9 9. How to configure the Automation Engine Server 9.1 How to redirect the temporary files folder The Automation Engine Server requires a folder for creating temporary files. By default, this is the folder C:\\bg_data_fastserver_v100\tmp. Since this default folder is located on the system partition, this could lead to disk space problems. To prevent this, you can redirect the temporary files folder. You need the following: Administrator Rights A large disk partition Proceed as follows to create a specific temporary folder for the Automation Engine Server: 1. In Windows Explorer, create a temporary folder on a large disk partition. 2. In Control Panel, click System > Advanced System Settings. 3. Click the Advanced tab. 4. Click Environment Variables. 5. In the Environment Variables dialog, select the BG_TMP variable under System variables. 6. Click Edit. 7. Fill in the full path specification of the selected temporary folder in the Variable Value box and click OK. 8. Your container is created. 21
9 f) Click Next to create another container, or Finish to leave the wizard. 7. If you selected Existing Shared Folder: a) Enter the Computer Name of the machine where the share folder is located, or use the Browse... button to select that machine in your network. b) Click Next. c) The wizard shows a list of all available shares on that machine. Select the share you want to use as a container. 22
9 Attention: The existing shared folders will not be displayed if the system does not recognize the bgsystem user (password Drupa2000). d) Click Next. Your container is created. e) Click Next to create another container, or Finish to leave the wizard. 9.3 How to create shares for Windows Automation Engine server-client data exchange Next to Job Containers that you can define and use for data exchange, you can set up other shares for data exchange between Windows Automation Engine server and client systems. For exchanging data through Windows shares you must set access rights correctly: full access permission on the Windows folder that is shared and full access permission on the share itself. You need administrator rights. To set up a Windows share, proceed as follows: 1. In the Start menu, click Administrative Tools > Computer Management. 2. In the Computer Management window, double-click Shared Folders > Shares. 3. Choose Action > New Share. 4. Follow the instructions of the Create A Shared Folder Wizard. 9.4 How to configure the FlexRip devices Automation Engine can output files to a variety of output devices (CDI, HP Indigo, Kodak Approval, etc.). Automation Engine uses Artwork s FlexRip engine to RIP the file in preparation for output. 23
9 To connect Automation Engine to an output device, you need to connect it to FlexRip. 1. In the Pilot, go to Tools > Configure. This opens the Configure dialog. 2. Select the option corresponding to your output device in the list at left (for example, select FlexRip - Proofer Output to output to a proofer). 3. Go to File > New or use the Insert key (on Windows). This shows tabs with parameters at right. 4. In the General tab: a) To output to a RIP, enter the name or IP address of your RIP server in RIP Node. For a FlexProof output, enter the name / IP address of your proof server in Proofer Node. b) Enter the Link port number used by the Dispatcher in Link Portnr. (only for FlexRip outputs). Note: You can find that port number by going to Info > Ports in the Dispatcher. c) Click the Synchronize with Rip / Synchronize with ProofNode button. After a few seconds, your RIP/proof server is connected to Automation Engine, and you can see its name in the Type field. 5. In the Queue tab: 24
9 a) Give your queue a name in the Queue field. b) Choose a Queue Job Limit: choose 1 to have the RIP handle one file at a time (this ensures the files are ripped in the order they enter the RIP), choose 2 to have the RIP handle two files at once (the files may not be ripped in the order they enter the RIP if for example you send a big then a small file). 6. Go to File > Save to save the configuration. You can now see the devices you are connected to in the Pilot s Devices view. 9.5 How to create Automation Engine Server users for Client access Default users and groups When Automation Engine 12 is installed, the certain groups and users have been automatically created. When creating new users, add them to these groups. Groups Group name Contains Extra Windows privileges BGADMIN All administrative users of the Log on as a service Automation Engine Server Log on as a batch job Replace a process level token Act as a part of the operating system BGUSERS All users of the Automation Engine Server Log on as a batch job Replace a process level token Act as a part of the operating system Users Username Password User groups Use BGSYSTEM Drupa2000 Administrators Account to run the Automation Engine Server. digi digi Users BGUSERS Default user of the Automation Engine Server. 25
9 Username Password User groups Use admin admin BGADMIN Default user for administrative purposes of the Automation Engine Server. flexrip flexproof flexrip flexproof Users BGUSERS Users BGUSERS Account required to connect to FlexRip output devices. Created if FlexRip is installed on the computer. Account required to connect to FlexProof/ E output devices. Created if FlexProof/E is installed on the computer. Caution: Only use the Automation Engine Administration Wizard to change the password of the BGSYSTEM user. Do not change the password for the users flexrip and flexproof How to create new users 1. In the Pilot, go to Tools > Users. 2. In the Users window, do one of the following: go to File > New User, use the CTRL + N shortcut, click the icon. The New User dialog opens. 3. Enter the user's Name, Full Name, Password, Description and valid address. 4. If you want the user to be able to administer Automation Engine, check the toggle. This will give all user access rights to that user. 5. Click OK to add your new user to the Users list. Attention: Creating a user via Automation Engine means that Automation Engine requests the Windows OS to create that user. Some changes to that user can then no longer be made through the Automation Engine Pilot, but need to be done via the Windows user administration tools. 9.6 How to add domain users to the Automation Engine Pilot Check the following: You need to have administrator rights. The Automation Engine Server must be put on the active directory. 26
9 On the active directory, the BGSYSTEM user with the password of the Automation Engine Server must be present as normal user. If Windows domain users are to be granted access to Automation Engine Pilot functionality, add them to the group BGUSERS or BGADMIN. To add a Windows domain user to the BGUSERS group, proceed as follows: 1. In the Start menu, click Administrative Tools > Computer Management. 2. In the Computer Management window, double-click Local Users and Groups > Groups. 3. In the Name list, right-click the BGUSERS group and choose Add to Group. The BGUSERS Properties window will be displayed, showing all its members. 4. Click Add 5. Fill in the user name and click Check Names. 6. Click OK to add the user to the group. 27
