1 INTRODUCTION Office More Skills 11 Capture a Screen with the Snipping Tool The Snipping Tool is a Windows Vista program that creates screen captures. A screen capture is a picture of your computer screen, a window, or a selected region saved as a file that can be printed or shared electronically. To complete this activity, you will need the following folder: Introduction folder You will save your file as: i_snip_your_name 1. If you are saving your work on a USB flash drive, be sure that it is inserted into your computer. 2. Click the Start button, and then click the Computer command. 3. In the displayed Computer folder window, in the Folder List, expand the drive and folders in which you are saving your work, and then click your Introduction folder. 4. 2 5. Display the Start menu.point to All Programs, click the Accessories folder, and then click Snipping Tool. If a message displays asking if you want to add the Snipping Tool to the Quick Launch Toolbar, click No. 6. In the displayed Snipping Tool program, click the New button arrow, and then compare your screen with Figure 2. The Snipping Tool is used to create four types of screen captures as summarized in the table in Figure 3. Captures a rectangular region drawn with your mouse. Captures the window clicked on with your mouse. Captures the entire screen including the taskbar. 7. In the displayed New menu, click Full-screen Snip, and then compare your screen with Figure 4. The Snipping Tool window displays the screen capture. In the screen capture of the Content pane, use the mouse to draw a circle around the file i_cypress_salon_your_name. 9. In the toolbar, click the Highlighter button. In the screen capture of the Folders list, drag through your Introduction folder. 10. Compare your screen with Figure 5. If necessary, click the Eraser button and then use the mouse to erase your original circle or highlight, and then try again. 4 11. Click the Save Snip button. In the displayed Save As dialog box, navigate to your Introduction Chapter folder. 12. Click in the File name box, and then using your own name, type i_snip_your_name and then press J. 13. Close the Snipping Tool mark-up window. In the Introduction folder window, doubleclick i_snip_your_name to open the file, and then compare your screen with Figure 6. In Figure 6, the Snip is opened in Windows Photo Gallery. Your computer may be configured to open the file in a different program.
