NEW -- NEW -- NEW - READ THE 'Q-DB SECTION QUICK LIST - NEW FEATURE as of v The basic Quick List functions are really easy to use. You may well find them one of the most useful 'extras' the program has to offer. With a single click you can store any frequency into an interactive list. Clicking on an entry in that list immediately transfers that frequency to the AR-DV1, together with its associated 'MODE' and 'STEP'. As you are 'surfing' a Band, whether changing the frequencies manually (in a VFO or during a Search), you will naturally find some signals which are of temporary interest, however as you are in 'surfing' mode and still want to look for more. Before 'Q-List' and 'Q-Search' you had to either try to remember that frequency, or if there are several, even write them down. Not easy for AM or FM signals, but for USB/ LSB or even CW a lot of work is then involved. The QUICK LISTS fill that gap, and takes all the hard work out of it. One of those 'However did I survive without it' tools in fact. The easiest way to explain how to use this is by an example. a. Select a Medium Wave band. b. Tune to a good signal. Now RIGHT CLICK on the VFOA button.
c. The Q-LIST window opens, and that frequency appears in it. d. Find another frequency. Right click the VFO button again, another entry e. Repeat that several times. f. If you want to open a QUICK LIST, just right click on the 'A-STORE' button, or the HIDE button to close it.. Try that now. g. Open the Q-List. Click on any entry. The frequency is immediately transferred to VFOZ The LISTS sort themselves by frequencies, low to high. If you accidentally select the same frequency again, the program recognises this, and does not create a duplicate entry. There is no limit to the number of entries, although creating too many defeats the object of these functions. The program saves your current lists, and restores them the next time you run the program. There is a CLEAR button if you want to empty the list at any time. Highlight an entry and click 'CLEAR ITEM' to remove a single line.. QUICK LISTS can prove very useful for any frequency or mode on any Band. If the user is surfing for USB or LSB signals, and finds a few interesting ones for example, then the Q-List is ideal. Right click the VFOA button, store the signal in the List, then go back to it whenever you like during that Session. No fiddly re-tuning to get the Side Band sounding right. If the Q-SEARCH window is opened and 'SEARCH AUTO' is 'ON' then the program automatically adds a frequency to the Q-Search list during Searches. Duplicate frequencies are ignored, however their latest time/date stamp is updated. The purpose of Q-SEARCH is to find active frequencies and log them, so when it finds an active frequency it pauses for a few seconds then the search continues. A frequency is only added to the list if it has held the squelch open for at least 3 seconds. This minimises the chance of 'false positives' being logged.
The 'Q-LIST' and 'Q_SEARCH' windows can be closed by pressing the HIDE button. Rightclicking the 'A-STORE' button opens them again. IF 'SEARCH-AUTO' is set to 'ON', and a new frequency is found and added to the list, the 'Q-SEARCH' window automatically becomes visible. The 'Q-SEARCH' has several extras available mainly designed for Commercial, Government or Military operators.. QUICK SEARCH FREQUENCY 'SCAN' If you click the 'SCAN' button, so it is 'ON', the program will SCAN the Q-SEARCH frequencies shown in the list. This is not the same as the Memory Scan function. The frequencies have not been saved to the radio's memory. If a frequency becomes 'active', the radio and program will wait for a short time, then continue scanning. The pause time is determined by the SCAN DELAY (main window DELAY button), and can be set from '0' to '9' seconds. If you want to just listen to that frequency, then click its entry in the 'Q-SEARCH' list, and it will be transferred to VFOZ. The 'Q' functions are designed for the real time monitoring of a small number of frequencies that are of interest during that session, and not as a substitute for Memory frequencies.
SAVE ARCHIVE If you click the 'SAVE ARCHIVE' button, the Q-SEARCH details you have obtained are saved to a date/time stamped file. This lets you quickly see if a frequency or frequencies were 'active' previously, and when. VIEW ARCHIVE Click the 'VIEW ARCHIVE' button, and a list of those recorded files is displayed. You may clear the entire list, or an individual item as described above. If you click on (select) a file the details of the 'Q-SEARCH' for that session are shown.
For ease of reference, you may append 4 characters to the end of the Archive file name (see above). Click on 'RENAME ARCHIVE', then enter up to 4 characters (max). The Archive is changed in the list, and the file name is saved. You may also select and delete an archive using the 'DELETE ARCHIVE' button. Clicking the 'EXIT ARCHIVE' button returns you to the 'Q-SEARCH' window. IMPORT ARCHIVE If you wish you may import a previous Archive, and its frequencies can be scanned. The window above shows you what is contained in the saved file. Click the 'IMPORT ARCHIVE' button and the SEARCHitems.txt file you examined remains highlighted. Click on that entry and its is imported as the current 'Q-SEARCH' list
SAVE TO MEMORY The 'SAVE TO MEM' button lets you transfer a 'Q-LIST' or 'Q-SEARCH' frequency to a memory channel and store it in the AR-DV1. The button background changes to 'red' to show the function is active. 1. Click the 'SAVE TO MEM' button; 2. Click the frequency you wish to transfer; 3. The 'M-BANK' window opens, and you will see the Frequency and Mode have been transferred. This is only an indication that the process has begun; 4. NOW choose a Memory Bank; 5. When the details of the channels have finished loading, select the Memory Channel you want to store the new frequency in; You can select an empty channel, or over-write an existing one; 6. At this stage the parameters of the Memory Channel you selected are shown, so the new frequency and mode you want to add are no longer displayed; 7. In either the 'Q-LIST' or 'Q-SEARCH' window, click the frequency you want to transfer again, The frequency and mode will be transferred to the appropriate boxes; 8. Change, or complete the other parameters. Do not leave any boxes empty; 9. Now click 'SAVE'; 10. As usual the main form will appear asking if you wish to change any of the other parameters. Make your choices, and/or click 'SAVE'; 11. After the AR-DV1 has been updated, you can repeat the same process if you want to transfer another 'Q' frequency; 12. When you have finished, press the 'EXIT' button. The save to memory function is disabled, and its button colour changes back to yellow.
POWERMATE - EXTRA If a 'Q' window is open, then a LONG PRESS will automatically save the displayed frequency (as if you right-clicked VFOA). If the LIST is not visible, then a LONG PRESS reverts to its usual function of toggling the squelch REMEMBER the Quick Lists are just that. They store frequencies of immediate interest, but also saves your last lists and restores them the next time you run espyonard. If you find a frequency you want the AR-DV1 to remember permanently, then store it as a dedicated Memory Channel. espyonard lets you do that naturally. QUICK LISTS are tailored towards use when actually monitoring the radio, in real time, whilst you are present and operating the AR-DV1 and espyonard, although 'Q-SEARCH' can be used for unattended monitoring too, if you require less detailed information, and very fast selection. The PRO-TOOLS options provide very sophisticated information recording, including the audio of monitored frequencies if selected, during VFO, Search, or Scan operations, but most people will mainly use those functions when the AR-DV1 is unattended.. Except in the full PRO version, 'Q' LIST frequencies are limited to five only. Those of you who have a program that just relies on relaying / entering information obtained from other databases and sources will know that although useful at times, and looking very useful initially, that method soon loses much of its value once you discover the frequencies it contains are either not of interest to you, or are already out of date. The 'Q' concept provide a quick and easy way of always knowing what you want to listen to, of the frequencies currently really active where you are, in addition to many other really useful things that ensure your monitoring and frequency management experience is second to none. There are very basic similarities between the AR-DV1's 'A-STORE' (Auto Store) function and the auto 'Q-SEARCH' function, however in use there is no comparison. The 'Q' function is comprehensive, flexible, and provides more detailed information and scope. Continued...
Q-DB Difficult to know where to begin. I believe, as do others that this raises espyonard to a unique level as far as any CAT and frequency acquisition/manipulation/storage is concerned. As espyonard is only available for the AR-DV1, those claims go for the radio as well. Those of you with access to the Radio Reference Forum's frequency database, whether directly, or via the only other AR_DV1 software available will probably know of its limitations. Although numerous Countries and locations are listed, many outside the U.S. do not contain much, if any information. With Q-DB you can import frequency lists from anywhere on the Internet. You can select them from a Menu, click on any line and the frequency (and usually) the mode is instantly transferred to the AR-DV1 and the program. You can FILTER any of those lists by a keyword. A frequency, a name, a mode, a word, a Postcode (if present). Just right click a DB button. Filter entries are CASE SENSITIVE. To SAVE a filtered list - Right-Click 'SORT FILTER'. The file name is created automatically. In addition you can use espyonard's other multitude of functions on your selected frequency, including transferring it to one of the radio's dedicated Memories AND before you save it make any modifications such as testing different parameters in real time. Frequency lists will come in all sorts of different layouts, but providing the below simple (and usually present) parameters are present, 'Q-DB' handles them automatically. If you should want to use a list that does not fulfil the simple requirements it is really easy to modify it. LIST REQUIREMENTS a. The list must have NO spaces above the first line b. Any frequency line must contain a frequency with a '.' in it, e.g , although the location and manner of typing that frequency is handled by the program c. No other '.' must appear before the frequency (see 'SORT FILTER') Those are the ONLY requirements, and most lists will fit those as they stand. Often no changes will ever need to be made. If necessary it is simplicity itself to edit any list you acquire or create, if you should need or want to. Lists can be in.txt, or.csv format, which means if you have another program for the AR-DV1 and have created.csv file with it, they can be used in espyonard without any changes necessary. See below.
HOW TO ACQUIRE A LIST The whole operation is so easy. I have provided an example with pictures below to illustrate how easy it is. a. Search the Internet, and find a frequency list you are interested in b. Highlight the relevant areas, and select 'copy' c. Open Notepad, and paste that into it. d. Save that as a.txt file into the sub-directory called QDB (Inside the QUICK LIST directory in the CAT folder) Open the file, and just check the above criteria are met. IF when saving a file a warning is displayed about losing UNICODE characters, SAVE the file as UTF-8. Here is a quick example:- From HIGHLIGHT WHAT YOU WANT
3. COPY AND PASTE IT INTO NOTEPAD 4. SAVE IT Then just check if the simple criteria above are met ---- they are --- list is useable with no modifications needed NOTE If your chosen list contains a comma ',' in the frequency, e.g. 145,500 or any different symbol, you MUST first edit each frequency so it contains a full stop '.' so it reads and ONLY the frequency entries. This CANNOT be automated. Many lists contain commas ',' and all.csv files do. The program must first replace all commas ',' in order to be able to use lists from the Net in many formats. The program has to be able to identify which entry represents a frequency. MOST available frequency lists will use a full stop '.' but should they not, there is no option but to manually edit the file you want to use in espyonard
USING Q-DB 1. RIGHT click on the 'A-STR' button 2. Click the 'DB' button
3. Select the 'FBI' FILE Click on any entry in the right hand list and it is transferred to the AR-DV1 and program. If you want to see the list in a larger widow, click the 'DB +' button The 'DB -' button returns you to the split screen and you can use the scroll bars as necessary. ALL the other 'Q' functions are available. Select a frequency, transfer it to the radio, right click VFOA and it is transferred to your current 'Q-LIST'. Fill that list with the frequencies of interest, and save it as a 'Q' archive file. The frequencies in that file can be scanned if you want. Any that you want to transfer to a radio memory, you can. Right-click on a DB button and you can type in any filter. Entries are CASE SENSITIVE.
LIST SORT As you will be importing lists from the Net which will have many unknown means of formatting, espyonard has a built-in function which allows you to re-format them. The 'LIST SORT' button will:- a. Sort any displayed 'Q-DB' file into frequency order, with the frequency displayed as the first entry. b. One of the required parameters (as above) is that no '.' appear before the frequency in the original imported list. The program tests for up to ten such instances, and if found removes them. In the unlikely event there should be MORE than 10 you will need to save the sorted 'Q-DB' list, and run the sort again. c. The time it takes to sort an imported 'Q-DB' depends on many factors. A message is displayed whilst the operation is in progress, and when it is completed. d. Most unnecessary spaces are also removed. e. When completed, the sorted 'Q-DB' list may be used to transfer single frequencies to the radio, and to scan them. A filter can also be applied. The program SAVES the new file automatically, with '-SORTED" added to the file name. It would be impossible to cater for every type of list that might be imported, but 'LIST SORT' should enable you to use almost all of them, and to format them all into a standard pattern. Remember espyonard can only select the correct MODE if the line containing the frequency includes that information. If no recognised mode is shown the program uses 'FM' as a default. Even if a mode is shown, it may not be recognizable. The program attempts to identify them if they are in a format it 'knows', however there are infinite variations possible. Currently the program can only discover a mode if it is displayed in this form (ALL CASE SENSITIVE) AM; SAH; SAL; USB; LSB; CW; D-STAR; D_STAR; YAES; ALIN; DCR/NXDN; DCR; NXDN; P-25; P25; dpmr; DMR; AUTO I will add further variations as I discover them. If your imported 'Q-DB' list displays a mode in a frequency line that does not match the above, you will need to edit the list manually. me with other variations you may find and I will include them in future updates. Some imported lists might, for example, be solely for a specific mode, and therefore individual lines will not include the information.
In those circumstances you will need edit the list manually, and add the desired mode to each line that displays a frequency, if you wish the correct mode to be automatically selected. The other essential parameter is that any frequency in a line has a space before it, and a space after it. If your imported list does NOT show this, you will have to edit it manually for the SORT to work correctly. SCANNING Q-DB FILES Most Q-DB files can be scanned by clicking the SCAN button. The program is intuitive. It detects and ignores empty lines, or lines that do not contain a frequency. The Q-DB scan is software controlled. As such it can never be as fast as the electronic scan of the radio. The software has to perform numerous tasks whilst scanning, and also has to send and receive many serial commands. That all takes time. The exact speed of the scan depends on many factors, depending on the above, Some DB files will scan slower than others. Because the program allows you to import DB files in many formats, there is a lot of processing involved in finding frequencies and modes in each line. Although this has the great advantage that you rarely have to edit any file you imported, that processing is a factor which controls the Q-DB scan speed too. SQUELCH settings can be quite critical, especially if your list contains many frequencies in different bands, and different modes. A list just containing just VHF frequencies from one Band will usually require one squelch setting to work, however if the list also includes an HF band frequency, for example, the squelch setting for that is likely to be completely different. You can control the 'delay', i.e. how long the program waits when an active signal is found, before continuing using the scan delay slider which appears when you click the 'DELAY button on the main screen (remember clicking it again closes the delay window). If a frequency becomes active, and you wish to stop the scan, just click the SCAN button so it shows 'OFF', or select it from the list on the right. Selecting any single frequency immediately sets the scan to 'off'. Whilst scanning is in progress, you may select any other QDB file, or select or change a filter key word. SCAN SPEED Right click the Scan button to toggle between the two available SCAN speeds, (S) or (F). Some P.C.'s may not be able to cope with the FAST scan setting.
PASS FREQUENCIES As the SCAN facility in 'Q'SEARCH' and 'Q-DB' are software controlled, independent of the AR-DV1, the radio's internal PASS commands do not function. During a 'Q-DB' scan, clicking the 'SET PASS' will set the highlighted frequency as PASS. Any PASS frequencies you create will initially appear at the bottom of the list. This makes them easy to identify. If you accidentally created a PASS frequency, or just wish to change your mind stop the scan. Click 'CLR PASS', then double click on the frequency you wish to release. The amended list is saved automatically. The next time you select it the list will be arranged in alphabetical order. You may use the 'CLR PASS' button to remove any PASS settings, as above. RIGHT clicking the 'CLR PASS' button lets you clear ALL PASS frequencies from your selected 'Q-DB' list. PASS frequencies appear in your list, but are marked with 'XPASS' after the frequency entry. You can still transfer that PASS frequency to the AR-DV1 by double-clicking on it, It will be ignored during a scan however. You may also set PASS frequencies in a FILTERED list. The program then automatically saves the new filtered 'Q-DB' file, with an extension. e.g. If you applied the filter TAXI to a 'Q-DB' list named 'PMR.txt' then set a PASS frequency, a new file is created named 'PMR.txt-TAXI.txt'. Click the 'DB' button twice to bring up a new list of 'Q-DB' files which will include the newly created one. RENAMING, DELETING or EDITING Q-DB FILES Click the RENAME button, and you may change the Q-DB file name for the SELECTED entry.. Click the DELETE button, removes the selected entry from the Q-DB list, and deletes it from the P.C. To EDIT a Q-DB text file, RIGHT-CLICK the RENAME button. The file will appear in Notepad. After editing remember to save your work. MEMORY CHANNELS vs Q-DB FILES Q-DB files do not use the AR-DV1's memory channels. and can contain as many frequencies as you want. They can contain ANY length of descriptive text (not just 12 characters). They are stored on your P.C. The only limitation is the size of your computer's hard drive(s). You can expect to store hundreds, or even thousands of them if you really want to.
Because they are files on your P.C. you can make backups easily, to any available medium, including USB sticks, CD's, DVD's, or another internal or external hard drive. Dedicated memory channels can contain more parameters, Noise Reduction, AGC etc, but you can use espyonard to move any 'Q-DB' frequency to a dedicated memory if that is your choice. PROVIDING THE SIMPLE CRITERIA ARE MET YOU CAN OBTAIN FREQUENCY LIST FOR ANY COUNTRY, ANY GENRE, ANYTHING THAT INTERESTS YOU AND you can quickly create your own personal DB files in Notepad.
