Vocabulary Freelance:Working for different companies at different times rather than being permanently employed by one company. Graphics: Visual images produced by computers.
What is the Work Activity? Work Activity: You are a freelance graphic designer. A new shopping area is being developed in town. The area is going to be filled with many stores that are already established: Target, Macy s, McDonald s, Apple, Nike, etc. It is also going to be filled with several stores that are unknown: Slick Bottom Shoes, Wiggly Piggly s Corn Dog Shack, Big Store of Stuff, Video Game Dungeon, and Bags of Candy. Your job is to choose one of these unknown companies, and create a logo for the store you chose. You can also make up your own company name, and decide what that company sells in the store. You will then pitch your logo to the class as if you were pitching it to the owners of the company. You may use any visual format you would like for your presentation (i.e. Google Slides, WeVideo, Powtoon, etc). 15
Topics To Explore Before Starting Your Task 6 Absolute Rules for Effective Print Advertisements LINK by Mediaspace Solutions
Topics To Explore Before Starting Your Task Design Concepts
Graphic Designer: Essential Vocabulary Directions: 1. You will read each of these sentences and determine which vocabulary word best fits the sentence. 2. You will then explain your thinking in the box directly under the sentence. Be sure to indicate which clues you used to make your choice. 3. There is an example to your right. Margin Definition: The blank space that surrounds the text on a page. I thought the poster looked nice but I didn t like the two-inch surrounding the image. It was way too much white space on what should have been an epic picture. I thought the poster looked nice but I didn t like the two-inch margin surrounding the image. It was way too much white space on what should have been an epic picture. I chose margin because the word white space reminds me of blank space. It also said it was surrounding an image and margins surround something on a page.
Graphic Designer: Essential Vocabulary These two shirts are exactly the same. However, one of them costs twenty dollars more simply because it has the Nike on it. Explain: I chose the word because.
Graphic Designer: Essential Vocabulary I don t want to hire someone full time to work on a three month project. Let s just hire a artist. We could probably find someone who is just out of college. That should save us a lot on our budget. Explain: I chose the word because.
Graphic Designer: Essential Vocabulary When I started playing video games on Playstation 4, I was blown away by the of each game. The human characters felt so life like and the scenery was incredibly detailed. It was like walking through an actual photograph. Explain: I chose the word because.
Graphic Designer: Planning the Work Activity Which of the shared resources would best help you design your logo? Is your presentation going to be digital? If so, will you be using PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, or some other presentation medium? Which of the fake businesses are you going to choose or are you going to create your own business? Can you create an ad pitch that will convince clients to choose your design? Look at this LINK to see someone give an expert pitch to a client.
Success Criteria YES NOT YET I can identify key information about being a graphic designer. (RI.7.2) I can draw on several sources to conduct research in order to come up with the right design elements. (W.7.7) I can present claims and findings in a clear way to present my logo ideas. (SL.7.4) I introduced my topic. I organized my presentation to make it easy to understand. I provided facts, definitions, concrete details, and quotations about my topic. I included a concluding section connected to the information in my presentation. Did I spell correctly? Did I use capital letters correctly? Did I use punctuation correctly? I can use visual elements in my logo design to show the audience that I understand the product or service. (SL.7.5) Drag the check marks to the YES or NOT YET boxes. 23
Graphic Designer: Reflection After completing your research and task, do you think being a Graphic Designer would interest you as a career? Why or why not? Please write a paragraph that explains your thinking in the space below.
Graphic Designer: Your Products or Presentations You can use this slide to link to your artifacts.
