3 What s New VMware EVO:RAIL Release EVO:RAIL Release cntains the fllwing enhancement: Supprt fr VMware vsphere Lyalty Prgram EVO:RAIL Release 1.2 intrduces supprt fr the VMware vsphere Lyalty Prgram. The VMware vsphere Lyalty Prgram allws custmers t apply their vsphere Enterprise Plus licenses t their EVO:RAIL appliance(s). This allws custmers t preserve their existing investment in VMware sftware, reducing the verall cst f an EVO:RAIL appliance. Custmers with licenses btained thrugh Enterprise Licensing Agreements, OEM partners, distributin r ther resale channels are eligible. Fr vsphere with Operatins Management Enterprise Plus, vclud Suite and Hrizn Suite licenses. Please cntact yur Sales Representative fr mre details. Fr detailed infrmatin see VMware vsphere Lyalty Prgram Frequently Asked Questins at: VMware EVO:RAIL Release EVO:RAIL Release cntains the fllwing enhancements: Increased Scalability EVO:RAIL is nw scalable t 8 EVO:RAIL appliances per cluster, fr a ttal f 32 server ndes. This effectively dubles maximum supprted scale fr CPU, memry, and strage. It will prvide the ability t supprt: Up t 800 general purpse server Virtual Machines (VMs) Up t 2000 VMware Hrizn View VMs EVO:RAIL expansin is always per appliance yu cannt add individual ndes t a cluster. Imprved Hardware Mnitring The updates t the EVO:RAIL Management interface ffer an imprved lk int yur hardware's health status. Custmers are able t see the status f every nde in every appliance and mnitr HDDs, SSDs, NICs, and ESXi bt devices. Serviceability Autmatin The EVO:RAIL Management interface nw autmates the Hardware Replacement Prcess fr HDDs, SSDs, and 10 GbE NICs. ESXi bt device replacement is nw semi-autmated. Cnfiguratin Validatin Deeper cnfiguratin validatin is prvided t address cmmn errrs while cnfiguring r adding an appliance. This validatin verifies that: All hsts are able t cmmunicate with each ther n a link-lcal netwrk. Only the primary ESXi hst is running vcenter Server. Only tw cnfigured prt grups exist, ne fr EVO:RAIL and ne fr the vcenter netwrk. All Qualified EVO:RAIL Partners (QEPs) Slutin VMs are cnfigured prperly. An upladed JSON cnfiguratin file is valid and any incrrect fields are highlighted in EVO:RAIL Cnfiguratin. EVO:RAIL CUSTOMER RELEASE NOTES 1.2/ 2

4 Supprt fr Mixed CPU Clusters EVO:RAIL nw supprts mixing Ivy Bridge (2620v2) and Haswell (2620v3) CPUs in the same EVO:RAIL cluster. This nly applies t EVO:RAIL appliances that are initially built with Release and later. EVO:RAIL appliances that are updated frm Release 1.0.x will nt autmatically be enabled. Fllw the Enable EVC instructins prvided. Dcumentatin Changes Extensive dcumentatin changes have been made based n feedback. The updated dcumentatin includes bth Release 1.1 and 1.2. The riginal EVO:RAIL User Guide has been expanded and split int three dcuments (Netwrk, Initial Cnfiguratin, and Management & Maintenance). Internatinalizatin VMware EVO:RAIL is available in the fllwing languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Krean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditinal Chinese. Installatin This sftware is nly fr use by QEPs in an integrated hardware, sftware, and supprted hypercnverged infrastructure appliance. This release includes bth updated binaries and updated dcumentatin as described belw. Release Cntents The nly cmpnent that has changed fr Release 1.2 is the EVO.RAIL engine. The files yu will need t dwnlad are the EVO:RAIL ffline bundle and the EVO:RAIL Appliance RPM. Prduct Supprt Ntices This sftware is supprted thrugh QEPs. Netwrk Cnfiguratin cannt be changed with the EVO:RAIL interface after initial cnfiguratin. If changes are required, cntact yur QEP fr an appliance reset. Knwn Issues and Limitatins The knwn issues are gruped as fllws: Update Cnfiguratin Management/Maintenance Miscellaneus Fr an updated list f knwn issues g t the VMware Knwledge Base (KB), and select VMware EVO:RAIL under the Prducts pull dwn menu. See KB article Cnfiguratin EVO:RAIL cnfiguratin fails when there is a time mismatch between the appliance and the NTP Server. ( ) The EVO:RAIL cnfiguratin fails arund the 40% prgress mark with the errr message: EVO:RAIL was nt able t cnfigure Virtual Center Server Try again des nt reslve the issue. The prblem ccurs when the time f the vcenter Server is incrrect and the NTP server is cnfigured by EVO:RAIL. Wrkarund: There is n wrkarund at this time. An appliance reset is necessary. After the reset, the time set n the vcenter Server shuld be verified that it is the crrect time. If yu are using Just G Cnfiguratin and the prgress bar remains at 0%, this culd represent a netwrking prblem, a manufacturing prblem, r a prduct prblem. ( ) EVO:RAIL CUSTOMER RELEASE NOTES 1.2/ 5
