5 Downloading IDEA You must have an active IDEA support account. Your credentials for your IDEA support account gives you access to the old IDEA support website ( This is not to be confused with the credentials used to access your new CaseWare Analytics support account on the new CaseWare Analytics Support Portal. IDEA Site License users cannot use Check for Updates to download the latest version of IDEA. Please contact your IT Department or your IDEA Administrator. This document details how to download the latest version of IDEA (for current IDEA Version Nine users only) using: the Check for Updates feature the IDEA Support website the CaseWare Partner Portal to provide a download link to clients If you cannot download the latest version of IDEA using these two methods, contact CaseWare Analytics Support.

6 CA407 Practical Guide to Downloading IDEA Using Check for Updates IDEA Version Nine users can download the latest version of IDEA using the Check for Updates feature. 1. To open IDEA, right-click on the IDEA icon (from the Start menu, or from the Apps page, etc.) and select Run as administrator. 2. On the File tab, click Help. 3. From the Tools for Working with IDEA section, click Check for Updates. The IDEA Updates Available for Download dialog box appears. 4. Click Download. The sign in page for the old IDEA Support website appears in your default internet browser window. 5. Enter the and Password information associated with your IDEA support account. 6

7 Using Check for Updates 6. Click SIGN IN >>. You are directed to the IDEA Updates pages in the support website. 7. From the right side of the page, under Download, from the Region dropdown list, select the region that applies to you. 8. Under the specified region, click Download. 9. Once you have downloaded the installation file, follow the instructions in the IDEA Installation Guide. 7

8 CA407 Practical Guide to Downloading IDEA Downloading IDEA from the IDEA Support Website IDEA Version Nine users can download the latest version of IDEA directly from the old IDEA Support website. 1. In a web browser, go to 2. Enter the and Password information associated with your IDEA support account. 3. Click SIGN IN >>. 4. On the right side of the page, in the Download IDEA section, click latest Version of IDEA. The Download IDEA page appears. You will need to enter your installation key for your IDEA product. The installation key is displayed in the About IDEA section, on the Help page of the File tab in IDEA. 8

9 Downloading IDEA from the IDEA Support Website 5. In the Installation Key field, enter your installation key for your IDEA product. 6. Click DOWNLOAD. The next page displays your installation key an lets you select the appropriate region and language. 7. From the Select region drop-down list, select the region that applies to you. 8. From the Select language drop-down list, select the appropriate language. 9. Click DOWNLOAD. 10. Once you have downloaded the installation file, follow the instructions in the IDEA Installation Guide. 9

10 CA407 Practical Guide to Downloading IDEA Providing a Download Link to Clients CaseWare Analytics Partners can provide their IDEA Version Nine users with a download link to the latest version of IDEA. 1. Log in to the CaseWare Analytics Portal ( 2. Click Clients and Orders. 3. In the License Management tab, click the License Management button associated with the client to whom you want to provide the link. 4. From the drop-down list, select View Licenses. The View All Licenses page appears. 5. Select the check box for the appropriate product package. 6. At the bottom of the page, click Download Link Recovery. A dialog box appears where you can input the reason for the download link recovery. 7. Enter the following information: The number of days in which the link will expire. The product language. To get a download link for IDEA , you must select English. The product encoding (ASCII or Unicode). The appropriate IDEA Version. A comment on why you are requesting the download link recovery. 10

11 Providing a Download Link to Clients 13. Click Submit. The Download Link Recovery.txt file appears the entire link at the top of the page to your client. (Please note that in the image above, part of the link has been blurred for privacy reasons.) 15. The client must enter the link in the address bar of their web browser. The following page is displayed. 11

12 CA407 Practical Guide to Downloading IDEA 16. From the Select region drop-down list, select the region that applies to you. 17. Click Download. If you selected to provide a link for an IDEA Server package, the Download Server button appears also. The client must click both download links. If you selected to provide a link for an IDEA package only, only the one Download link button appears to the client. 18. Once the client has downloaded the installation file, they must follow the instructions in the IDEA Installation Guide. 12
