DT Measure Foundry provides high-level access to and full control of all data acquisition functions, including all function parameters of A/D, D/A, digital I/O and counter timer subsystems. DT Measure Foundry employs a new concept for application building. Panels (clients) receive data directly from the measurement source (server). Select your measurement source, select the panels to create your user interface, and you re taking measurements in no time! No Code Compiling Fast and Easy Based on emerging technology from Xerox s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), DT Measure Foundry was designed with aspect-oriented programming (AOP) principles in mind. The goal of AOP is to create code that is easier to design, understand and maintain. Developed by Data Translation and based on the concepts of aspect-oriented programming, Aspect Interaction Language (AIL) is a description language. It is used to store/save the descriptions of the aspects of the program. A user creates AIL by dragging and dropping panels in DT Measure Foundry. Without AIL, in an ordinary application, the user would have to compile or interpret code. This is a primary reason why DT Measure Foundry is fast because the program does not have to take the time to compile code, it is already done. This saves time and makes it easier for the user. Even an inexperienced user can create powerful applications quickly and easily. DT Measure Foundry tutorials are simple to understand and powerful to use. 3 DT Measure Foundry Panels File Writer - Records data and saves it to your hard drive. This feature is used when you will not be monitoring data as it comes in, but will want to view it later. The data will be stored in a file and can be displayed in DT Measure Foundry or the built-in Scope analysis package. Text Label - Adds a descriptive text label to your application. Measure Source Label - Displays single data values. You can define the displaying digits, the position for the decimal point, the background color and the color of the digits. Digital Display - Displays single data values in a seven segment digital-display. You can define the displaying digits, the position for the decimal point, the background color and the color of the digits. Standard Panels Use the panels in DT Measure Foundry to create your application. Each panel can be used as is or customized to suit your needs. Description Text Allows you to display larger comments or descriptions on your project. Oscilloscope An unlimited channel scope with high functionality. Provides several essential functions such as a complex trigger, reference cursors, one band and multi-band display, linear and logarithmic y-axis display. You can record data and store it for further offline analysis. The Oscilloscope includes zoom and panning functionality. Spectrum Analyzer Displays and analyzes the frequency spectrum of an input signal by doing a Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). The Spectrum Analyzer can also do Autocorrelation and the Powerspectrum of an input signal. The Spectrum Analyzer includes zoom and panning functionality. Strip Chart Recorder (Line Recorder) - Records and saves the incoming data. Incoming data is displayed while recording. Recording can be stopped by setting a time period or by using a control channel at any time. This screen shows an example of placing an image in a Group Box to illustrate real-world instruments. Group Box The Group Box is a multifunctional panel. It allows you to group panels together by dragging or copying them. The Group Box also allows you to display background photos, creating front panels that look like devices. Also add hot buttons to any image to simulate a realworld instrument interface. LED - Simulates a light emiting diode (LED). It can be used for many purposes, for example, warning you if the channel input has dropped below a certain level. Meter - Displays single data values. You can define the style of the Meter panel in various ways. The angle of gauge, the ranges and the needle can be changed. Bar Graph - Displays the values of your measurement in a bargraph. Repository In the Repository you will find a set of standard solutions for common problems. The Repository allows you to store settings of panels or groups of panels for future use. This is convenient for handling similar problems in different applications.

4 DT Measure Foundry Controlling Panels Universal Controller Used to control the properties of other panels. The unique feature of the Universal Controller is that it will change its style corresponding to the type of property you want to control. For example, if you want to control a color, it displays a color dialog. Event Client Allows you to react to special events occurring while running the application. Finalization Closes a project in a defined state by setting user-defined control properties and control actions. Initialization Starts a project from a defined state by setting user-defined control properties and control actions. Delayed Operation Allows you to implement a delayed reaction if the corresponding control channel is triggered. Value Pipe Allows you to convert an incoming data channel into a control source channel. Action Counter - Reacts to action inputs from any control panel. Data Counter Counts data events. Control Dial - Controls the properties of the panels in your user interface. Control Slider - Controls the properties of the panels in your user interface. DAQ Controller - Controls the basic properties and actions of the measurement source. DATAX Controller - With an installed DATAX Data Acquisition System, change DATAX module specific settings of the ranges and filters. The DATAX Controller becomes automatically configured corresponding to the hardware setup of your DATAX System. Comparator - Defines conditions to trigger a set of actions or change properties of multiple panels. You can change multiple properties of multiple panels and trigger a set of actions simultaneously. This allows you to design dynamic applications that can react to signal changes. Control Combo - Controls text-based settings of a given panel in your user interface. Control Button - Controls the properties and actions of the panels in your user interface. The advantage of the Control Button is that it can do multiple actions and multiple property changes simultaneously. Control Edit - Controls the properties of the panels in your user interface and/or properties of the measurement source. The advantage of Control Edit is that it is able to set the edited value to multiple properties of multiple panels simultaneously. Control Oscilloscope - Controls the properties and actions of the Oscilloscope. Control Strip Chart Recorder Controls the properties and actions of the Strip Chart (Line) Recorder. Control Spectrum - Controls the properties and actions of the Spectrum Analyzer. Control Hub - Allows you to send the value of one control channel to other control channels. Hot Key - Allows you to assign hot keys to control most of a panel's properties and actions. You can also assign a hot key that allows you to switch between front panels.

5 DT Measure Foundry The Application Inspector provides an overview of your current project during design time. The Debug Tool display panel allows you to analyze a running DT Measure Foundry program. Application Inspector for Easy Documentation DT Measure Foundry s Application Inspector feature makes it easier to see what s happening in an application. Vital for complex projects, the Application Inspector displays a treestyle overview of an application showing the connections between its data sources, control sources and events, and the data flow between them. Design, development and debugging are made easy because the relationships among the data sources are completely apparent. The Application Inspector can be saved and printed in multiple formats: text, Excel, ASCII file, bitmap, and PDF. You can set the Inspector to automatically create and save a PDF every time the application is closed, creating technical documentation to assist with development. This documentation can also be used to meet ISO requirements, as a training tool or as a problem-solving guide for technical support. Debug Tool To check performance of a running program, DT Measure Foundry comes with a Debug Tool to isolate any event-driven errors. You can start and stop the Debug Tool at any time. The Filter feature allows you to isolate certain functions for example, show all the data sources and their operations. You can save the results of your debug analysis to file. Distribution Wizard Distribution Wizard is a built-in installer application to create and distribute your application with an unlimited number of run-times. This Wizard creates an application complete with all files required to run your application as well as a setup file to automatically install your finished application.

DT Measure Foundry s OPC Tool lets users access OPC hardware on the network, such as programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, etc. Support for Third-Party Hardware Connections The new DT Measure Foundry Software Developer s Kit (SDK) is an open software interface specification that allows you to develop a data source to any vendor s data acquisition board for greater flexibility and investment protection. The Formula Evaluator panel allows you to combine information from data channels and control source channels in a multiple-line formula. Powerful Formula Evaluator for Mathematical Functions The Formula Evaluator is a multifunctional tool that allows the user to combine information from data and control channels and perform mathematical functions. The Formula Evaluator contains a library of more than 200 math functions, typically found in standalone mathematical analysis packages. Essentially its own language within DT Measure Foundry, the Formula Evaluator performs math operations from simple formulas to complicated analysis of signals. You can easily create and save macros. Special Features Ideal for Manufacturing Other new features, ideal for the manufacturing environment, are the Hot Key function and the ability to use DT Measure Foundry as the PC desktop. A DT Measure Foundry application can replace the Windows desktop, turning a standard PC into an instrument. The PC can then only be used to run DT Measure Foundry. Nothing else on it can be used or changed, thereby providing more system security and easy deployment on the assembly line. The Hot Key feature lets you assign standard keyboard keys to toggle between panels or to activate functions in the DT Measure Foundry application with a single keystroke. This feature is ideal for industrial applications in dirty, hazardous environments where an end-user would rather use a keystroke than a mouse.
