Create a New Notebook Create a New Notebook Click File > New Select Computer or Your SkyDrive Type in Name of Notebook Click Create Notebook (Click to save to another file) Note: This is part of a database. Name a Section Right click on the New Section Tab and rename section Type Name Notice the first page is named the same as the section Create a New Page Click on + next to Add Page Right Click on page to create a Subpage One Note Day One Page 1
Delete Page Right click on Page to Delete Can also Promote SubPage Search Notes Type any word into Search Field and One Note will search entire document Gather Screen Clippings Click Window logo key + S Note: Capture screenshots of what is displayed on the Web or in programs. Screen clippings are especially useful for Web research, trip planning, online shopping, and product comparisons. Using the icon for Screen Clippings To insert a screen clipping into the current page: Place the cursor where the clipping is to be placed Click Insert > Screen Clipping or the Clip button on the toolbar This will includethe URL of the item being clipped if it is off th e URL One Note Day One Page 2
Example of Screen Clipping Organizing Notes Start with the Work and Personal notebooks that are already created in OneNote and modify New pages are typically blank For a more decorative design, apply a template to a new page by clicking Insert > Page Templates > Page Templates. Create Sections by project or topic If your activities revolve around a project, a topic, or a class, create a section for each of these items in your notebook. Teachers: Make the notebook by student, or by concept or standard being taught. Staff: Notebooks can be by School, Director, Curriculum, or any task. Using Unfiled Notes Quick way to add notes to Onenote: Click Window logo key + N which immediately launches OneNote Click on New Quick Note (N) Note: This creates a new page in the Unfiled Notes section (click the button at the bottom of the Navigation Bar to jump to it later). It's okay if this section gets big. You can drag the pages to other sections later, or just use search to find them in this section. One Note Day One Page 3
Changing Organization over time As you use OneNote and create more notes, you may want to organize your notes differently: If you find yourself creating a lot of pages for a topic, try dragging them into a new section If you find yourself creating many sections in one notebook, try putting some of them into a separate notebook Make navigation between notes more convenient by creating several notebooks at the top level, rather than putting everything inside one notebook When you need to reorganize your notes, you may find it convenient to expand the Navigation Bar: Where are my One Note files in Windows Explorer or on my h drive: Notebooks are regular folders Sections are regular files Different View of Notebooks Here is one way to look only at one notebook at a time. One Note Day One Page 4
To change view click on the Push Pin Note: Push Pins are in several other areas- if you lose your toolbar click on the top tab and pin your toolbar back on. Notes to Others From Home Send any note page as an message, directly from OneNote. For example, send your meeting notes to other meeting participants. Recipients don't need to have OneNote to view the notes, because the notes are placed into the body of the message in HTML format, or added as an HTML attachment. Drag and Drop Click the Page button to compose a message. Drag and drop pages, sections, and notebooks to quickly reorganize notes. Reorder section tabs to bring frequently used sections close together. Or you can drag sections to a different notebook. Reorder notebooks on the Navigation Bar (on the left-hand side) Expand the Navigation Bar when you want to reorganize many items at once--then drag the items within the navigation pane. One Note Day One Page 5
Export as a PDF Publish selected Page(s) or a Section or a Notebook. Click File > Export>Page/Section/Notebook select PDF click Export Tagging Put the curser in a place on the page Type a list Click Tag Drop Down Choose from Tags given Note: Searching can be done by tags Tag Important Notes Use Tags to easily find important items buried in your notes. To see tags from all notebooks, click View > All Tagged Notes. Customize your tags Customize your tags however you want using Customize My Tags at the bottom of the drop-down menu. If you use OneNote at work, you can create tags that match your occupation. Students can use tags that are keyed to specific academic tasks. One Note Day One Page 6
Taking Notes of Many Types Note Containers Take notes from top to bottom like in a word processor or use the whole page to arrange things as they make sense to you. When you take notes all over the page, they end up in separate note containers that you can move around. Try dragging the note containers using the handle at the top of each container. Press SHIFT while dragging if you want to merge the containers. Add a Picture Type in your notes Insert a Pictures or copy and paste You can paste pictures into your notes, including clip art and digital photos Create list Same as word It's easy to create lists: Bulleted lists for random thoughts In many different styles Even nested outlines 1. Create numbered lists 2. Use them for step-by-step notes One Note Day One Page 7
Ink Notes Click on Draw Click on Pen Write your notes Customize quick access bar with your favorite pen Table Put the cursor at the end of a word Press TAB, and then type another word Press TAB, and then type another word Press ENTER Press TAB to jump from cell to cell and type something in the cells. Press ENTER at the end of the row Useful shortcuts: ALT + ENTER insert another line inside a cell (when ENTER doesn't do it in the last cell of a table) CTRL + ENTER insert a row below CTRL + ALT + E, R insert a column to the left, right Or Insert Table Store information in tables Food to bring Quantity Apples 5 Oranges 4 Drinks 8 One Note Day One Page 8
