6 Preface The Informatica Upgrading from Versions 10.1 and later is written for the system administrator who is responsible for upgrading Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog services. This guide assumes that you have knowledge of relational database concepts, an understanding of processing data in a distributed environment across clusters, and familiarity with the relational database systems and other file systems in your environment. The guide also assumes that you are familiar with the interface requirements of the supporting applications. You can upgrade Enterprise Data Catalog deployed on both existing and embedded clusters to version An embedded cluster refers to the Hadoop cluster bundled with Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog installer. An existing cluster refers to a version of any Hadoop cluster supported by Enterprise Data Catalog that you have set up in your organization. You need to upgrade the Informatica domain application services and the Enterprise Data Catalog services as part of the upgrade process. The Informatica domain application services consist of services to support the Informatica domain. The Enterprise Data Catalog services consist of services to run and manage Enterprise Data Catalog in the Informatica domain. The Informatica domain is the administrative unit for the Enterprise Data Catalog environment. The domain is a collection of nodes that represent the machines on which the application services run. You must use Catalog Administrator to manage and monitor resources, schedules, attributes, and connections. Privileges to Upgrade Services The privileges required to upgrade application services depend on the application service. A user with the Administrator role on the domain can access the service upgrade wizard. A user must have the required roles, privileges, and permissions to upgrade the following application services: Model Repository Service To upgrade the Model Repository Service using the service upgrade wizard, a user must have the following credentials: Administrator role on the domain. Create, Edit, and Delete Projects privilege for the Model Repository Service and write permission on projects. 8

9 To upgrade the Model Repository Service from the Actions menu or from the command line, a user must have the following credentials: Manage Services privilege for the domain and permission on the Model Repository Service. Create Projects privilege for the Model Repository Service. Edit Projects privilege for the Model Repository Service. Delete Projects privilege for the Model Repository Service. Write permission on projects. Data Integration Service To upgrade the Data Integration Service, a user must have the Administrator role on the Data Integration Service. Content Management Service To upgrade the Content Management Service, a user must have the Administrator role on the Content Management Service. Upgrade Big Data Management and Install Enterprise Data Catalog If you had installed Big Data Management 10.1 or later without Enterprise Data Catalog, you can first upgrade to Big Data Management Then, you can install Enterprise Data Catalog if required. To upgrade Big Data Management to include Enterprise Data Catalog , perform the following steps: 1. Run the installer to upgrade to Big Data Management and exit the installer. 2. Run the installer to install Enterprise Data Catalog The installer copies the Enterprise Data Catalog binary files to the Informatica domain and exits. 3. Make sure that you run the pre-validation utility to validate the Informatica domain, cluster hosts, and the Hadoop cluster services configuration before you upgrade Enterprise Data Catalog in an existing cluster. 2. Make sure that there is an additional 100 GB of free disk space on the machine where Informatica domain runs. 3. Make sure that you use Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.8 on all cluster nodes. 4. During upgrade, ensure that you do not modify the following custom properties files in the $INFA_HOME/ services/catalogservice/binaries directory: custom.properties.default custom.properties.demo custom.properties.low custom.properties.medium custom.properties.high 5. Enable and upgrade the Informatica application services as shown in the Enable and Upgrade Informatica Application Services on page Enable the Catalog Service as shown in the Enable the Catalog Service on page Upgrade the Catalog Service using Informatica Administrator or the Informatica command line interface as shown in the Upgrade the Catalog Service on page 16. Note: When you upgrade the Catalog Service, do not modify the load type. Domain Upgrade Overview Use the server installer to upgrade the domain of a previous version of Informatica services. The server installer provides a domain upgrade wizard to guide you through the upgrade process. For more information about upgrading the domain, see the Upgrade the Domain section in Informatica Upgrading from Version 10.0 (10.2.2). Note: Before you upgrade the domain for an existing cluster, ensure that you complete the following tasks: Make sure that you copy the new scanner binaries from the Akamai Download Manager to your installation directory. Set the INFA_TRUSTSTORE and INFA_TRUSTSTORE_PASSWORD environment variable values if the domain is enabled for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The upgrade wizard installs Informatica in the installation directory you specify. The upgrade wizard does not modify the files in the directory of the previous version. The upgrade wizard reads the domain information from files in the previous version and uses the same settings to configure the domain and server files for Informatica The wizard upgrades the tables of the domain configuration repository in the same database as the previous version. Complete the pre-upgrade tasks for the Informatica domain before you start the upgrade. If the Informatica domain was deployed on multiple nodes, run the installer on all machines that host previous versions of Informatica that you want to upgrade. You can upgrade in console mode or silent mode. Note: In a multi-node domain, upgrade the master gateway node before you upgrade other nodes. After you upgrade the domain, upgrade Informatica Developer to the same Informatica version, including the hotfix version. For more information about upgrading the Informatica domain, see Informatica Upgrading from Version 10.0 (10.2.2). If you had configured Universal Connectivity Framework (UCF) resources before upgrade, and plan to use the resources after upgrade, perform the steps listed in Appendix A, Use Existing Universal Connectivity Framework Resources Post Upgrade on page 30 Back Up Enterprise Data Catalog Make sure you back up the catalog before you upgrade Enterprise Data Catalog. Backing up the catalog ensures the availability of the existing metadata, attributes, associations, values, schedules, and tasks after you upgrade to the latest version of Enterprise Data Catalog in the event of an upgrade failure. You must have the Informatica Administrator role to perform the backup. Disable the Application Services You must disable the following Informatica application services before taking a backup of the catalog: 1. Catalog Service 2. Content Management Service 3. Data Integration Service 4. Model Repository Service To disable an application service, select the service in Informatica Administrator and click Actions > Disable. For more information about enabling or disabling the Informatica application services, see the Informatica Application Service Guide. Disable the Application Services To disable an application service using Informatica Administrator, select the service and then click Disable Service from the Actions menu. Recyling and Disabling the Content Management Service Recycle the Content Management Service to apply the latest service or service process options. Disable the Content Management Service to restrict user access to information about reference data in the Developer tool. 1. In the Administrator tool, click the Manage tab > Services and Nodes view. 2. In the Domain Navigator, select Content Management Service > Disable to stop the service. When you disable the Content Management Service, you must choose the mode to disable it in. You can choose one of the following options: Complete. Allows the jobs to run to completion before disabling the service. Abort. Tries to stop all jobs before aborting them and disabling the service. 3. Click Recycle to restart the service. The Data Integration Service must be running before you recycle the Content Management Service. You can recycle the Content Management Service in the following scenarios: Recycle the Content Management Service after you add or update address reference data files or after you change the file location for probabilistic or classifier model data files. 14 Recycle the Content Management Service and the associated Data Integration Service after you update the address validation properties, reference data location, identity cache directory, or identity index directory on the Content Management Service. When you update the reference data location on the Content Management Service, recycle the Analyst Service associated with the Model Repository Service that the Content Management Service uses. Open a Developer tool or Analyst tool application to refresh the reference data location stored by the application. Disable the Data Integration Service You can disable the Data Integration Service if you need to perform maintenance or you need to temporarily restrict users from using the service. When you disable the Data Integration Service, you shut down the Data Integration Service and disable all service processes. If you are running the Data Integration Service on a grid, you disable all service processes on the grid. When you disable the Data Integration Service, you must choose the mode to disable it in. You can choose one of the following options: Complete. Stops all applications and cancels all jobs within each application. Waits for all jobs to cancel before disabling the service. Abort. Stops all applications and tries to cancel all jobs before aborting them and disabling the service. Disable the Model Repository Service You can disable the service to perform maintenance or to temporarily restrict users from accessing the Model Repository Service or Model repository. When you disable the Model Repository Service, you shut down the Model Repository Service and disable all service processes. When you disable the Model Repository Service, you shut down the Model Repository Service. When you disable the Model Repository Service, you must choose the mode to disable it in. You can choose one of the following options: Complete. Allows the service operations to run to completion before disabling the service. Abort. Tries to stop all service operations before aborting them and disabling the service. Enable and Upgrade Informatica Application Services After upgrading the domain, enable the following Informatica application services and upgrade the services: 1. Model Repository Service 2. 15 Application Service Upgrade Overview The Informatica services version that you upgrade from determines the application service upgrade process. Some Informatica services versions require that you upgrade the application services. When you upgrade an application service, you must also upgrade the dependent services. When you upgrade an application service, the upgrade process upgrades the database contents of the databases associated with the service. Use the service upgrade wizard, the actions menu of each service, or the command line to upgrade application services. The service upgrade wizard upgrades multiple services in the appropriate order and checks for dependencies. If you use the actions menu of each service or the command line to upgrade application services, you must upgrade the application services in the correct order and verify that you upgrade dependent services. The privileges required to upgrade application services depend on the service. After you upgrade the Model Repository Service, check the log to verify that the upgrade completed successfully. Enable the Model Repository Service Perform the following steps to enable the Model Repository Service. You must enable the Model Repository Service to perform the following tasks in the Administrator tool: Create, back up, restore, delete, or upgrade Model repository content. Create and delete the Model repository search index. Manage permissions on the Model repository. Synchronize the Model repository with a version control system. Note: When you enable the Model Repository Service, the machine on which the service runs requires at least 750 MB of free memory. If enough free memory is not available, the service might fail to start. When you enable a Model Repository Service that runs on a single node, a service process starts on the node. When you enable a Model Repository Service configured to run on primary and back-up nodes, a service process is available to run on each node, but it might not start. For example, you have the high availability option and you configure a Model Repository Service to run on a primary node and two back-up nodes. You enable the Model Repository Service, which enables a service process on each of the three nodes. A single process runs on the primary node, and the other processes on the back-up nodes maintain standby status. Enable the Data Integration Service Perform the following steps to enable the Data Integration Service: The number of service processes that start when you enable the Data Integration Service depends on the following components which the service can run on: Single node Grid When you enable a Data Integration Service that runs on a single node, a service process starts on the node. When you enable a Data Integration Service that runs on a grid, a service process starts on each node in the grid that has the service role. Enable and Upgrade Informatica Application Services 15

16 Primary and back-up nodes When you enable a Data Integration Service configured to run on primary and back-up nodes, a service process is available to run on each node, but only the service process on the primary node starts. For example, you have the high availability option and you configure a Data Integration Service to run on a primary node and two back-up nodes. You enable the Data Integration Service, which enables a service process on each of the three nodes. A single process runs on the primary node, and the other processes on the back-up nodes maintain standby status. When you enable the Data Integration Service, a service process starts on the node. Note: The associated Model Repository Service must be started before you can enable the Data Integration Service. Enabling the Content Management Service 1. In the Administrator tool, click the Manage tab > Services and Nodes view. 2. In the Domain Navigator, select Content Management Service > Enable to start the service. Enable the Catalog Service To enable the Catalog Service, select the service and then click Enable Service from the Actions menu in Informatica Administrator. Upgrade the Catalog Service After you start the Catalog Service, Informatica Administrator prompts you to upgrade the Catalog Service. You can upgrade the Catalog Service by either using Informatica Administrator or using the Informatica command line interface. To upgrade the Catalog Service, a user must have the Informatica Administrator role in the Informatica domain. Upgrade Catalog Service Using Informatica Administrator You can select the Catalog Service, and click Actions > Upgrade to launch the service upgrade wizard. The wizard verifies dependency errors, prompts you to correct errors and upgrades the Catalog Service. The wizard also displays a summary of the upgrade status. For more information about the service upgrade wizard, see the Running the Service Upgrade Wizard section in the Informatica Application Service Guide. Upgrade Catalog Service Using the Informatica Command Line Interface You can use the upgrade command to upgrade the Catalog Service. For more information about the upgrade command, see the Informatica Command Reference. If you had configured values for the INFA_TRUSTSTORE and INFA_TRUSTSTORE_PASSWORD environment variables for accessing another domain, you must clear the values before upgrading the Catalog Service. Make sure that you run the pre-validation utility to validate the prerequisites to upgrade Enterprise Data Catalog in an embedded cluster. For more information about running the utility, see the HOW TO: Validate Informatica Domain, Cluster Hosts, and Cluster Services Configuration (Catalog Service Validation Utility) KB article. 2. Make sure that there is an additional 100 GB of free disk space on the machine where Informatica domain runs. 3. Ensure that you do not modify the following custom properties files in the $INFA_HOME/services/ CatalogService/Binaries directory: custom.properties.default custom.properties.demo custom.properties.low custom.properties.medium custom.properties.high 17

18 4. Make sure that you install the following applications on each cluster host node before you upgrade Enterprise Data Catalog in an embedded cluster: Bash shell libtirpc-devel 5. Disable the Informatica application services as shown in the Disable the Informatica Application Services on page Back up the catalog as shown in the Back Up Enterprise Data Catalog on page Upgrade Informatica domain as shown in the Domain Upgrade Overview on page Enable and upgrade the Informatica application services as shown in the Enable and Upgrade Informatica Application Services on page If you are upgrading Enterprise Data Catalog from versions earlier than , upgrade the Informatica Cluster Service as shown in the Upgrade the Informatica Cluster Service on page 23. Note: You need not perform this step if you are upgrading from versions or later. 10. Restore the backed-up catalog data as shown in the Restore Catalog Data on page 23. Note: You need not perform this step if you are upgrading Enterprise Data Catalog from to Enable the Catalog Service as shown in the Enable the Catalog Service on page Upgrade the Catalog Service using Informatica Administrator or the Informatica command line interface as shown in the Upgrade the Catalog Service on page 16. Note: When you upgrade the Catalog Service, do not modify the load type. The installer includes Azul JDK. After upgrade, Enterprise Data Catalog uses Azul JDK on all cluster nodes. Domain Upgrade Overview Use the server installer to upgrade the domain of a previous version of Informatica services. The server installer provides a domain upgrade wizard to guide you through the upgrade process. For more information about upgrading the domain, see the Upgrade the Domain section in Informatica Upgrading from Version 10.0 (10.2.2). Note: Before you upgrade the domain for an existing cluster, ensure that you complete the following tasks: If you are upgrading Enterprise Data Catalog on an embedded cluster, copy the Ambari binaries using the Akamai Download Manager to your installation directory. Make sure that you copy the new scanner binaries from the Akamai Download Manager to your installation directory. Set the INFA_TRUSTSTORE and INFA_TRUSTSTORE_PASSWORD environment variable values if the domain is enabled for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The upgrade wizard installs Informatica in the installation directory you specify. The upgrade wizard does not modify the files in the directory of the previous version. The upgrade wizard reads the domain information from files in the previous version and uses the same settings to configure the domain and server files for Informatica The wizard upgrades the tables of the domain configuration repository in the same database as the previous version. Complete the pre-upgrade tasks for the Informatica domain before you start the upgrade. If the Informatica domain was deployed on multiple nodes, run the installer on all machines that host previous versions of Informatica that you want to upgrade. 19 Note: In a multi-node domain, upgrade the master gateway node before you upgrade other nodes. After you upgrade the domain, upgrade Informatica Developer to the same Informatica version, including the hotfix version. For more information about upgrading the Informatica domain, see Informatica Upgrading from Version 10.0 (10.2.2). If you had configured Universal Connectivity Framework (UCF) resources before upgrade, and plan to use the resources after upgrade, perform the steps listed in Appendix A, Use Existing Universal Connectivity Framework Resources Post Upgrade on page 30 Back Up Enterprise Data Catalog Make sure that you back up the catalog before you upgrade Enterprise Data Catalog. Backing up the catalog ensures the availability of the existing metadata, attributes, associations, values, schedules, and tasks after you upgrade to the latest version of Enterprise Data Catalog in the event of an upgrade failure. You must have the Informatica Administrator role to perform the backup. The infacmd ldm BackupContents command as shown in the following sample, creates a.zip file of the directory in the local machine:./infacmd.sh LDM backupcontents -dn <name of the Informatica domain> -un <username to connect to the Informatica domain> -pd <password for the username> - sn <name of the Catalog Service> -of <name of the backup ZIP file> For more information about the syntax, parameters, and description of the command, see Informatica Command Reference. Disable the Informatica Application Services You must disable the following Informatica application services before taking a backup of the catalog: 1. Catalog Service 2. Content Management Service 3. Data Integration Service 4. Model Repository Service To disable an application service, select the service in Informatica Administrator and click Actions > Disable. For more information about enabling or disabling the Informatica application services, see the Informatica Application Service Guide. Disable the Application Services To disable an application service using Informatica Administrator, select the service and then click Disable Service from the Actions menu.
