10 Managing networks with imc BIMS CPE devices in a WAN feature large quantity and dynamic IP addresses. Therefore, imc BIMS uses the OUI and serial number to uniquely identity a CPE device. To manage a CPE device in a WAN with imc BIMS, first complete these operations in the imc BIMS system: Configure system settings, add CPE authentication users, and add the CPE device. Then, log in to the CPE device, configure CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP) parameters, which must be the same as those configured in imc BIMS. After the CPE device configuration is complete, and the CPE device actively accesses imc BIMS, imc BIMS can manage it. You can manage the actively connected devices by their privilege, back up their configurations, and deploy the configuration file and device software for them. The following sections describe a typical imc BIMS configuration procedure. Log in to imc BIMS as an admin, and then perform the following configurations. System settings System settings needed include default polling time, periodic inform interval, device access parameters, CPE device adding policy, and common password. imc BIMS provides default settings for some parameters, and you can modify them as needed. Log in to imc BIMS, and then click the System tab to enter the page shown in Figure 6. 11 Figure 7 System Settings The following describes the system settings: File Server Parameters: Set the file server status, enabled or disabled. In a NAT environment, you can enable the file server function to perform device backup and deployment operations. When the file server is enabled, the IP address of the file server must be configured. Default Polling Interval: Interval for imc BIMS to poll the connection status of devices. If any device is found unreachable, imc BIMS changes the status of the device. Periodic Inform Interval: Default interval for the device to access imc BIMS. The device actively reports its current status when accessing imc BIMS. Device Access Parameters: Username and password used by imc BIMS to connect to a CPE device. imc BIMS can actively connect to the device only if the username and password are the same as those for the CPE to access imc BIMS. A newly added CPE device needs to use the username and password when accessing imc BIMS. CPE Device Adding Policy: Specifies whether to automatically add CPE devices that actively access imc BIMS Common Password: If the username and password used by imc BIMS to connect to a CPE device are not the same as those for the CPE to access imc BIMS, common password authentication is enabled. The common password is bims by default, and you can change it as needed. 7

12 Click OK to complete your configuration. Adding CPE authentication users CPE authentication user information corresponds to the username and password of the Auto-Configuration Server (ACS), namely, the imc BIMS server. imc BIMS provides a default CPE authentication user, and you can add CPE authentication users as needed. A white screen appeared suddenly during operation. What shall I do? The page does not respond when being closed in IE 6.0 SP2. 1. Start IE and select Tools > Internet Options. 2. Select the General tab, and then click Settings. 3. Select Always open pop-ups in a new window in the When a pop-up is encountered: area. This is a rare problem caused by IE incompatibility and resolution errors. From the right-click menu, select Refresh to refresh the page. This is due to an inherent defect in the IE. This problem does not exist in IE SP 1, IE SP 3, or Firefox. The cause is that IE has a higher security level by default in a fresh OS. I failed to log in to the system through IE running on a newly installed Windows OS. What shall I do? When using Firefox to access the imc BIMS system, what operations should be avoided 1. Set the security level to Medium. Start IE and select Tools > Internet Options. Select the Security tab, and then click Custom Level. In the popup dialog box, set the security level to Medium. 2. 47 When some commands configured in the Execute Command After Export field of the data export function were executed, the CPU utilization kept high for a long time. Why? Solution: Make sure that the commands have no GUIs included, are executed at the background, and can automatically exit after execution. When imc BIMS runs for a period of time, the memory utilization becomes extremely high and cannot recover. What shall I do? Solution: You can solve the problem by changing the maximum buffer size for the SQL server. Do the following: Run the setsqlservermaxmem.bat script in the installation directory\client\bin directory. The parameters are as follows: -server IP address: IP address of the server. This is an optional parameter. By default, the IP address of the current PC is displayed. -sapwd password: Password of the sa user. This is a required parameter. -maxmem maxmem: Maximum buffer size to change, in MB. This is an optional parameter. By default, the current buffer size is displayed. Suppose that the installation directory is G:\Program Files\iMC. To set the buffer size of the database to 1024 MB, run the setsqlservermaxmem -server sapwd sa -maxmem 1024 command in the G:\Program Files\iMC\client\bin directory. Note that: The buffer size in actual use may be greater than that you configured because the database itself uses some buffer. The preceding configurations become effective after you reboot the database. Can I modify the system time when imc BIMS is running? Solution: You are not recommended to manually modify the system time when imc BIMS is running. If you do so, data confusion or process errors may occur. If imc BIMS process errors are caused by system time modification, restart imc BIMS-related processes (including the Intelligent Deployment Monitoring Agent and the H3C imc Server services). When I try to log in to imc BIMS through the management PC, the system displays an insufficient system resource error. What shall I do? Solution: You can solve the problem by changing the Java heap size of the system. Do the following: The Java heap size is in the range of 256 to 1024 MB. You can change the Java heap size to 1024 MB, for example in a 32-bit operating system. Table 4 lists different Java heap sizes specific to the number of online operators in a 64-bit operating system. Table 4 Parallel table of online operator numbers and foreground configurations Nodes Online operators Java heap size 0 to GB 200 to GB 500 to GB 43
