2 Challenge Approach Outcome Kwik Kill Pest Control s website is a primary source for acquiring new customers. Though their site maintained excellent rankings in Google, it wasn t mobile friendly. Since a large portion of their buyers used smart phones to access their site, they needed a new, easy-to-use mobile-friendly design. They also needed to take a backwards step in their already solid rankings in Google or they would lose customers. We conducted an SEO evaluation of their existing site and set up SEO keyword monitoring to gain key insights needed for a local search-focused content plan on the new site. We defined new website goals and worked with Kwik Kill to design a mobile-friendly site that would convert their flat HTML site onto a content management system (CMS), improve functionality and enhance their online presence and findability in search engines through better content. Kwik Kill s new mobile-friendly website and SEO update resulted in significant improvements in their organic search listings. After launch, Kwik Kill more than tripled the terms ranking number one in search engine results and improved the rankings of 67% of their tracked keywords overall. 3 Kwik Kill Had a Unique Dilemma The SEO for their website generally performed well, and they had page one rankings for several targeted key terms. Unfortunately, one of their local competitors had better SEO and routinely outranked them for some of those same terms. This needed to change. When it came to generating new potential customers, the website wasn t performing to their satisfaction. This was mainly due to poor user experience, too much information, a lack of clear calls to action, and it wasn t designed for the mobile-buyer. Treading Carefully The goal was to build a new site that incorporated best practices in digital marketing and web design without negatively affecting SEO. We wanted to improve their rankings, but too many changes could cause negative SEO side effects. We only wanted to fix what wasn t working. We carefully crafted a strategic plan that focused on SEO through every phase of the redesign. This included the use of redirects, correctly transferring existing content and SEO elements, creating new pages to fill content and SEO gaps, and implementing other SEO best practices that were previously missing.

4 A New Mobile-Friendly Website Kwik Kill s responsive website design allows for an optimal tablet and mobile experience. The CMS provides an easy-to-use interface for content updates. Additionally, we updated a number of tools and features that improved user experience and will satisfy Kwik Kill s needs for several years. 5 The Results: A Lovable Website and Even Better Rankings in Google Kwik Kill launched their new site in April 2014, and the results were immediately noticeable. The new site not only maintained their high organic rankings, but in many cases those rankings rose even higher. In the first month after launch, overall sessions increased by 68% year-over-year. New users rose by 78%, and bounce rates dropped by 30%. Kwik Kill even noticed a significant increase in leads initiated through the website. 57% increase in new users over peak season 37 search terms ranking number one 49% increase in sessions during peak season (April-September) 29% decrease in bounce rate over peak season 26 search terms moved from position two or three to number one
