1 CMS Pages Overview The Django CMS consists of a tree like hierarchy of pages that can be easily published, reordered, and edited. The order and depth of the page structure in the CMS directly effects the menu structure that is seen on the website. As the pages are further nested within the administration page, the further they will be nested within the menu structure. The nesting starts at the top left, and works its way down. The screenshot above will display the following menus on the website: The top menu- The side page menu-
2 Adding a Page Adding pages can be done several ways depending on your needs. The quickest way to add a new page to a website is to click on the Add page link at the top right corner. This will then take you to the Add page screen. Here you are able to fill out the Title of the page, the page slug, the language, and the template that will be used for rendering content on the page. Note Please note that throughout the Django Admin any field within an application that is emboldened is deemed a required field. Likewise, any field title that is not emboldened is an optional field.
3 Title: This section specifies the page title that will be displayed as well as what will be shown in the websites menus. Slug: Specifies what will be used in the url when referencing the page. Ex. if the slug is test-page, the url will read _ Language: The default language of the page, the only option currently is English Template: The template that will be used for the page. To learn more about templates. You can also easily add subpages from the Pages panel by clicking on the plus sign in the actions column next to the page you want do add another page to. This brings up options on where the new page will be placed upon saving. You can either add a page below, above, or inside the selected page. Changing a Page To change the contents and settings of a particular page, click the edit link that shows up when you hover over the page that is to be edited. From here you will be taken to the Change page screen.
4 From this page you can add/edit content as well as edit all of the settings for the page. At the top of the page you still have the Title and Slug sections that provide the same function as when you add a new page. You also have the options to publish the page with the Is published check box, as well as specify if you want the page to show up in the cross site menues with the In navigation checkbox. The Basic Settings section gives you the ability to change the page template that will be rendered. The template effects the basic layout of the page and what areas of the page you can add content to. At this time there are six different templates to choose from. They are: Inherit the template of the nearest ancestor: This is the default template setting, as well as the template setting we recommend you use the majority of the time. It allows the page to inherit the template properties from its predecessor. Elements such as the banner image that is displayed at the top of the page will be inherited to the child pages for design consistency. Two Column w/menu: This is the template that is used on most pages throughout the college websites. This presents the page with a left column menu, a main middle column, and a smaller column on the right side of the page. One Column w/menu: This template drops the right column from the two column w/menu template and allows the main middle column to span the entire page to the right of the menu. One Column: Used for special cases, this template provides the entire page below the banner as an editable region and drops the left side menu. Two Column: The same format as the Once column, but splits the page down the middle 50/50 to create two editable regions. Three Column: Again, this template is the same as the One & Two column templates but splits the page into three evenly spaced editable regions. There are several buttons located at the top right of the change page screen. The "Publish draft" button will save your changes and publish them to the site. The "Preview draft" button allows you to see what the page will look like in the browser without actually publishing it. The "Revert to public" button will cancel all changes that have not yet been published. If your changes have not been published but have been saved, on "Select page to change" the unpublished page will be highlighted.
5 In the previous image the page titled "Home" has changes that have not been published. There are two icons under the "last changes" column. Selecting the icon with the green checkmark will publish the page. Removing a Page Removing pages in the Django CMS is relatively simple, but note that once a page is removed all of the associated content of that page will be permanently deleted. To remove a page click on the red x in the actions column of the page to be deleted. A prompt page will then come up asking if you are sure you want to remove the page. If you are sure, click the Yes, I'm sure button. Next Steps Once you know how to add, change, and remove pages the next step is to learn about managing content on a page itself.
