11 So WHY the PUSH to Windows 10!!!!! Increase platforms (Tablets, phones, etc) 1) Loosing platforms (Tablet & Phone etc) means MS not selling as many copies of software 2) BY making Win 10 go over multiple platforms, they have more exposure 3) Expanded platforms mean more software sales Increase Software Sales (Office, Modern Apps, etc) 1) Windows 7 or 8 software did not work on all the new Platforms So if you have a BOX or tablet, you needed 2 different copies of software. 2) Bad for developers because they had to support numerous different copies so, MS LOST developers especially on the tablet, phone and appliances DATA, DATA,DATA (Data Mining) 1) Data sent to Google, Apple, or MS means MONEY from ads or sale of data 2) Using Apple products send data to apple they send out ads and sell data 3) Using Apple products send data to apple they send out ads and sell data 4) Loss of platforms, means loss of data money 11

12 What s Good about Windows 10 1) ITS FREE!!!! 2) The Start menu is BACK!!!!! 3) Charms bar (side of computer in Win8 & 8.1 is GONE) 4) Faster search (using Cortana or Bing) 5) Very easy to hook up a wireless internet connection 6) Using a MS Log on gives you Cortana, 5 Gigs of OneDrive 7) Windows Metro/universal Apps open on the Desktop 8) New, very fast Internet browser called Edge 12

13 What problems have I seen with Win10 installs 1) The Windows 10 Upgrade may not install (for me, only 7 of 150) 2) If your software works in Windows 7 or 8, it may not work in Windows 10 3) If you buy a NEW COMPUTER with Windows 10, some software may not load 4) Examples: Quicken, Corel Products like Corel Draw 5) Your laptop camera may not work (driver problem) 6) Printers may not work (again a driver problem) 7) Laptop mouse may not work (again a driver problem) 8) Have to get use to a different interface (but more like Windows 7) 9) Settings you used before, may be in a different locations 10) Privacy could be a issue to you. 11) Defaults to the Edge Browser, but can be changed 12)The Edge Browser has terrible Favorites management 13) Edge is fast, but I use Chrome because of the Favorites issue 13

14 Windows 10 Install Getting You computer ready Microsoft THINKS it knows when your ready MS has already been updating your PC Microsoft TRYS to PUSH the change to you Biggest issue: Computer type, Drivers, software 14

15 Things YOU can do Decide NOT to upgrade (there are ways to stop it) If you decide to upgrade: BACKUP all your personal data!!! Check with your computer manufacturer Install the correct drivers before upgrade Have some one help!!!! Go slowly Check everything after install. 15

16 Windows 10 Install Steps If you decide to start the update: 1) Will ask if you want to do it NOW 2) The computer checks for updates: Downloads, then restarts 3) Asks for license approval 4) Downloads Again, then restarts 5) Configuring (shows % complete), then restarts 6) Shows a black screen for a while 7) Shows a Upgrading windows message (show % complete) 8) Upgrading windows is the longest step!!! 9) Says copying files 10) Then Installing features and drivers (this is where it COULD FAIL) If you decide to start the update continued: 14) Adds NEW Metro style Apps for windows. These are NOT complete programs, just Apple or Android type phone apps. 15) Hit NEXT 16) If you get this far, you are probably OK 17) Says Taking care of a few things 18) May ask Do you want to allow this App to make changes to your PC? SAY YES so it will load the App. 19) Done! 20) YOU MUST CHECK TO SEE IF ALL YOUR WINDOWS 7 or 8 programs work. Check Corel Products, Quicken, all your printers or scanners, any remote drives, laptop cameras, etc Don t be surprised if something doesn t work!!! 11) Says Configuring setting (can also fail here) 12) Goes to the familiar log in screen use a win 7 or 8 login if you have one, MS ID NOT necessary, but has consequences. 13) Next - Change settings or use express setting: use express settings because it uses your Windows 7 or 8 settings. But this also has privacy consequences. Time: depends on your internet connection and PC speed Fast PC 40 minutes Slow PC 2 hours 16

17 After the Windows 10 Install Privacy Microsoft has taken considerable criticism for the lack of privacy features in Windows 10. The biggest complaints that people should have are (1) the lack of centralized settings for all privacy settings (even Facebook has centralized settings) and (2) the inability to easily turn off all of the data collection in Windows 10. I found no less than five places to configure privacy settings through the user interface: Cortana and the search bar Settings (which contain the bulk of the settings) Edge Windows Defender Accounts
