manual. j) For Maximum Limit, enter 1.

5 Page 5 of 6 9. Set the Behavior for the dial to move in increments of.01 (1%) a) Select the dial. b) On the Behavior sheet, the Needle Movement section, enter.01 in the Increment field. 10. Save the Dashboard Design file. a) Select File > Save. b) Name the file DB Session X, where X indicates the session number. 11. Create a temporary flash file to test the dashboard's interactivity a) Select File > Preview 12. Interact with the.swf file a) Select a particular Region or multiple Regions. Note how the column chart displays Gross Revenue data for the countries of those regions. b) Move the dial to increase or decrease the Growth Rate. Note how the height of the columns changes. Good Dashboard Design Principals 13. Configure the dial to track Radial so that the dial turns. a) Select File > Preview to close the temporary flash file and return to the Dashboard Design document. b) Select the dial on the canvas. c) On the Behavior property sheet, change the Mouse Tracking option to Radial. 14. Make the Y axis on the column chart static so that the Y axis values do not adjust depending on the data in the chart. a) Select the column chart. b) On the Behavior property sheet, the Scale tab, change the Scale to. c) Also change the Divisions to Number of Divisions and enter the number Preview these changes. Note how much more intuitive the dashboard functions. 16. Get out of Preview and back to the Dashboard Design document. 17. Change the Theme to Admiral. a) Select Format > Theme > Admiral. Note that the changes are immediately visible. b) Change the canvas color to Gradient and select the second color as Background Color 2.

6 Page 6 of Preview one final time. 19. Please change the Theme back to Nova for the next session but do NOT exit the application. a) Select Format > Theme > Nova. Thank you for your participation!
