1 53 Enabling Yur Persnal Web Page n the SacLink *Yu need t enable yur persnal web page nly ONCE. It will be available t yu until yu graduate frm CSUS. T enable yur Persnal Web Page, fllw the steps given belw: 1. Open up a web brwser and g t 2. Click n the Lgin buttn t gain access t yur SacLink Accunt Utilities. 5. Select the Enable Persnal Web Page ptin. 3. Enter yur SacLink Username in the Username field and yur SacLink Passwrd in the Passwrd field. 4. The SacLink Utilities page will be displayed (see belw). 6. T enable yur web page click n the Enable WebPages buttn. Yu will be returned t the SacLink Utilities page. 7. A template including the mandatry CSUS persnal web page disclaimer will be laded int the directry. Als, a link t yur web page will be added t the Directry page at CSUS Persnal Web Pages. 8. Yur Web page will be accessible at where the accuntname is yur SacLink accunt ID. 9. Please make sure t Lg Out by clicking n the link at the tp f the SacLink Utilities page.

2 53 Creating Web Sites There are many different ways and prgrams t create web pages such as Dreamweaver and MS Frnt Page. Yu may use any f these prgrams t create the web pages. This handut has nly ne way f creating the web pages. If yu want t knw different ways t create the web pages, please talk t the instructr. 1. Create a dcument using any f the Micrsft Office prgrams (Wrd, Excel, r PwerPint), r pen any dcument yu have already created. Make sure yu have included sme hyperlinks in the dcument. If yu want t hyperlink t the HTML files in yur web page, the hyperlink address is urfilename.htm 2. Save the dcument in yur USB strage drive (r zip disk). 3. Click File and then select Save As 4. Click n the triangle arrw next t Save as Type: And then select Web Page (*.htm; *.html). 5. Navigate the saving lcatin t the Desktp 6. Please name yur main web site file as index.htm Yu can name ther web site using any name yu wish (e.g., newsletter.htm). Make sure yu include the extensin.htm at the end f yur file name. **Yu need t use nly the small letters withut any spaces when yu name yur files. 7. Click Save r OK. 8. Quit the Micrsft Office prgram yu were using. 9. Yu just created a web page. If yu want t see the web page, g t the desktp and duble click n the icn f the dcument yu just created. ** When yu save ne f the Micrsft dcuments int HTML file, yu may see a flder with same name. Fr example, if yu name yur file newsletter.htm, yu may see a flder name newsletter_files. This flder cntains all the pictures and ther infrmatin nt included in yur newsletter.htm file. Yu need t uplad this flder with yur newsletter.htm in rder t be able t see everything n the web page. Yu may nt see the newsletter_files if yu dn t have any pictures in yur dcument. 10. If yu want t edit the web page using any f the Micrsft Office prgrams such as MS Wrd, MS Excel, and MS PwerPint, pen the dcument yu have saved (nt the html file) frm step #2 abve and then make the changes as yu desire. Repeat the prcedures #4 thrugh #8 abve. 11. When yu are dne, delete the HTML files n the Desktp.

3 54 Uplading (FTP) yur HTML files t the Server (PC nly) FTP (File Transfer Prtcl) is a methd f transferring files frm ne cmputer t anther. Typically, FTP is used t transfer files frm a lcal cmputer where the user is wrking and uplading the files t a web server s the pages are psted t the Internet. FTP interface is available as a stand alne applicatin thrugh WS_FTP fr PC users. Yu need t have this prgram in yur cmputer in rder t uplad yur HTML files t the server. The WS_FTP is a free share prgram. Yu can dwnlad frm CSUS web site. The web address is ( e.htm) Or frm my web site ( dte330br.htm ) I. Setting up fr the first time 1. Run WS_FTP LE. The Sessin Prperties dialg bx will appear. Click New. 4. In the Hst Name/Address bx, type ftp.saclink.csus.edu fr SacLink Web pages. 5. Enter yur SacLink ID in the User ID bx. 6. Skip ver the Passwrd bx. Leave the ther bxes blank. Nte: Fr security reasns, the Passwrd bx has been skipped and will nt save yur passwrd with the sessin infrmatin. If yu chse Save Passwrd, anyne using yur cmputer can start WS_FTP, access yur Web Server accunt, and gain full access t yur Web files. 7. Click OK. 8. The Passwrd dialg bx will appear. Type yur passwrd and click OK. 9. The WS_FTP main windw pens and yu are nw ready t begin transferring files using WS_FTP. 2. Creating a sessin prfile saves yur settings. In the future yu need nly click the drp dwn arrw fr Prfile Name and select the name f the prfile yu created t retrieve yur settings. 3. In the Prfile Name bx, type a name fr this accunt such as SacLink.

4 55 II. Transferring files using WS_FTP 1. In the main windw f the FTP directry, the Lcal System sectin (left side) shws where yur files are stred n yur PC. The Remte Site sectin (right side f dialg bx) are the files f the Web Server directry. 2. It may be necessary t change the directry n the Remte Site t access yur Web server accunt. SacLink users will lg int their directry autmatically. The SacLink Web pages are lcated in the Web flder. Yu need t duble click and pen the flder stred n yur PC. Yu are nw ready t uplad yur files t the web server. 5. Using the muse, left click t select the directry r files yu want t transfer. *If yu want t select mre than ne file, use the standard Windws shift r ctrl key methd. T select tw r mre adjacent files, click the first file t select it, then press the shift key while yu click n the last file in the grup. T select tw t mre nn-adjacent files, click n the first file t select it, then press the ctrl key while yu click n each additinal file. 6. When transferring text based files with extensins such as.txt,.html,.htm,.dc, select ASCII as the transfer mde. When transferring graphic type files with extensins such as.jpg r.gif, select Binary as the transfer mde. 3. Click the ChgDir buttn lcated n the upper right crner f the Lcal System t get t the Web files stred n yur PC, flppy r zip disk. Yu can als navigate thrugh yur files by duble clicking the flder, directry r the green arrw at the tp f the listing t g back a directry. 4. At this pint, yu can view the cntents f yur directry under the Remte System sectin (right side f the dialg bx). The Lcal System sectin (left side) shws where yur Web files are 7. After selecting the desired files, click the transfer arrw buttn lcated between the Lcal System and Remte Site windws t transfer the files t the Web server. All f the selected files shuld nw be transferred. Imprtant Details t Nte: Yu wn t be able t delete the flder unless the flder is empty. Files transferred t yur Web server directry autmatically have the apprpriate read permissins set s thers can access yur Web pages. Yu will verwrite files f the same name. Files are active as sn as yu mve them t the Web Server.

The New Cnnectin dialg bx appears. 2. Click Cancel t clse the New Cnnectin dialg bx. 3. Chse New Shrtcut frm the Custmize menu. The Shrtcut Editr dialg bx appears. Nte: In lder versins f Fetch, this dialg bx may be called Bkmark Editr. 4. In the Name bx, type CSUS Web. 5. In the Type drp dwn list, select File. 6. In the Hst bx, type ftp.saclink.csus.edu fr SacLink persnal web pages. 7. Enter yur SacLink user name in the User ID bx. 8. Skip ver the Passwrd bx. Nte: Fr security reasns, yu shuld skip ver the Passwrd bx s that yu dn't save it with the sessin infrmatin. If yu save it, anyne culd start Fetch, access yur CSUS Web Server accunt, and gain full access t yur Web files. 9. In the Directry bx type yur CSUS Web directry path. * SacLink web pages are lcated in the Web flder. 10. Click OK. The Shrtcut Editr dialg bx clses. II. Cnnecting t FTP 1. Run Fetch. 2. T start a Fetch sessin, chse Open Shrtcut frm the File menu. Chse SacLink Persnal Web Page. Yu will be prmpted t enter yur passwrd.

6 57 3. Type in yur passwrd and click OK. Wait a few mments and yur cnnectin will be established shwing yur web files frm yur directry. 5. The Open dialg bx will appear fr Flders and files t uplad. 4. T transfer yur files chse Put Flders and Files... frm the Remte menu. 6. Chse the flder n yur Mac that cntain yur web files. Select a file and click the Add buttn r click the Add All buttn if yu want t transfer all files in the flder. Nte: Files that yu transfer shuld have names under eight characters, nt including extensin (i.e..htm r.jpg) and withut special characters (i.e.!, $, &). 7. When yu have selected all the files t transfer, click the Dne buttn. The Put Files dialg bx will pen.

7 58 8. Depending n which type f file yu are abut t transfer, yu will need t select the crrect Frmat frm the drp dwn list. Select Text t set the transfer mde fr transferring text files, such as.txt,.htm,.html, r.dat files. Select Raw Data t set the transfer mde fr transferring binary files, such as.gif,.jpg,.wav r.mp3 files. 9. Click OK. Wait a few mments and yur files will be transferred t the web server. Imprtant Details t Nte: Files transferred t yur Web server directry autmatically have the apprpriate read permissins set s thers can access yur Web pages. Yu will verwrite files f the same name. Files are active as sn as yu mve them t the Web Server. E-Prtfli Prject 1. Create a main web page (index.htm). The main page shuld have at least yur name and the CSUS web page disclaimer ( Yur Name takes full respnsibility fr the infrmatin psted. The infrmatin n this page represents that f Yur Name and nt that f Califrnia State University, Sacrament.). Yu shuld als have links frm yur main pages t yur ther pages (see belw fr the list f ther pages ) and ther links such as CSUS hme page. Make the web page lk as prfessinal as pssible such as justify the text and the backgrund, etc. 2. Here is the list f the ther pages. Yu are required t include all f these. Yu may add mre pages r links if yu desire. a) Resume b) Teaching Philsphy Statement c) Classrm Management Plan d) Sample Lessn Plan e) Sample Newsletter f) Sample Wrksheet g) Sample Multimedia Presentatin 3. Uplad everything t yur SacLink web page accunt. (If yu have any ther web server accunt such as AOL, yu may use it.) And then enable the web site fr public t view them. 4. When yu are cmpleted, yur hme page address t the instructr.

8 59 Uplading yur HTML files t the Server (Windw XP nly) Internet Explrer n Windw XP has a built in ftp capability. This makes ftp as simple as saving files int yur saving device. 1. Type ftp://webpages.csus.edu n the address bar n yur Internet Explrer. 4. Duble click and pen the web flder. 2. Yu will see a new windw asking fr yur username and passwrd. Use yur Sacklink accunt username and passwrd t lg n. 5. This is the area where yu can uplad yur HTML files. Just drag yur HTML files frm the desktp t this area. 3. Yu will see smething similar t the picture belw. Please d nt pen r delete any f the files.
