Features include Decade (1850s 2000s), ll Dates, etween, efre, and fter. TIP: remember nt all newspapers include archival cntent back t the 1850s. 3. Use additinal dvanced Search ptins (C) t use ther index search fields like Publicatin, rticle Type, and uthr. 4. fter making yur selectins, click the Search buttn (D). PrQuest Histrical Newspapers immediately searches the database fr dcuments matching yur search query and displays a list f matching dcuments in the frm f a results list (as discussed belw). Mre Search Features Keywrd searches aren t the nly search ptin. Yu can als chse t rwse Papers y Date (E), allwing yu t see all articles and headlines available n an imprtant day such as yur birthday. Featured rticles (E) shwcases a high-impact newspaper frnt page fr each day f the year. Clicking the article title r image launches the full article. Part 2: Review Yur Results List fter clicking the Search buttn, a results list page appears, summarizing yur search and listing thse dcuments that match yur search query. Results are listed in ldest first rder. The icns displayed underneath each dcument recrd represent these viewing frmats. Click a frmat icn (D) t view the frmat indicated, r click the article title. Use the checkbx (E) t add a dcument t a marked list (My List) fr later viewing, printing, and/r ing. Displays a brief citatin and abstract fr the article (bstract). Displays a scanned page f the article as it was riginally printed (rticle Image-PDF). dbe crbat Reader must be installed n yur cmputer t use this viewing frmat. e sure t install the latest versin f this free sftware. Part 3: Wrk With the Full Dcument T view an rticle Image-PDF fter clicking a viewing frmat frm the results list, the viewing frmat f that dcument appears. Use the rticle Image viewing frmat t enlarge r decrease a dcument s size by selecting an apprpriate frmat r fit icn (). fter examining the infrmatin, return t yur Search Results () list fr further explratin, r change the article frmat by selecting frm page map r citatin/abstract. Use yur muse t scrll ver the page and review the headlines n the page (). Yu can click any article frm the page map frmat t launch the article image-pdf f a specific headline. It s suggested that when viewing a PDF image, first click ne f the three fit buttns t view the change the PDF view t, frm left t right n the tlbar, ctual Size, Fit Page (8.5 X 11 Prtrait), r Fit Width (8.5 X 11 Landscape). Once the PDF image is easier t view, yu may click the Snapsht tl t turn yur cursr int a cpying + tl. t this pint, yu may simply click anywhere n the page image t cpy it in its entirety t yur clipbard fr easy pasting in a wrd prcessing dcument r graphics prgram, r click and drag yur muse ver a prtin f the page image and cpy nly that prtin t yur clipbard. Printing an rticle T print articles, yu must print frm within the dbe crbat Reader. Fllw these steps: View the article as usual within the dbe crbat Reader plug-in (within yur brwser windw.) The tlbars will vary, depending n which versin f the Reader sftware yu are using. s mentined abve, it s recmmended that yu install the latest versin f the free Reader sftware befre cntinuing: Check the image size f the article. Yu ll see the Print dialg bx. (Nte: The bx may lk slightly different if yu are using a different printer driver.) 2. Next t Page Scaling (), click the Shrink large pages ptin n the Print dialg bx. The article will reduce t fit the selected paper size. When yu select this ptin, the Print dialg bx will display the percentage f changes. (Dn t use this ptin f the dcument is significantly larger than yur paper.) 3. Set the print ptins in the Print dialg bx, then click OK. If the dcument is significantly larger than yur paper size: 1. Select the Snapsht Tl, then click and drag t select a smaller prtin f the page. 2. Click the dbe crbat Reader Print buttn. 3. Set the print ptins in the Print dialg bx, then click OK. 4. Repeat steps 1 thrugh 3 as many times as necessary, selecting different sectins f the larger image fr printing each time. If the dcument is smaller than yur paper size: 1. Click the dbe crbat Reader Print buttn. 2. Next t Page Scaling (), click the Fit t paper ptin n the Print dialg bx. The article will expand t fix the selected paper size. 3. T change the paper size (fr example, t print n legal size paper), click Prperties. Within the prperties dialg, select the desired paper size. 2. T change the page rientatin, click Prperties. Select the desired rientatin (landscape r prtrait.) 3. T center the page n the paper, check the ut-rtate and center pages ptin. 4. T enlarge an article/page map fr printing, click Expand small pages t paper size. The article will expand t fit the selected paper size. 5. T shrink an article/page map fr printing, select Shrink versized pages t paper size. The zm percentage will be displayed belw the print preview, n the bttm right f the windw. Part 5: rticle Types Use rticle type in dvanced Search t search fr keywrds in articles f a certain type. Feature, frnt page, and editrial article are checked by default. Try sme examples. 1.
