3 The Course i - Create { DGD } Diploma of Computer Graphic Design The Diploma of Computer Graphic Design is all about mastering visual communication. This means learning how to combine creativity with technology to, communicate ideas and create work that is compelling, persuasive and powerful. Study the principles of page design. Learn How to use image capture and manipulation to bring text and illustration together. Become proficient in a range of digital illustration and editing techniques to create a variety of printed material - from newsletters, posters to magazines, brochures, packaging and advertising media. Certificate in Digital Media DWD DGD Diploma in Web Development Layout design: Study the principles of page design, and learn how to design and layout document for effective communication. Digital illustration: Learn digital illustration and editing method using a range of techniques. Images capture and manipulation: Study the creation of digital imagery including image capture, manipulation and preparation for print. Design and visualisation: Explore a wide range of creative and design processes to achieve effective visual communication. Branding and advertising: Investigate the importance of company branding and production of effective advertising material. Pre-Press and problem-solving: Prepare electronic files for commercial printing and solve the problems associated with producing a quality output. Packaging: Design and produce printing packaging item. Typography: Explore the nature and treatment of type and its application. Software: Software used on this course includes Photoshop, illustrator, in Design and Acrobat. Creative Graphic Design Assessment: You must meet all the standards set for a particular task. There are no examinations. Students who successfully complete the diploma of Computer Graphic Design can also be awarded for Print NZ unit standard, which are recognised in the digital printing industry. The unit standards are awarded across a number of assignments covering design and layout, Typography etc. 10 3
4 { i - Create } Certificate in Digital Media If you are interested in creative digital design but not sure of the path you want to take then you can consider i-create. It is the fun and practical way to explore the many options available at Animasia. You will try your hand at animation, video production, graphic and web design, with practical art sessions to brush up on your creative skills. Projects include making a video, developing 3D animation, creating a website and designing graphics and illustrations for print. All using industry standard softwares. i-create will help you figure out what area of design really inspires you. After completing the course you will qualify to move on to the diploma level study. Core Skills: Learn how to use a digital still camera, scan images, use image and illustration software to create and manipulate images, create visual diary, learn design principles such as colour theory, pattern and texture and computer file management. Print: Learn the production planning process for printed documents, create single and multi page documents for printing and understand graphic design terms and principles. Motion: Gain an understanding of the production planning process for animated and video based stories, understand film and animation terms, make a short film model and object and animate a supplied character. Interactive: Learn the production planning process for web based projects, understand web and new media terms, use computer video editing, software to compress for the web, produce a basic website and flash animation. Softwares: Software used on this course may include Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, imovie, Premiere Flash Blender or LightWave and Dreamweaver Assessment: Assessment is based on project work, and visual & oral presentations. { DWD } Diploma in Web Development Advanced studies: Look at a range of advanced topics, both design and development focused, things like industry standard content mangement systems, how to handle credit card payments, Google Maps, Ajax, code libraries, how to make sites for mobile phones and for the disabled, etc. Industry project: Plan, document, code and present a dynamic, database-driven web application to industry standards. Portfolio: Create an online portfolio that demonstrates your skills. * Course content is subject to change to ensure continued industry relevance. Assessment: Assessment is standards-based, which means you need to meet all the standards set for a particular task. You are encouraged to develop technical skills and your own design style. There are no marks or examinations. Reassessment opportunities are available. All projects must be produced to a commercial standard. Minimum 80% attendance requirements apply. Software: Microsoft XP Professional, Abode Flash, Abobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop Languages: XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, ActionScript, XML, PHP, MySQL Entry Requirements: You must provide evidence of interests and skills relevant to this course, e.g. previous experience with a computer programming or scripting language, logical thinking and/or problem solving. To do the optional advanced usability component, you may need to demonstrate your creativity by submitting examples of your work. Diploma of Web Development students pick-up the web programming, design and usability skills needed to build feature-rich, database-driven websites that are easy to use, look good and can incorporate complex features like, shopping carts and auctions. By the end of the web development course you will work independently to produce an online portfolio to showcase your design and technical skills for the prospective employers to see if you have got the right stuff. This course teaches skills and techniques of animation and video production and you will be working on projects from idea to reality. You will develop story-telling and design skills, learn to shoot, capture and edit digital video, record voiceovers, edit music, and create own soundtracks. This course also covers the latest industry standard techniques for 3d modelling and animation, as well as post-production finishing touches. Story-telling: Develop story telling essentials to communication using animation and moving images. Client-side development: Learn XHTML syntax and techniques, how to develop forms, how to centralise formatting control using Cascading Style Sheets. You will also develop visual effects and post production techniques, art and computer graphic design skills and get the inside knowledge on industry practice using industry standard software, create an animated world and bring it to life. Art and design: Develop your creative and design skills, study life drawing, animation and art history, screen composition, lighting and colour, develop your understanding of visual language and how to create storyboards. Animation principles: Make objects move in a realistic way; learn how to use weight, elasticity, anticipation and exaggeration to show thoughts and attitudes of a character or object Industry practice: Learn how copyright and legal issues affect production, how animation production is managed and how workflow is organised, develop communication skills essential for working in the animation industry. Modelling and rigging: Model both mechanical and organic forms using the latest 3D modelling techniques, design and create characters complete with facial expressions and skeletons for use in your animations. Character animation: Bring simple characters to life, learn how acting and direction can influence animation, create walk cycles, animate a character to convey emotions and thoughts.
