69 Mobile Redirect** You may choose to apply a Mobile Redirect to your website so that your website visitors on a mobile device see a mobile-optimized website. If you have a mobile website that you would like your Vetstreet Web Builder to redirect to on a mobile device, you can provide your mobile URL to your Vetstreet Account Manager. Vetstreet will then apply the Mobile Redirect to the backend of the Web Builder. **Vetstreet does not offer support for use of any third-party product. Vetstreet does not host mobile sites at this time. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) What is Search Engine Optimization? Search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo use different algorithms, or sets of rules, to determine a website's relevance in search results. Search engines employ crawlers to record and analyze EVERY word that you post, and measure your website s content to match particular keywords or key phrases people are searching for. Many additional items are calculated in this equation, but the most important component is the quality and uniqueness of the content you choose to post on your website pages. Content is King Other factors include: How long your website has been online. How often you refresh or update your content. How many people are visiting and engaging your website. How many people are actively using search engines to find your website, a.k.a. trending. Your geographic market conditions. Having a personally registered domain name. (Please note: Vetstreet does not register personal domain names on behalf of practices.) Removal of defunct and obsolete website pages that may be online and reflect your practice. How to Optimize Your Web Builder Website Content Pages Please take some time to customize any and all content areas. The Web Builder editor allows you the opportunity to optimize items like your Welcome Message, Service Page descriptions, Staff member biographies, etc. Your goal should be to minimize the presence of stock or duplicate content, as well as content that you at the practice did not author. Consider uploading personal images as well. Do Not repeat the same Keywords or Key Phrases in excess of 2-3 times per page. Try to include Keywords and Key Phrases in a fashion that avoid overuse. Meta Tags Meta Tags are utilized by search engines to help categorize your website pages and match them to prospective searches. (See Fig.2) Please take some time to customize any and all SEO Data (Meta Tags) found on each page in your Web Builder editor s Site Info tab. (See Fig. 1). This applies to all Blog Pages that you create as well. Contact your Account Manager at (888) or support@vetstreet.com with questions. Page 69

70 When optimizing your Meta Tags it is important to be direct and to the point. Look to outline your identity, geographic location and core services using a variety of terms and phrases amongst all of your pages. Do Not carbon copy content from one page to another. Do not apply the same Meta Title to all your website pages. Also avoid copying Meta Descriptions straight from your content pages. Remember unique content is optimal. As a general suggestion, the SEO Data- Keywords field plays a minimal role in comparison to the actual words that you post on your website pages. The SEO Data- Keywords field should complement your content pages, not drive them. Title: +/- 100 characters are recommended Description: +/- 150 characters Keywords: +/- 250 characters Fig. 1 Title Field Description pulled from Web Builder SEO Data above. Fig. 2 Contact your Account Manager at (888) or support@vetstreet.com with questions. Page 70

71 Hyperlink Exchanges Hyperlinks that bring visitors to your Web Builder website from other reputable 3 rd party websites are strategically important and can greatly increase your online visibility. Local pet rescue groups, groomers, pet trainer and pet store websites, news outlets and online articles are good examples. If applicable, reach out to these organizations and request to have a link to your website added on their pages. Hyperlinks and Anchor Text Creating hyperlinks which incorporate actual keywords or phrases can be beneficial. The use of click here and read more is adequate, but optimizing your anchor text to incorporate actual keywords or phrases something you can take advantage of. Examples: Click here to read more about our pet care plans. Sign your pet up for an animal wellness program... Read more Optimized Examples: Read more about our new pet care plans, and how they save you money and help you provide for your pet. Find out how animal wellness programs can benefit your pet and your wallet today! Alternate Text (Alt Text) for Images Alternate Text allows you to describe your images in text form. This content is crawled by search engines and can be useful if the visitor of your website is using a screen reader or has images disabled. If you insert text into the Alternate Text field when uploading an image, the Alternate Text will be applied when you place the image in the Web Builder. Generally Alternate Text should describe the image and not duplicate content that is already on your page. The Alt Text should be descriptive but to the point, and relay the same information as is displayed in the image. Remember you re writing the Alt Text for the visitor of the website, not the search engine. Do Not keyword stuff your Alt Text as this can lead to a poor user experience and can hurt your SEO. The Alt Text should be keyword rich and read as a sentence. Try to keep it less than 100 characters. If your image contains text, use that text in your Alt Text. Masthead Image: The Alt Text for this image should contain your practice name. If you do not apply Alt Text upon uploading this image, the Alt Text is automatically carried over from the Staff Page Business Name field. You have the option to customize or optimize this field / header if you wish. Please Do Not use the field labeled Or, use a text logo if you are using an image. 72 Additional Online Resources **Please note: The information provided by Vetstreet is for informational purposes only. Hospital/ Practice administrators should verify and determine whether the suggestions below are appropriate for your business s integrity. Possible online solicitation should be considered when providing personal information like phone numbers and addresses. Maps & Business Directories Example: Google+ *You will need to create a Google account if you do not have an existing account. If your practice is not listed on Google+ you may register your business listing with them. This will add your practice to Google Search, Maps, and Google+. Visit the website address listed above and follow the Get on Google link. You can take full advantage of your Google+ profile by adding your URL, hours, and additional information about your practice. For additional support, such as updating your information, see the Google My Business Support Page: Bing and Yahoo also provide business listings similar to Google+. Online Review Websites Online reviews play a role in how your practice is perceived online. Services such as Angie s List, Google Plus, Yelp, etc. are examples of review sites that clients may already be utilizing. Consider encouraging clients to post comments through one or multiple review outlets. Social Media Networks Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, etc. provide an online presence and forum for your clients. These network sites allow you to create a synergy between different platforms. This can be achieved by cross promotion and hyperlinking to and from your Web Builder website address (URL). Submit Your URL to Search Engines Search engines will index or crawl all websites at indeterminate frequencies. If you have a brand new website or have posted new content and wish to submit your site to be reviewed, you can Submit your URL. For Google: (You will need a Google account) For Bing: *Submitting your URL is not a necessity and it is not intended to increase your search engine rank. It is a tool to inform Google and Bing if you have a brand new website or have posted a bulk of new content. This serves as a suggestion to have your content crawled sooner rather than later.
