2 1. Go to Applications and select How to setup an Account NOTE: First time VersaMail is setup a message will populate asking if you want to continue with account setup. Select Continue 2. Open the menus by clicking on the top left hand side and select Accounts 3. Select Account Setup and select New The Accounts Setup window will display: a. Next to Account Name: box, type Work Mail b. Next to Mail Service: click on the drop down arrow and select Other a. Next to Protocol: click on the drop down arrow and select IMAP; then click on Next New window will display: a. Next to Username: enter your full address such as: jdoe@farmersagent.com b. Below the Password: box, enter your password account password, then click on OK c. Click on Next NOTE: When password is entered -Assigned- is displayed. d 4. New window will display: a. Next to Address: box your will Automatically prefill with what was entered as Username previously. b. Below Incoming Mail Server: type imap.postoffice.net c. Below Outgoing Mail Server: type smtp.postoffice.net d. Click on Next 5. New window will display indicating: Basic setup for your mail account is completed. Click on Advanced (Note: Advanced button is not displayed on screen shot) New Advanced window will display: a. Below Incoming Server Settings: Next to Port Number: box, enter 995; b. 3 6. New Advanced window will display: a. Below Outgoing Server Settings: Next to Port Number: box, enter 25 b. Place a check mark next to both settings: Use Secure Connection (SSL) & Use authentication (ESMTP) <when this option is checked a Username and Password display> c. Below Username: the entered previously should automatically prefill. d. Below Password: the box should display Assigned- Click on 1. Go to Applications and select To check options 2. Open the menus by clicking on the top left hand side; select Accounts 3. Select Account Setup 4. With the stylus select the account you need to check, then click on Edit In the Accounts Setup window review and correct the options: a. Account Name: <this can be anything the end user wants to call it> b. Mail Service: click on the drop down arrow and select the applicable option c. Click on Next Available options for Mail Service: - Other - Charter - Gmail - USA.net - Exchange Active Sync - Comcast - *Hotmail/MSN - Verizon DSL - SprintPCS - CompuServe - Juno - Yahoo! - AOL - Concentric - Mail.com - Apple.Mac - Covad - NetZero - AT&T Global - Cox Central - RCN - AT&T Worldnet - Cox East - SBC/Pacbell - Bell South - Cox West - SBC/Prodigy - Cablevision - EarthLink - Speakeasy 5. New Account Setup window will display: a. Below Username: enter the applicable address b. Below Password: enter the applicable password c. Click on Next 6. New window is displayed (it will be named with whatever Account Name it was given earlier): a. Below Address: the address that was entered previously will prefill automatically b. Below Incoming Mail Server: depending on the Mail Service that was selected, most will prefill with correct information c. Below Outgoing Mail Server: depending on the Mail Service that was selected, most will prefill with correct information d. Click on Next Created: / By: Alma Acosta 3
4 7. New window is displayed (it will be named with whatever Account Name it was given earlier): Click on Advanced 8. Advanced window will display: a. Next to Port Number: select appropriate port number b. Either select or leave blank: User Secure Connection (SSL) c. Either select or leave blank: User Authentication (APOP) d. Click on Next 9. New Advanced window will display: a. Below Outgoing Server Settings: enter the appropriate port number next to Port Number: field b. Either select or leave blank: User Secure Connection (SSL) c. Either select or leave blank: User authentication (ESMTP) NOTE: If you do place a check mark next to User authentication (ESMTP) the Username: and Password: information will display automatically, already prefilled, simply click on Done How to Wake up the Screen When your device screen is off, and end user needs to use the device: 1. Press and release Power/End 2. Press Center to turn off Keyguard 3. If end user wants to turn off the screen, press and release Power/End NOTE: If end user is in the middle of a setup or update and screen turns off to bring it up to the last selection entered press otherwise all that was entered will be lost. Create your password b. Record your name announcement and your greeting c. Choose whether to activate Skip Pass Code, which lets you access your voic without entering your password. 6 How to Retrieve Voic Messages 1. Press Phone 2. Press and hold 1 to dial the voic system <or> select Voic button 3. Enter the voic password and press # sign How to Access Voic Messages from Another Phone 1. On another phone dial the palm pilot number 2. Press * (option + Z) when the voic answer 3. Enter the password and press # (option + B). How to Forward Calls 1. Press Phone 2. Open the menus 3. Select Options, then Phone Preferences 4. Select the Call forwarding pick list: - If the forward number appears in the pick list, select the number - If the forwarding number does not appear a. Select Edit numbers, b. Select New c. Enter the pertaining 10 digit number that end user elects to forward the calls to d. Click on OK e. Select the number from the Call forwarding pick list 5. Select OK 5. Call the Treo device to confirm call forwarding is active. How to Create Favorite Buttons 1. Press Phone 2. Use the 5-way to select a blank favorite button 3. Select the Type pick list and select either: Call Log, Dial Pad, Contacts, Applications, Messages, or Web Link 4. Enter a label for the favorite and enter any other pertinent information on the screen. 5. (Optional) Enter a Quick Key, a letter which end user can press and hold from the Main, Dial Pad, or Favorites view of the Phone applications to open the favorite 6. 7 How to Setup Date and Time 1. Go to Applications and select Prefs 2. Select Date & Time 3. To manually set the date and time, remove the check mark next to: Get date & time from mobile network box. 4. Select Date: field and enter correct date 5. Select Time: field and enter correct time 6. Below Set Location: field click on the arrow, a list will open. Select the city that is in your time zone. 7. Click on NOTE: If the city end user resides in is not listed; the city must be added by doing the following: a. Select Edit List b. Select Add c. Select the pertaining city in the time zone to be applied d. Select OK e. If required, modify any setting in the Edit Location dialog box f. Click on OK How to Align the Screen If end user notices when he/she selects an option and another one is activated instead the device screen needs to be readjusted. 1. Go to Applications and select Prefs 2. Select Touchscreen 3. Follow the onscreen instructions to tap the screen where indicated with the stylus 4. Select How to Adjust the Brightness 1. If the display is too light or too dark the brightness can be adjusted as needed. 2. Press Option, then press Backlight 3. Press Left or Right to adjust the brightness 4. 8 1. Go to Applications and select Tasks 2. Select New to create a new task How to Add a Task NOTE: To enable you to key this using the stylus versus keying it manually, a. Click on Tasks b. Click on Edit c. Click on Keyboard d. Keyboard window will display. Use the stylus to key in pertinent information 3. When information has been fully entered click on Done 4. With the stylus click on the line next to the task and enter a description of the task. End user can also setup: Task Priority, Due Date, etc 1. Select the desired task to be assigned details 2. Select Details Set any of the following: a. Priority to setup priority number for this task (1 being the Most important) b. Category assigns the task to a specific category c. Due Date sets the due date for the task. Select the Due Date pick list and select the pertinent due date. d. Alarm sets an alarm for this task e. Repeat indicates whether the task occurs at regular intervals and how often it repeats. When you check off a repeating task, the next instance of this task automatically appears in your task list. f. Private indicates whether the task is private. Check this box to mark this task private. g. stores additional text end user wants to associate with the task. 5. Click on OK 1. Go to Applications and select 2. When the Day view appears press (to move to the left) or (to move to the right) until the desired day is selected 3. Select New 4. Using the keyboard or stylus enter the starting hour and minute for the event. How to Create an Event in the Calendar Created: / By: Alma Acosta 8
9 5. Select the End Time box, select the ending hour and minute for the event. 6. (Optional) To assign a time to the even select drop down arrow next to No time zone; select the applicable city 7. Select OK 6. Enter a description for the event How to Create an Alert Event in the Calendar 1. Go to Applications and select Calendar 2. Within the Calendar select the applicable event 3. Select Details 4. Place a check mark next to the Alarm box 5. Click on the drop down arrow next to the box, select the appropriate minutes, hours, or days before the event the end user would like to receive the alarm. 7. Click on OK How to Lock the Screen If end user does not turn off the touch-sensitive feature do the following: 1. Go to Applications and select Prefs 2. Select Keyguard 3. Check one or both of the following boxes: Incoming calls received: Disables the screen when the phone rings. The user must: a. Use the 5-way to select the onscreen b. Answer and Ignore buttons, or press Talk to answer the call c. Power/End to ignore the call When on a call: Disables the screen after the call is answered. The user must: a. Use the 5-way to avoid accidentally pressing onscreen buttons while end user is holding the device near their ear to speak. 4. Select Created: / By: Alma Acosta 9
10 How to Browse the Web In order to access the web the end user must first activate Sprint PCS Vision data Services. 1. Go to Applications, to confirm data services are available check at the top right hand side either or icon should display. (If either icon is not displayed there is no internet connection available.) 2. Select 3. A Connect to the Internet window will display, asking: To complete this request, you must connect to the Internet. Would you like to connect now? Click on Yes Tip: If you do not want to this message to appear again. Place a check mark next to box: Never ask me again. How to Create a Bookmark on the Web 1. Go to Applications and select 2. Go to the webpage end user wants to bookmark by: Click on, a Go to Web Page window opens. The current webpage that the palm pilot is on will display. a. Click on Clear, to delete the highlighted webpage address b. With the stylus highlight start of the URL web page and press on the keyboard c. Select the appropriate start of the URL link address: / <Click on: > More Index.html.htm.co.uk d. Type the rest of the webpage address. 1. Either use the keyboard and enter it manually < or > 2. 11 How to Edit or Delete a Bookmark on the Web Browser 1. Go to Applications and select 2. Click on Bookmarks view 3. Click on menus 4. Select Edit Bookmarks 5. Select the applicable bookmark user wants to edit or delete; 6. Enter the desired selection. a. Either move the webpage to a different are by dragging it with the stylus b. Click on the applicable web page and select Delete ; A Delete Bookmark window will display with question: Delete bookmark? Click on OK 7. Click on OK How to Customize the Web Browser 1. Go to Applications and select 2. Click menus 3. Click Options 4. Click Preferences The Page tab contains the following: - Start with: indicates which view is displayed - Home Page: indicates which web page is set when web browser is opened - Restore Defaults: resets the home page to the original Sprint PCS Vision home page if it was changed. - Show Address Bar: indicates whether the Web address appears in Page view. When the address bar is visible, you can select the pick list next to it to go to a previously viewed page or enter a URL directly from Page view. Select General tab and modify the following options: - Auto-complete: indicates whether the Web browser suggests text, based on your previous entries, when end user enters information. - Disable cookies: indicates whether Web sites can store personalized information on the Treo device. Some sites do not work properly if this option is selected. - Disabled Javascript: bypasses JavaScript elements on the Web pages that are viewed. me sites do not work properly if this option is selected. - Tap and Drag: indicates whether dragging the stylus selects text or scrolls through the content of the page. - Normal mode/fast mode: indicates whether end user wants to hide selected items so that Web pages load faster. When this option is selected Fast Mode sets the following options: - Disable cascading style sheets: indicates whether style sheets are applied when Created: / By: Alma Acosta 11
12 the web page loads. When style sheets are disabled, page downloads faster, but may lose some of the formatting. - Don t download images! Indicates whether images appear when Web pages are loaded. If end user selects not to view images, images can still be displayed by tapping and holding the placeholder box on the Web page with the stylus. Select Advanced tab and modify the following options: - Set memory limit for storing pages: sets the amount of memory used for the cache. Pages are cached so they load faster the next time the website is viewed. - Cookies: indicates how much memory is being used by cookies. To free up this memory, select Clear Cookies. - Cache: indicates how much memory is being used by your cache to store recent pages and history. To free up memory, select Clear Cache. - Clear cache on exit: indicates whether the cache clears each the Web browser is closed. - Set Proxy: sets up a proxy server to access the Internet. If the connection requires a proxy server, the internet service provider needs to be contacted. - Set Proxy: setups up a proxy server to access the Internet. If the connection requires a proxy server, end user needs to contact the Internet Service provider, or IT administrator for this information.
