It is important to note that without additional configuration from an I.T. Department these settings will need to be applied to all users accounts on all computers that they access the Report Exec program from. Report Exec is fed to the end-user through a web-browser so it is subject to the personalized settings on each local computer. Without the settings outlined in this document properly in place the application may not perform correctly. Errors caused from not having these settings set properly can be sporadic and hard to replicate. Technical Support The servername entries mentioned throughout the document are relative to each individual agency. Agencies that use the Report Exec Direct solution will need to apply these settings for Report Exec s web server. Agencies the host their own servers need to use the web URL as provided by their I.T. Department. If the server name is unknown, or if there are questions about browser settings in general, Report Exec Technical Support at support@reportexec.com or call (414) option 2. Windows OS Three web browsers are supported in Windows. Version of Report Exec will work successfully with Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Microsoft Internet Explorer This document assumes that Internet Explorer is set fairly close to default settings. If users are receiving odd javascript errors on pages throughout Report Exec then it is recommended to reset Internet Explorer to default settings to start fresh before configuring these settings. IE 11.0 IE 9.0, 10.0 IE 9 and 10 are no longer supported. IE 10.0 Metro IE 10.0 Metro on Windows 8 is not supported. 2
IE 11.0 The Tools and View menu are hidden by default. To temporarily enable the Menu Bar, press the ALT key on the keyboard. Another way to find these menus is to right click some empty space at the top of the browser window and select either the Menu Bar or the Command Bar from the list of options. Trusted Sites If the Report Exec website is not trusted by Internet Explorer then it cannot properly interact with the local computer the way it needs to. For example; when creating a Case Report, the program wants to use local computer time, but if it is not allowed it will revert to using the server s time which may or may not be in the same time zone as the user writing reports. Trusted Sites are configured in the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. Note: Agencies that host their own servers only need to add servername to the Trusted Sites if users access the server externally. All IE versions Find Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools menu. Select the Security Tab. Make sure the Trusted Sites zone is set to the Medium-Low security level. o Note: Agencies that host their own servers only need to verify that the Local Intranet zone is set to Medium-Low, which is typically the default setting. Make sure servername is added to the list of Trusted Sites. Browsing History By default Internet Explorer will automatically look for new copies of webpages. If Internet Explorer is not checking for new web pages automatically then the Report Exec application will behave in an odd manner. Web-pages fed from Report Exec are updated frequently as information in the systems changes. Browsing History is configured in the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. All IE versions Find Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. On the General tab, under the Browsing History section, click Settings. Make sure that the setting for Check for newer versions of store pages is set to Automatically. Temporary Internet Files By default, Internet Explorer will save copies of webpages, images, and media so that they can be loaded fast the next time that page is visited. This can result in old versions of a report page being saved on the user s computer which will confuse the web browser and cause odd errors. Report Exec Technical Support recommends removing these files from time-to-time or setting them to automatically remove themselves upon exiting Internet Explorer. This will help ensure a smooth application experience. Temporary Internet Files are configured and/or deleted in the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. All IE versions Find Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. To delete the Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete button to open a list of items to delete. For Report Exec, only the Temporary Internet Files need to be deleted once-in-awhile. Everything else can be preserved if desired. Click Delete to delete the Temporary Internet Files. All open windows of Internet Explorer must be closed to finish the process of deleting these files. Additionally, Temporary Internet Files can be automatically removed when all open IE windows are closed by checking the box to Delete Browsing History on exit when the checkbox for Temporary Internet Files is checked in the Delete menu. Pop-up Blocker By default, the Pop-up Blocker is on in Internet Explorer. Report Exec generates pop-ups so these will need to be allowed for the program to work correctly. An exception can be made in Internet Explorer so that Report Exec pop-ups are allowed. The Pop-up Blocker is configured in the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. 3
All IE versions Find Internet Options at the bottom of the Tools menu of Internet Explorer. Select the Privacy tab. Under the Pop-up Blocker section, if the Pop-up Blocker is checked to be on, click Settings. o Add servername to the list of allowed websites. If the Pop-up Blocker is not checked to be on, then pop-ups should be allowed unless restricted at a higher level, meaning by an I.T. Department. Zoom Settings By default, Internet Explorer is set with a zoom level of 100%. The zoom setting can be increased if desired, however certain aspects of the program may not display correctly. Zoom settings are found in the bottom right corner of the IE window, or, if not there, then they are found in the View menu. All IE versions Find the Zoom Settings in the bottom right corner of IE, or find the View menu at the top. Change the zoom setting to 100% to make Report Exec display correctly. Google Chrome This document assumes that Chrome is set fairly close to default settings. Google Chrome 17.0 and higher. Browsing Data By default, Chrome is going to save copies of webpages so that the page will load faster the next time it is viewed. This can result in old versions of a report page being saved on the user s computer which will confuse the web browser and cause odd errors. Report Exec Technical Support recommends removing these files from time-to-time, or clearing these when an error is received to be sure that it wasn t the cache that caused the error. Click Show Advanced Settings. Under the Privacy section, click the Clear browsing data button. o Select the option to Obliterate the following items from: the beginning of time. o The Empty the cache option is the only one needed to be selected for this step. o Click Clear browsing data. Images By default, Google Chrome will allow images from various websites, including the Report Exec software, to be displayed. It is possible to force Chrome to not allow any images to be displayed. If images are missing, or if the program seems to be displaying in an odd manner in Chrome, this setting should be confirmed. Click Show Advanced Settings. Under the Privacy section, click the Content Settings button. Find the section for Images. o If Show all images (recommended) is selected then everything should work as expected. o If Do not show any images is selected, click the Manage Exceptions button. JavaScripting By default, Google Chrome is set to allow JavaScript. Many of the functions in Report Exec are handled with JavaScripting. There are also many malicious software programs in existence that use JavaScripting to try to cause problems, or worse, on a computer. Google Chrome allows JavaScripting to be turned off quite easily. An exception can be made so that Report Exec is still allowed to function properly. 4
JavaScripting is controlled in the Settings menu of Chrome. Click Show Advanced Settings. Under the Privacy section, click the Content Settings button. Find the section for JavaScript. o If Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended) is selected then everything should work as expected. o If Do not allow any site to run JavaScript is selected, click the Manage Exceptions button. Pop-ups By default, pop-ups will be blocked in Chrome. Report Exec generates pop-ups so these will need to be allowed for the program to work correctly. An exception can be made in Google Chrome so that Report Exec pop-ups are allowed. When the Report Exec login page is accessed and pop-ups are blocked, Chrome should offer to add the Report Exec site to a list of sites allowed to generate pop-ups. Otherwise, the Pop-up Blocker is configured in the Settings menu in Chrome. Click Show Advanced Settings. Under the Privacy section, click the Content Settings button. Find the section on Pop-ups. o If Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended) is selected, click the Manage Exceptions button. o If Allow all sites to show pop-ups is selected then the application should work as expected. Mozilla Firefox This document assumes that Firefox is set fairly close to default settings. Mozilla Firefox 5.0 and higher. Pop-ups By default, Mozilla Firefox is set to block pop-ups from webpages. Report Exec generates pop-ups so these will need to be allowed for the program to work correctly. An exception can be made in Firefox so that Report Exec pop-ups are allowed. When the Report Exec login page is accessed and pop-ups are blocked, Firefox should offer to add the Report Exec site to a list of sites allowed to generate pop-ups. Otherwise, the Pop-up Blocker is configured in the Firefox menu in Firefox. If Block pop-up windows is checked to be on, click Exceptions. o Add servername to the list of allowed websites. If Block pop-up windows is not checked to be one, then the pop-ups should work as expected. JavaScripting By default, Mozilla Firefox is set to allow JavaScript. Many of the functions in Report Exec are handled with JavaScripting. There are also many malicious software programs in existence that use JavaScripting to try to cause problems, or worse, on a computer. Mozilla Firefox allows JavaScripting to be turned off quite easily. Firefox allows JavaScripting to be turned on and off quite easily, if needed, but cannot be controlled per individual site like in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. JavaScripting is controlled in the Firefox menu of Firefox. 5
Verify the checkbox for Enable JavaScript is checked. Font Size By default, Mozilla Firefox has the font set to Times New Roman with a size of 12. Firefox allows this to be changed for all websites very easily. Too large of a font can cause the pages in Report Exec to display in odd manners, sometimes being unusable. As there is no way to control this for individual webpages, it is recommended to use the default settings. Font sizes are controlled in the Firefox menu of Firefox. Font style, sizes, and colors are controlled in the Fonts & Colors section. Images By default, Mozilla Firefox will allow images from various websites, including the Report Exec software, to be displayed. It is possible to force Firefox to not allow any images to be displayed. If images are missing, or if the program seems to be displaying in an odd manner in Firefox, this setting should be confirmed. Find the Firefox menu and select Options. Click Show Advanced Settings. Under the Content section, verify the Load images automatically checkbox is checked, or add servername to the list of exceptions by clicking the Exceptions button. Microsoft Edge Edge is Microsoft s new web browser in Windows 10. Internet Explorer will eventually be fully phased on by Edge. This document assumes that Edge is set fairly close to default settings. Microsoft Edge 20.x Pop-ups By default, Microsoft Edge is set to block pop-ups from webpages. Report Exec generates pop-ups so these will need to be allowed for the program to work correctly. An exception can be made in Edge so that Report Exec pop-ups are allowed. When the Report Exec login page is accessed and pop-ups are blocked, Edge should offer to add the Report Exec site to a list of sites allowed to generate pop-ups. Otherwise, the Pop-up Blocker is configured in the Settings menu in Edge. All Edge versions Find the More actions menu and select Settings. Click View advanced settings Under Block pop-ups, move the slider from On to Off. Browsing Data By default, Edge is going to save copies of webpages so that the page will load faster the next time it is viewed. This can result in old versions of a report page being saved on the user s computer which will confuse the web browser and cause odd errors. Report Exec Technical Support recommends removing these files from time-to-time, or clearing these when an error is received to be sure that it wasn t the cache that caused the error. Find the More actions menu in Edge. Click Settings. Under the Clear browsing data section, click the Choose what to clear button. o Select the Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files options. o Click Clear. 6
Mac OS Three web browsers are supported on Mac computers. Version of Report Exec will work successfully with Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Safari This document assumes that Safari is set fairly close to default settings. Safari 5.x Safari 6.x Pop-ups By default, Safari will handle the various pages within Report Exec as a new tab and not as a pop-up. If this is the case then nothing needs to necessarily be changed, however it is still recommended to add the Report Exec site as an exception anyways as this is a step taken for the other web-browsers. When the Report Exec login page is accessed and pop-ups are blocked, Safari should offer to add the Report Exec site to a list of sites allowed to generate pop-ups. Safari does not provide an easy way to add individual website exceptions but the setting can be easily turned on and off as needed. Pop-ups are controlled in the Safari menu of Safari. All Safari versions Find the Preferences menu of Safari. Select the Security tab. Uncheck the Block pop-up windows checkbox found in the Web Content section. o Additionally, you can use a keyboard shortcut to accomplish this same task: shift + [command key] + K JavaScripting By default, Safari is set to allow JavaScript. Many of the functions in Report Exec are handled with JavaScripting so JavaScripting must be enabled any time Report Exec is used. There are also many malicious software programs in existence that use JavaScripting to try to cause problems, or worse, on a computer. Safari allows JavaScripting to be turned on and off quite easily, if needed, but cannot be controlled per individual site like in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. JavaScripting is controlled in the Safari menu of Safari. All Safari versions Find the Preferences menu of Safari. Select the Security tab. Be sure the Enable JavaScript checkbox is checked. Plug-ins By default, Safari allows plug-ins to be used by webpages. Plug-ins need to be allowed in order for certain functions of the Report Exec application, such as camera controls, to work as designed. Plug-ins are controlled in the Safari menu of Safari. All Safari versions Find the Preferences menu of Safari. Verify the checkbox to Allow all other plug-ins is checked. Font Size Safari provides an easy way to manipulate all font sizes in the web browser. Font sizes that are too large can cause the Report Exec program to display odd. Font size is controlled in the Safari menu of Safari. 7
All Safari versions Find the Preferences menu of Safari. Select the Advanced tab. Under the Accessibility section uncheck the box for the Never us font sizes smaller than option. Google Chrome This document assumes that Chrome is set fairly close to default settings. Google Chrome 17.0 and higher.
