ServiceTools and Your Internet Browser Notice that the ServiceTools program works from your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser only (not AOL or Netscape). On startup you will always see the McQuay ServiceTools screen for several seconds before it automatically advances to the Main menu screen. CAUTION Disconnect network communications wiring to the control board before connecting ServiceTools to a MicroTech II unit controller. Failure to do so can: Overload the unit-control-board s communication capacity and cause the unit controller to reset. Overload network communications and slow or suspend system-wide network communications. Getting Started The initial installation of the ServiceTools software requires that you enter the user name and password shown below. Note that both are case-sensitive. User Name: McQuay Password: Password 1. From the Main screen, select the type of McQuay Applied Air Handling unit that you want to access: Rooftop or Self Contained. 2. Click on either the box with a picture of the unit type, or select from the appropriate index-folder tab. This opens the Select Connection Type window. 3. Here you have a choice of SERIAL or Other. If the name of the connection you defined in ServiceTools Configuration is SERIAL, select that. If you gave it another name, click on Other and type in the name, then click on OK. 4. If there is a valid serial connection, and if both Windows and ServiceTools have been configured correctly, (see the instructions at the start of the ServiceTools installation disk) communications with the MicroTech II unit controller should be initiated. 5. In the Controller Status window, you should see the message, Bidding the Site Manager. Please wait. If the connection is made successfully, you will see the message, Connection to device completed successfully! Since this is a serial connection, allow enough time for all communications and windowdisplays to be completed or updated. The serial port connection does not typically require shutting down or rebooting either the MicroTech II unit controller or your PC. 4 UM 734-6

Downloading an Application There are three different types of downloads. They include: Download and Configure this option downloads the application, the keypad, and configures the unit. Manually Select this option allows users to manually select the file they wish to download. Special this function allows users to manually select the file they wish to download. Download and Configure When upgrading to a different version of software, this is the option used to install that application. Follow these steps: 1. Enter the Unit Configuration (as supplied with the software or as found on a label located on the backside of the keypad mounting panel). 2. Select Download and Configure. 8 UM 734-6

3. Select the Old 200 Series checkbox ONLY if downloading old series 200 software ( or earlier) (rooftop screen only). 4. Select the Unit Size (rooftop screen only). 5. Click on the Download button. A new page will appear asking to confirm the configuration string. If a correction needs to be made, do so now. Check this list carefully to verify that the number string selected represents the configuration string needed. If it does not, make necessary changes from this menu before performing the download. If this is not done, incorrect information will be downloaded. 6. If the string is correct, select Yes at the Proceed with Download prompt. The download will automatically find the needed files and download them. 7. If prompted for a password, enter it. The total download may take as long as 45 to 60 minutes if the firmware is loaded. A new dialog box will open at the end of the download, indicating that the process has been finished. Do not interrupt the power until you receive this message. If the download is interrupted for any reason, including battery failure, an error message will appear and you will have to re-initiate the download process. 8. When the download is complete, you should get the message: Please wait while the unit configuration takes place (this process takes approximately two minutes) OR Please wait while a cold boot is performed and unit configuration takes place (this process takes approximately five minutes). When these timers expire, a Success in writing configuration string message, followed by a Download Complete message will appear. You should check the new configuration options presented in the Main Application Configuration table to ensure that the configuration is correct for the unit. 9. Re-calibrate the system after the download and all program changes have been made (see Using the Calibrate Mode, below). 10. Perform an Archive to verify that all the changes have been burned into flash memory. (See Writing to Memory, below.) Manually Select This option should only be selected when you are an advanced user of this program. It allows manual downloading of files. There is no need to enter a configuration string prior to downloading. However, it will be necessary to manually configure the unit using the Main Configuration table after the download is complete. Special This option should only be selected when you are downloading special software. Enter the special part number and check the firmware box if the firmware needs to be loaded, then press the download button. The defaults for the configuration string will be set as part of the special, so there is no need to modify the configuration string after a download takes place. With any download, minimize the chance of system power failure or loss of power to your PC (due to battery condition, for example) during the download. If the download is interrupted for any reason, you will see an error message and will have to re-initiate the download process. The download will remove all special settings (such as those made under the Control, Schedule, Alarm, and Network control buttons) which will have to be recorded and re-entered. In addition, the software may have to be reconfigured to handle any special unit needs (such as condenser fan staging setpoints) and for older versions of hardware. UM

Writing to Memory There are two types of memory on MicroTech II unit controllers: SRAM (Static Random Access Memory), and FLASH memory. SRAM is a temporary type of memory that is cleared whenever a control board is powered off and it has a bad (or no) battery. FLASH memory is a more permanent type of memory that is retained regardless of how long the board is powered off or the battery condition. However, the nature of FLASH memory is that it can be changed by instructions from the microprocessor at any time. Under the Network control button you ll find a table labeled Controller Status. Here you ll find the current Controller Status, and three options under the Action heading: a Cold Reset button, a Reset button, and an Archive button. Cold Reset Clicking on this button clears the SRAM information. Do not select this button if you have made software changes that you want entered into the FLASH memory. Generally, this action is only required after changing the Communication Option or when the System Status prompts you for a Cold Reset Needed. Reset Clicking on this button resets the control board without clearing the SRAM information. Generally, this is only required when the System Status prompts you for a Reset Needed. Archive Clicking on this button writes the current SRAM information into the FLASH memory. It prevents loss of any recently-changed information in the event of an unexpected power loss, and is recommended after making any adjustments to the setup parameters. The archiving is complete when you see the word Operational shown twice in the System Status window. Archiving takes a few minutes. Verify that the unit is not interrupted during this period. Do not attempt to make any other changes to the system until this process is completed. If the archiving is interrupted for any reason, you will see an error message and will have to re-initiate the archive process. Using the Read/Write Window Overview Selecting the Read/Write button opens the Read/Write Screen, which allows you to view and alter data in the MicroTech II unit controller s Static Random Access Memory (SRAM). This function should only be used under the direction of McQuay Controls customer support or by advanced users who have a full understanding of how the changes will affect the controller and application program. The Object addresses, which are required to use this tool, will either be supplied by McQuay International Customer Support, or they can be looked up in the published MicroTech II Protocol Information documents (ED for applied rooftop units and ED15061 for vertical self-contained units). The Read/Write Screen The Read/Write screen has four information fields, which are used for reading and writing to a parameter: Full Reference Name (Excluding Device Name), Property ID, Write Data, and Response fields. Here is what must be entered (or can be read from) each field: 10 UM 734-6

Full Reference Name Notice that the Full Reference name (which is found in the MicroTech II Protocol Information documents) is made up of three basic parts: the Device Name, the Object Name, and the Property Name. Here is a typical Full Reference Name and its component parts: Full Reference Name Device Name Object Name Property Name MTII RTUC #########.Applications.McQ.RT.Damper Ctrl.OA Damper Pos.Present Value Device name This is the unique name that may be factory or field assigned to each MicroTech II unit controller. It helps to identify the particular board when it is installed as part of a control network. Factory-assigned names indicate the board type (MicroTech II), the unit type (RTUC), and a unique 9-number string (#########). Object Name This is the native BACnet name of the particular object or control point being referenced. Property Name This is a description of the particular input or output information being referenced. Property ID This is the number that corresponds to the information about the parameter that you are trying to read. In the example above, the information that is being requested by the Property ID is the Present Value. The Property ID that corresponds to a Present Value output is 85 (as found in the respective Protocol Information document). Data Write When writing a new value to a parameter, the value that is to be written must be entered in this box. Response This box displays the parameter s current value as read from the unit controller. Example: Reading a Parameter s Current Value To read the outdoor-air damper position on a MicroTech II applied rooftop unit, follow these steps: 1. In the Full Reference Name (Excluding Device Name) box, there is a drop-down dialog box, which serves as a shortcut to minimize the amount of typing required. Since it is not necessary to enter the Device Name, select the proper first part of the Object Name from this box. Example: MTII RTUC #########.Applications.McQ.RT.Damper Ctrl.OAD Min Pos Reset AV.Present Value 2. Type the remainder of the Object Name in the box. Example: MTII RTUC #########.Applications.McQ.RT. Damper Ctrl.OAD Min Pos Reset AV.Present Value The box for typing in the remainder of the Object Name is case and space sensitive. UM

Enter the proper Enumeration (number) in the Property ID box for the parameter you wish to read. In this case the value that was accessed (the Property Name) is Present Value. The Enumeration (assigned number) for Present Value (as found in the respective Protocol Information document) is 85. Enter 85 in this box. Click on the Read button. When the read is successful, a Success in Reading message will appear on the screen. Click on OK to acknowledge this message. The current value of the outdoor-air damper position should now be displayed in the Response field. If the Success in Reading message does not appear, repeat steps 1 through 5 using the proper case and spacing. Example: Writing a New Value to a Parameter To write a new value to the outdoor-air damper minimum position setpoint on a MicroTech II applied rooftop unit, follow these steps: 1. In the Full Reference Name (Excluding Device Name) box, there is a drop-down dialog box, which serves as a shortcut to minimize the amount of typing required. Since it is not necessary to enter the Device Name, select the proper first part of the Object Name from this box. Example: MTII RTUC #########.Applications.McQ.RT. Damper Ctrl.OAD Min Pos Reset AV.Present Value 2. Type the remainder of the Object Name in the box. Example: MTII RTUC #########.Applications.McQ.RT.Damper Ctrl.OAD Min Pos Reset AV.Present Value The box for typing in the remainder of the Object Name is case and space sensitive. 1. Enter the proper Enumeration (number) in the Property ID box for the parameter you wish to change. In this case the value that was written to (the Property Name) is Present Value. The Enumeration (assigned number) for Present Value (as found in the Protocol Information documents) is 85. Enter 85 in this box. 2. Enter the new desired setpoint value in the Write Data field Click on the Write button. If prompted, enter the User Name and Password. When the write is successful, a Success in Writing message will appear on the screen. Click on OK to acknowledge this message. The new value of the outdoor-air damper position setpoint should now be displayed in the Response field. If the Success in Writing message does not appear, repeat steps 1 through 5 above using the proper case and spacing. Clearing an Alarm To clear an alarm, do the following: 1. Select the Alarm control button. 2. Under the Alarms Control Parameters table, select >> next to the alarm you wish to clear. This opens a window that asks whether you would like to clear that alarm. The choices are OK and Cancel. 3. Select OK. 12 UM 734-6

Using the Calibrate Mode After any download, it is necessary to perform a system recalibration. This procedure directs all of the actuators on the unit to open fully and then close so that the unit controller can read each actuator s current position. It also sets the zero point for any static pressure sensors in the unit. To recalibrate the system: 1. 1.Select the Control button Select the Manual button. 3. Under the first table, Basic Setup, double-click on the >> next to Calibrate Mode. This opens a window with a pulldown which allows the selection of Yes or No. 4. Select Yes and click on the Write button. This starts the calibration cycle. 5. When calibration is finished (Success in Writing message shows), click on the Main button (still in the Control screen). 6. Under the first table, Unit Setup, double-click on the >> next to Control Mode. This opens a window with a pulldown, which allows the selection of numerous options. 7. Restart the unit by selecting the option which applies to your situation (most commonly, Auto). Changing Network Communication Parameters Not every building automation system (BAS) uses the standard BACnet configuration string to address each individual MicroTech II unit controller. In this case, use ServiceTools to set up unique communication parameters for each unit controller. The system integrator is responsible for specifying the exact address changes. The following steps define the procedure for making address changes: 1. Direct connect ServiceTools to each MicroTech II unit controller in the BAS, and then enter the specified unique network communication parameters. 2. To start, select the Network control button on the ServiceTools screen. This will open the Network Configuration screen. 3. Scroll down to the Common Properties table. a. To change the Device Instance, for example, double click on the >> box to the left of the words Device Instance. This opens another box where the new instance number can be entered. b. Type the specified number and click on Write. c. Do the same thing for all other specified changes, opening and entering the numbers in their respective boxes. d. Before going on to enter address parameters in other control boards, perform an Archive on each board so the changes are permanently written into flash memory (see the Writing to Memory section in this document). This new address information will be lost when performing a Download and Configure. Before performing a download, verify that you have recorded these unique numbers so they can be re-entered. UM

Troubleshooting Tips If you receive an error message indicating that the connection has not been made, or if you cannot the program, check the following: 1. Close ServiceTools and check that your PC-to-PC connection is not already open and that Site Book does not appear in your Task Bar. Then reopen ServiceTools Confirm that the Windows and ServiceTools setup steps (as found on the ServiceTools installation disk) have been configured properly for your operating system. Check the quality of the connection between your PC and the MicroTech II unit controller, as well as the integrity of the null-modem serial cable. Reboot your computer to remove the possibility that another program(s) is operating and affecting the connection. Check if any programs automatically open upon Windows startup that take command of the serial port (such as a fax or hand-held schedule device program). It may be necessary to remove these programs from your Start Menu. Certain programs may add duplicate registry entries that conflict with the operation of ServiceTools. If this is the case, it may be necessary to remove that program and its associated registry entries. Please refer to Known Program Conflicts listed below. Confirm that your PC and Windows version meet the requirements specified in the Readme.txt file on the installation CD-ROM. Verify that Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later is installed on your PC. To check the version, (depending on which version of Windows you have installed) follow one of the following methods: RIGHT click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Select Properties, then the General tab. The version of Internet Explorer should be shown after the letters IE (example: IE 5.50). OR Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then System Information. In the System Information box, select Internet Explorer. The version will show up in the top of the box on the right. To upgrade to the proper version of Internet Explorer, follow the instructions on the ServiceTools installation disk. Validate that the Internet Explorer Security settings do not have you locked out. RIGHT click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop. Select Properties. Select the Security tab. Select the Custom Level button. Scroll down to the Active X options and select Enable for both. Close Windows and reboot. (See the figure below.) 14 UM 734-6

10. Refer to the Troubleshooting Guide shown below. Troubleshooting Guide Error/Condition Problem Solution Errors during install or errors reported in communication and download when using Windows 98. Errors during install or errors reported in communication and download when using Windows NT 4.0 The version of Windows OLE files may be outdated. May not be using Windows 98 Second Edition. A service pack earlier than 6.0a is used for Windows NT. An update of those files is available at Microsoft Web site: The update package is called DCOM98.EXE. Reinstall the tool after running the update package. Upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). The update is available from the Microsoft NT workstation web site: Reinstall the tool after updating the Service Pack. On all operating systems, you cannot add a direct or dial-up site to the Site Book. When attempting to add a site to Site Book received the error: Unable to read RAS entries. RAS (Remote Access Service) is not installed on your computer. Dial-Up Networking is not installed on the computer. Install RAS from Control Panel. RAS may be installed or upgraded later, without having to re-install the tool. Install Dialup Networking (see application notes: Direct Connect and Dial-Up on Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 ). You do not have to reinstall the tool. UM

Error/Condition Problem Solution With a direct serial connection, cannot connect to the device using Site Book. Incorrect Site Definition. Disconnected from site due to Remote Access Service (RAS) error code 721: Remote PPP peer is not responding. With a direct serial connection, the browsing device fails either because it cannot connect to the site, or a download/upload fails with error code 282. Download/ Upload unsuccessful. When browsing a device, the following error is reported: Device Read Error. Could not read device With a direct serial connection, when trying to upload or download, you get a popup window with RAS Error 731. With a direct serial connection, when trying to download code, you get the error message: Timed Out. Aborting status = 626. When attempting to download or upload, received RAS 680 error code. A message box is displayed showing the error message: Connection Lost. The port was disconnected by remote computer. Invalid PPP login ID and/ or password. Wrong network number. Site not defined in Site Book. The device name used in Site Book does not match the name of the MicroTech II device with which you are trying to communicate. The direct serial connection is connected to the MicroTech II device at the wrong baud rate. Connection speed is too slow. You are attempting direct serial communication, while the type of site in the Site Book is set to Dial-Up. The serial cable to the device was accidentally unplugged or the Internet Explorer version is incorrect. Verify that the site used for connection is called SERIAL. Check that Connection field in the site book displays direct serial for this site. Verify that the Login ID and Password fields in the Site Book match the login ID and password in the MicroTech II device. Confirm that the network number entered in the Site Book does not match the network number of the site you are trying to connect. Add the SERIAL site to the Site Book as a Direct Serial site. Associate this site to the Windows phonebook entry created for direct serial connection between two PCs. Check the device that you add to the site has the same name as the one you with which you are trying to communicate. Name is case sensitive. You can communicate over a direct serial connection only if the baud rate defined for the device port to which you are connected matches the baud rate defined in the connectoid you are using for direct serial. If you are uncertain, try modifying the connectoid baud rate to 57,600. Use the baud rate of 57,600 for both the device and the connectoid for direct serial defined on your PC. Open the Site Book, highlight the SERIAL site and check its Connection attribute. Change it to Direct Serial if necessary. Check the cable connections. Also check the version of Internet Explorer. It may be necessary to uninstall the current version and reinstall the proper version from the ServiceTools CD. Version 5.5 with service pack B has caused some conflicts. 16 UM 734-6
