Creation of the application based on the DevForce Silverlight by IdeaBlade with the use of Report Sharp-Shooter for Silverlight by Perpetuum Software. Getting Started Table of Contents: Preface 2 Product Prerequisites 2 Creation of an Application 3 Troubleshooting 10 The connection cannot be opened 10 The PerpetuumSoft.Reporting.Silverlight.Client assembly cannot be found 10 1
Preface The purpose of this Getting Started is to demonstrate the running of the reports in Silverlight application created with DevForce Silverlight platform. To do this, we will create a simple report, bind it to a data source and display in the application. Product Prerequisites The installation of the following software is required: MS Visual Studio 2008.Net 3.5 ASP.Net 2.0 Silverlight 3.0 DevForce Silverlight Report Sharp-Shooter for Silverlight
Creation of an application. To simplify our task, let s take a ready application. To ensure the work of the sample, we will need the NorthwindIB database from the DevForce delivery package. The FirstSilverlightApp sample from the DevForce delivery package will serve as as a base of our new application. Now, we need to add a simple report to the application. But before that, we should make some adjustments. Open the Page.xaml file from the FirstSilverlightApp project and replace its content with the following: <UserControl x:class="firstsilverlightapp.page" xmlns=" xmlns:x=" xmlns:rv="clrnamespace:perpetuumsoft.reporting.silverlight.client;assembly=perpetuums oft.reporting.silverlight.client" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Grid Width="Auto" Height="Auto" x:name="layoutroot" Background="White"> <rv:reportviewer Width="Auto" Height="Auto" x:name="repviewer" ReportName="CustomersList"></rv:ReportViewer> </Grid> </UserControl> We should do the same with the Page.xaml.cs file: replace its content with the following: using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; using IdeaBlade.EntityModel; using DomainModel; namespace FirstSilverlightApp public partial class Page : UserControl public Page() InitializeComponent(); Loaded += Page_Loaded; repviewer.serviceurl = System.Windows.Browser.HtmlPage.Plugin.GetProperty("initParams").ToString(); void Page_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) repviewer.renderdocument(); 3
Open the Default.aspx file from the FirstSilverlightAppWeb project and add the initparams parameter indicating the service address: <object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/xsilverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%"> <param name="source" value="clientbin/firstsilverlightapp.xap"/> <param name="onerror" value="onsilverlighterror" /> <param name="background" value="white" /> <param name="minruntimeversion" value=" " /> <param name="autoupgrade" value="true" /> <param name="initparams" value='<%= GetReportServiceUrl()%>' /> <a href=" style="text-decoration:none"> <img src=" alt="get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/> </a> </object> To get the address, let s use the function that can be determined directly in the Default.aspx file or in the code. Here, we will use the file: <script runat="server"> protected string GetReportServiceUrl() UriBuilder ub = new UriBuilder(Request.Url); ub.path = (Request.ApplicationPath.Equals("/", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase))? "/RServer.svc" : Request.ApplicationPath + "/RServer.svc"; return ub.tostring(); </script> Now we add the references to the assemblies required for the Silverlight Report Viewer. To do that, we add the PerpetuumSoft.Reporting.Silverlight.Client assembly to the FirstSilverlightApp project, and the PerpetuumSoft.Reporting and PerpetuumSoft.Reporting.Silverlight.Server assemblies to the FirstSilverlightAppWeb project. 4
Pic. 1 Then, we add the Silverlight-enabled WCF Service into the FirstSilverlightAppWeb project. This service is required to enable the SL Report Viewer. It will be used to exchange the information and data obtaining. Let s name it RServer.svc. 5
Pic. 2 Open the file with the service we ve just created and derive it from the ReportServiceBase. Please pay attention to the AspNetCompatibilityRequirements attribute, it is required to ensure the correct functioning. As our next step, we switch to the Designer mode and place the ReportManager component on the form. Pic. 3 6
Run the Editor by double click on the ReportManager component. Create a slot of the FileReportSlot type and name it filereportslot. Pic. 4 And finally, run the Designer of reports by either clicking the Run Designer button or by double clicking the Slot. We add the PageHeader on the top of the page, and place the TextBox element with the Customers List name inside the PageHeader. Then, we add the DataBand, placing it below the PageHeader, and write the data source name for it in the DataSource property of the DataBand. The name of the data source is CustomersList. Then, we add the Header section with 4 TextBox elements to the DataBand, and the Detail section with four TexBox elements to the same DataBand. Using the ScriptEditor we assign the data binding for each of 4 TextBox elements of the Detail section. The value of the first TextBox is GetData("CustomersList.CompanyName"), of the second one - GetData("CustomersList.ContactName"), the value of the third one - GetData("CustomersList.ContactTitle"), and of the forth one - GetData("CustomersList.Address"). TextBox elements of the Header section will have the following names: Company, Contact, Title, and Address. Here, we finish working with the Designer, save the report and close the Designer. 7
Pic. 5 A report template is ready. Now we must prepare the data for it. To do this, we open the source code of our service and override the OnLoadData function the following way: protected override void OnLoadData(IDictionary<string, object> parameters, string reportname, ReportSlot reportslot) base.onloaddata(parameters, reportname, reportslot); DomainModel.DomainModelEntityManager entitymanager = new DomainModel.DomainModelEntityManager(); reportmanager.datasources.add("customerslist", entitymanager.executequery<domainmodel.customer>(entitymanager.customers)); Now it is time to configure the service. Open the web.config file and find the following section: <system.servicemodel><service name="firstsilverlightapp.rserver">. Our task now is to determine two end points as it is shown below: 8
<endpoint address="" binding="basichttpbinding" contract="perpetuumsoft.reporting.silverlight.server.ireportservice"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> <endpoint address="rest" behaviorconfiguration="webbehavior" binding="webhttpbinding" bindingconfiguration="" contract="perpetuumsoft.reporting.silverlight.server.ireportserviceresources" /> And finally, the last step is to assign the behavior of the end point: <endpointbehaviors> <behavior name="webbehavior"> <webhttp /> </behavior> </endpointbehaviors> That is it, we close the configuration file, make the FirstSilverlightAppWeb as a start project, and the default.aspx page as a start page, press F5 and enjoy the results of our work! 9
Troubleshooting Connection cannot be opened. The sample is made assuming that SQL Server instance (unnamed) is used by default with the use of the integrated security. If it does not correspond to your requirements, please address to the configuration file and adjust 2 lines as it is below: <edmkey name="default" connection="metadata=res://firstsilverlightapp/servermodelnorthwindib.csdl re s://firstsilverlightapp/servermodelnorthwindib.ssdl res://firstsilverlightapp /ServerModelNorthwindIB.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data Source=.;Initial Catalog=NorthwindIB;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True"" containername="firstsilverlightapp.servermodelnorthwindibcontext"> and <add name="servermodelnorthwindibcontext" connectionstring="metadata=res://*/servermodelnorthwindib.csdl res://*/server ModelNorthwindIB.ssdl res://*/servermodelnorthwindib.msl;provider=system.data.sqlclient;provider connection string="data Source=.;Initial Catalog=NorthwindIB;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True"" providername="system.data.entityclient" /> The PerpetuumSoft.Reporting.Silverlight.Client assembly cannot be found If Visual Studio cannot find the PerpetuumSoft.Reporting.Silverlight.Client assembly, please make sure that the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v3.0\AssemblyFoldersEx\Perpetuum Software.NET ModelKit Suite key exists in the registry and includes the C:\Program Files\IdeaBlade DevForce\SilverlightAssemblies string value. 10
