Terms and Definitions Access level Explanation An access level provides a user with the ability to retrieve information that is restricted to this access level. Introduction The goal of work package 5 within the R&D ACCESS Project is to create an infrastructure for collaborative cluster of excellences in form of a modular state-of-the-art Open Source Content Management System. Existing infrastructures such as from Design & Reuse, EuroTraining or the edaatlas from the project partners will be extended with a new approach by dedicated interfaces to allow information exchange. As a result the user will be able to get an overview of existing semiconductor design solutions that are spread over partner platforms without changing his access point. Projects will be enabled to add or enrich their R&D results outside of their consortia to dissemination platforms that are connected through the ACCESS interface. Last but not least R&D projects and centres of excellences will be attracted to extend their dissemination by the new collaborative interface to reach the ACCESS platform. (1) 2. Prototype Specification and Implementation After the project partners finished the specification, the general concept and the detailed specification all partners started the implementation of connecting interfaces on their pages. Figure 1: Concept of connecting interfaces ECN implemented the search prototype, which combines the specific interfaces to a combined approach: Search requests will be forwarded to each content container (as shown in Figure 1), while the results will be send back to the overall interface. Figure 2 shows the current search interface. The example search string vhdl is submitted to Design & Reuse, Eurotraining and edatools. After a short moment, the received answerss show up on the webpage. The search is done via full text search. Results present the live content of the search databases. No data is cached. This makes sure that no outdated or even deleted items will be shown.

4 Figure 2: Search interface Users can refine the presented search result for each platform by choosing one of the transmitted refinement categories. A refinement category is a suggested term, which is related to the search phrase, e.g. if you are searching for a course, you receive a list of countries, where this course takes place. (2) Furthermore results are structured. If a user clicks on the little cross, a tree structure of pre-defined refinement categories (like authors, location or providers) will open. This might help to jump directly to relevant search information. E.g. if one is searching for vhdl courses within germany, results will be faster found. An example of such expanded trees can be seen on Figure 3. Within each refinement category one can see the number of matches. Furthermore teaser-texts are presented to give a short overview if a result might be of interest. By clicking on Read more or the bold blue title the user will be redirected to the source. 5 Content can be contributed via 3. Conclusion and Next Steps (Prototype Verification and Validation) The R&D Project has successfully shown that an overall search is possible. The concept of refinement categories is implemented. The first prototype is online at In the next step refinement categories will be tested and evaluated by beta-tester. If other refinement categories tend to be of better usage for search, they will be adapted. Known issues needs to be dealt with: Adaption of the presentation of results. Similar results from the same source (like IP) will be grouped. Removal of the predefined (test) search string named bluetooth Hitting the Return key should have the same effect than clicking on the submit button. Right now Return doesn t work and the user has to click on the submit Button. Some search queries throw error messages. This will be fixed, of course.
