Strand Lighting Palette v3.4.2 Software Release Notes June 2007 Palette/Rack Palette/Light Palette Series Consoles Bulletin No: Introduction This document details changes to the Strand Lighting Palette OS software, for use on the Strand Lighting Palette, Light Palette and Rack Palette series of consoles. This software may be downloaded from the Strand Lighting website If you require assistance or have questions about upgrading your console, please contact your nearest Strand Lighting Authorized Service Centre. Verifying your current software version At any time, you may wish to verify what software version that you are running on the console. This can easily be done from within the Strand Lighting Palette software. To do this, select the Help drop down on the tool bar and select About Palette. This will list the current software versions for the User Interface, Engine and also the software version that the show was recorded in. Console Control Panel installation. 1) Download the NewShell.5.3.exe software from the Strand Lighting web site and save onto a USB memory key (a spare USB key is provided with the console for your convenience). 2) Start up your Palette software and place the USB key containing the software into the front USB port. 3) Press the Control Panel Softkey [S4] to bring up the control panel, and open up the Windows Explorer tool. 4) Select the USB Key connected to the front of the console (Normally the F: drive) and drag the NewShell.5.3.exe file to the Public D: drive. (note: you may need to use Copy and Paste in some cases to achieve this) 5) Navigate to the Public D: drive and verify that the software has been placed in the root of the D: drive and not in any other location. If it is not in the correct place, repeat step 4 until it is. 6) Close the Windows Explorer application, the Console software and shutdown the console. 7) Remove the USB key from the front of the console and power up the console again. The console will power up and detect the new software and will automatically install the new version. Once this is completed and the console has started, proceed with the Console Software installation below. Console Software installation. 1) Download the Palette342.exe software from the Strand Lighting web site and save onto a USB memory key (a spare USB key is provided with the console for your convenience). 2) Start up your Palette software and place the USB key containing the software into the front USB port.
3) Press the Control Panel Softkey [S4] to bring up the control panel, and open up the Windows Explorer tool. 4) Select the USB Key connected to the front of the console (Normally the F: drive) and drag the Palette340.exe file to the Public D: drive. Please Note that the console MUST be powered off, as new USB Firmware is being loaded in this process. 7) Remove the USB key from the front of the console and power up the console again. The console will power up and detect the new software and will install the new version. During the installation process, it is possible that the Windows Firewall that is installed by default on the console, will give you a warning about this software. You should select OK to this warning. Note: this warning only appears briefly on the screen of the console before the Palette OS starts. Therefore you may not have sufficient time to press the OK button. Do not worry, this warning will remain on the screen behind the Palette application and you can minimize or close Palette to access it. Off Line Editor Software installation. 1) Download the PaletteOLE3.4.2.exe software from the Strand Lighting web site and save onto your Windows XP machine. 2) Launch the file by double clicking and follow the on screen instructions. (note you only need to install the USB drivers, if you wish to connect the Palette USB panels to your PC.) Palette Series DMX Hardware. As part of the v3.4.x software update, new firmware is loaded into the USB hardware of the Palette console. This will enable the second DMX port. The second DMX output is on the 6 pin XLR connector labeled AUX on the rear of your console. Pin Outs for the Aux connector are as follows: Pin Function DMX Pin 1 Ground 1 Ground 2 10V Not Used 3 Data + 3 Data + 4 Data - 2 Data - 5 RS232 - Not used 6 RS232 - Not used

February New Features Playback Masters of the Light Palette series may now be configured as Submasters Multiple networked consoles on one system supported (New Control Panel needed to launch Remote Sessions) Remote control of desks using off-line software on PC Allow click and drag movement of 5x5 popups [#] [S2-Pan] [ENTER] syntax will knock out Position family attributes (or Color, Gobo etc.), similar to how the [#] [@] [ENTER] syntax knocks out intensity of a channel, Level Match on sub masters stops levels from slamming when the hardware is not in sync with virtual or other sub master faders (mismatch levels are shown with blinking LED on hardware and pink bubble for virtual Subs) When loading cues in Bind using Blue Box, what used to be the LOADED status bubble now better describes what is really happening. The cues are actually in PREVIEW as the attributes are shown in appropriate colors, not Red Deltas. Only changes you make will be in marked in Red Deltas. Changes By default, SMPTE column now appears after Cue number rather than at far right hand side Dotted lines in Attribute Grid make reading large rigs easier Colors and icons for tracking attribute values in Blind Venetian Blind effect now blacks out all fixtures November LightPalette Series of Consoles introduced. Range includes, Light Palette classic, Light Palette Live, and Light Palette VL. Off Line Editor Introduced. Console Help files now seen when using help. Command lines starting with [CUE], [LOOK] and [GROUP] are now permissible (i.e. [CUE] [1] [REC]) Single and Two Digit entry modes are alternate options to the Enter syntax The Thru-On syntax is accessible by typing [SHIFT+THRU]. Also [1] [NEXT] [NEXT]... or [1] [PREV] [PREV]... selects ranges of fixtures Effects behave better when backing up into cues that start effects Added Rem Dim tool Added LowLight functionality on Light Palette range. Ability to adjust the system's background and foreground colors On Light Palette, the dedicated UP and DOWN buttons on the left most side of the desk navigate you through cue list pages.
Light Palette MIDI/SMPTE Interface supports sending and receiving SMPTE and sending and receiving Midi Show Control. MIDI Notes are interfaced by patching a Variable Page using the M# syntax for MIDI channel #'s 1 through 16. Tracking Backup allows second console or laptop running PalettePC to track the main machine and automatically take control in the event of failure User Interface Macros allow the user to write Scripts to perform repetitive functions Many Scripts have been added to facilitate automation (patching, recording of looks and cues) from third party developers Strand Shownet and Artnet protocols supported as well as patching the console's output within the XDMX grand universe July Initial Launch Software Palette Series of Consoles introduced. Range includes basicpalette, presetpalette, classicpalette, and subpalette. Effects Press [S10] for new Intensity FX, or Shift Double Press Attribute Softkey to add an FX to a attribute. Playback Pages enable easy management of Multiple Cue List shows. Displaying the Playback Bubbles and left clicking on them executes a GO whereas right clicking on them gives multiple options including actions such as Release Cue List Time Events and Astronomical Events added. Palette has longitude and latitude values for nearly two thousand cities around the world, allowing it to determine when the sunrises and sets in your vicinity. Independent Timing for every attribute of every fixture in every cue possible with Time display. Access Time display by pressing [SHIFT] [EDIT] Automatic Recovery of entire stage look before DMX outputs are enabled upon re-boot in the event of failure on a single machine system Effect and Time masks added to Attribute filter dialog box for all operations such as Record, Copy, Update and Load Direct key entry for Moving Light Attributes in the Command Line (i.e., Fixture 1 Thru 10 Pan -90 To 90) The Fan Tool allows you to evenly spread out attribute values without doing the math. Fanning options include Center, Right, Left, Ends, Random, Random Positive, Sine and Tangent. You can also repeat the fan throughout your selection set The Color Picker tool allows you to graphically choose colors for RGB and CMY type fixtures. Use the supplied images or add your own by placing them in the same folder as your show file. Second Monitor support for moving light attributes Last Action Editing is available in Hardware Setup. This option does not release attributes to their default level, but rather leaves them static and ready to be re-asserted by advancing cues. Additional A/B and C/D option in Hardware Setup to make faders act as Captured In and Release Time. Very handy for busking a show live New Cues are recorded with Priority 10 whereas new Looks are recorded with Priority 9 and HTP is not the default resolution. This means, if both cues and looks are set to use the same priority, a cue can steal away from an active look
Default Look Pages are added to new show files and automatically assigned to the Button Array. Virtual 5X5 Button Arrays are accessible as Tools. Hardware Status bubble pop-up shows advanced authorizations; processor info and memory size Addition profiles added to Patch By Output The FILE OPEN menu allows you to open Strand Palette (*.spf) show files. Fixture Grid Toolbar changed to add Update button next to Record button; Running Effects grid toggle; and new Levels and Times tabs added Added additional trigger event when both external triggers are closed Console Hardware Setup allows you to mute QWERTY keyboard events for controlling Cue Lists and enable the Browser Control so you can author your own graphical interface to Marquee that you launch with any web browser on your network. Also included is a method of changing the DMX flavor for better compatibility with legacy devices Large moving light pop-ups are mapped to softkeys 1 through 12 rather than only having softkeys 1 and 2 scroll the pop-up list up and down The Macro Editor has been expanded to include scripting that gives you the ability to write entire programs using the Lua language. This advanced feature can be used for total show control and architectural applications Telnet and RS232 bi-directional communication allows further interconnectivity with Marquee for show control applications Variables display has been added to facilitate programming in show control environments. Macro Buttons no longer hold their own macros. The pull-down list to the left of the Virtual Macro Button display navigates you through Variable Pages and the buttons take on the characteristic of the variables (such as Momentary, Toggle or Radio). You can right click on a virtual macro button to add actions directly to the corresponding variable.
