Get to know your content and support tools The header section is your gateway to the content in your subscription(s) and is consistent on every page. From here, view your available subscriptions and content collections, begin your search or advanced search, log in as an administrator, or contact Customer Sales or Technical Support. My Access section The My Access section is displayed on roll over. The drop down screen will display a list of the full-text collections available in your subscription(s). Each collection listed is also a link, which when clicked will show all the content in the collection as a list of search results. Other resources Access these resources from the My Access section: Login link for customer administrators. Request Institutional Access (Shibboleth and Open Athens single sign-on authentication). Log in for More Access. As part of your subscription you may have access to an additional subscription. Use this link to login with the appropriate credentials. Log out of the Digital Library. 7 Navigating through results When viewing a results detail page, you can navigate back and forth to the previous and next search result by clicking on the Back and Next buttons located at the bottom of the page in a prominent blue navigation bar. This bar remains visible while scrolling down the page. In addition, you can navigate back to the search results page by selecting the link on the left side of the bar. Close the bar with the Hide Bar link. Quick access to your full text content The My Access subscription facet is always available on search results pages. The facet displays your subscription collections and their relationship to the parent content type. These filters can be used to quickly drill down into your full text documents. Digital Library User Guide
Using Search How to make the most of search Access to the Digital Library content begins with Search or Advanced Search. Each tool has its own benefits depending on your experience with searching techniques. Your subscription The Digital Library comprises over 200,000 full text and bibliographic records of the most current technical papers, standards, ebooks, magazine content, and related publications. This includes over 35,000 aerospace and ground vehicle standards, and their historical versions, and over 95,000 technical papers dating back to Your subscription is comprised of one or more collections that comprise the content database. What does My Access do? You will notice a My Access button within the search box. When this box is checked, it ensures that your search is ONLY looking at content that is in your subscription, and therefore will deliver results that are documents that you can download. These results will be displayed in the My Access tab. Digital Library User Guide
You can switch off My Access at any time to expand the search results. Doing so will deliver search full-text AND bibliographic results, displaying them in the All Results tab. The easiest way to search the Digital Library is to use the main Search tool. This allows you to search your subscription by Keyword, Document Number, Standard Number, DOI Number, and Author. Search will also accept the basic boolean operations. The Advanced Search Tool Advanced Search helps you to search using more specific terms within selected fields. More search fields can be added using the plus (+) sign at the right side of the search entry field. To further target your search, use the drop down list of available search fields which are: Abstract, Author Affiliation, Author Name, Cross Reference Number, Document Number, DOI Number, Larger Publication Number, Publisher, and Title. Digital Library User Guide
You can further refine your search by selecting a specific publishing date range or time period. Preset how you want the results to be displayed by selecting the preferred Sort By criteria which are: Relevance, Title, and Date. You can select how you want the results to display, an up/down arrow indicates the sorted order. For an even more specific content search, use the My Access facets. Click on the desired filter in the facet list; the selections will appear as My Access below the search fields. Add as many filters as you need, then do a search. To remove a filter, click on the x next to the selected filter. Digital Library User Guide
Viewing Results The clean display of search results and the ability to preview documents online (when available) make it easy to evaluate your results and dig deeper into the content; without having to repeat searches or use more advanced searching techniques. 12 Managing Results What is a facet? A facet is a grouping of a series of document values. For example; Content Types, Topic, and Publisher are facets, and Standard, Engines, and Ford Motor Co. are values (or filters) of those facets. The SAE Digital Library uses facets to help you narrow down a search quickly and easily without having to use complex search phrases. Using facets The facets that are displayed come from the current set of search results. You can add as many facets to a new search or search results as needed. The available facet groups are: Content facet This group displays the types of content available in the Digital Library. Topic facet Select a relevant topic from the extensive taxonomy list. Date facet Select a year or enter a date range to filter the results set. Author facet Select an author, or multiple authors to locate all documents published by the author. Publisher facet Choose from the list of publishers to target a specific organization, institution, or agency. Affiliation facet Choose from the list of author affiliations to target a specific organization, institution, or agency the author of the document is, or was, affiliated with. The facet list can be expanded or collapsed as needed revealing the filters in the facet group. Each filter displays a results count to assist you in narrowing down the search results. A blue box and checkmark denotes a selected filter. To deselect a filter, click the checkbox. Digital Library User Guide

To activate the revised search criteria, click anywhere on the greyed-out search results area. To cancel a refresh and continue with your previous task click the X (bottom left of the screen). Digital Library User Guide
