3 Centennial Discvery 2005 Hw t Upgrade Prerequisites In rder t upgrade t Discvery 2005, please ensure that yu have the fllwing: 1. Yur current installatin must be Discvery 4.51, 4.52 r If yu have an earlier versin, yu will need t upgrade t Discvery 4.51 befre yu can upgrade t Discvery Versin 4.51 can be btained frm the Centennial website Custmer Zne at: 2. Yur supprt maintenance agreement fr Discvery must be up t date. Please cntact yur Discvery partner fr details if yu are unsure. 3. Yur server must meet the minimum System Requirements fr installing Discvery The System Requirements are listed belw and are als available at: 4. Yu need a current backup f yur Discvery database. Details fr perfrming the backup are shwn belw. Nte: if yu are upgrading t Discvery 4.51 befre upgrading t Discvery 2005, yu will need a backup f yur system befre each step. 5. Yu need t lgin t the server(s) n which yu are perfrming the upgrade using an Administratr accunt. 6. Dwnlad the upgrade versin frm the Centennial Sftware website at: Ensure that yu have the crrect language versin if dwnlading. (The Discvery 2005 full installatin CD can als be btained frm yur Discvery partner.) 7. Ensure that yu have at least ne f yur license key cdes installed in yur current versin f Discvery t hand, as this will be requested during the installatin. 8. The upgrade may take several hurs t cmplete depending n the size f yur repsitry and the specificatin f yur server. During the upgrade, the Cntrl Center and data will be unavailable and the server will be unrespnsive. It is therefre recmmended that yu cmmence this prcedure at a time when yu will nt be requiring access t the Discvery system fr a while. Nte: Yu may be required t restart the server after the upgrade. IMPORTANT NOTES: i. If yu are using MSDE as yur database platfrm, the upgrade t Discvery 2005 culd well increase the size f yur database beynd the limit supprted by MSDE. It impssible t say exactly what size it will befre the upgrade but, as a rule f thumb, if the database is 750MB r greater befre the upgrade it may well exceed the June 2005 Page 4 f 8 Centennial Sftware Ltd

5 Centennial Discvery 2005 maximum size fr MSDE. This is als true fr the transactin lg, if that increases t greater than 2GB, MSDE will stp. The slutin is t upgrade t a full SQL system befre embarking upn the Discvery 2005 upgrade. ii. If yu intend migrating yur Discvery installatin t a new server, yu are advised t perfrm the migratin prir t upgrading. Fr details n hw t migrate a Discvery server, please cntact yur Discvery partner. Upgrade Prcedure Backing up Yur Existing Installatin Please ensure this backup is made immediately prir t cmmencing the upgrade. 1. Frm the Cntrl Center n the Discvery Server, select the Backup Repsitry ptin frm the File Menu 2. Select the path yu wish t save the backup t. 6 Centennial Discvery When the backup is cmplete, ensure the file is kept in a safe lcatin. 4. Backup the fllwing files and flders: The Cntrl subflder frm the Discvery installatin path. Nte: this flder will nly be present in secure installatins f versin 4.52 and Client.dat and userinp.dat files frm the ClientFiles flder. Yu can determine the lcatin f this flder frm the fllwing dialg in the Cntrl Center: Tls - > Settings -> System Settings Runmenu.dat frm the Discvery installatin flder Upgrading t Discvery If yu want yur Discvery installatin t use SDTM(Secure Data Transfer Mechanism) fr cmmunicatin between the clients and server, yu will need t ensure that IIS (Internet Infrmatin Services) versin 5 r later is installed and running n the server where yur Server and Transfer Agent are installed. 2. Befre cmmencing the upgrade, ensure that all Cntrl Centers, Web Cntrl Centers and ther links t the Discvery repsitry are clsed dwn. 3. If upgrading frm a dwnladed upgrade versin f Discvery 2005, simply run the executable file. 4. If upgrading frm CD, insert the CD int the CD drive and if they upgrade des nt start autmatically, run the setup.exe file n the disk. June 2005 Page 6 f 8 Centennial Sftware Ltd

7 Centennial Discvery When yu see the fllwing screen, select the Upgrade/Repair ptin 6. Cnfirm that yu have cmpleted the backup. 7. Yu will then be prmpted t verify yur user and cmpany name and t enter a valid key cde. This key cde can be any f the valid key cdes that yu have purchased t license Discvery and have installed in the current versin. 8. If yu are upgrading frm 4.51 a Generate Randm Seed pp-up windw will appear. Fllw the instructins t create the public/private key 9. The upgrade prcess may take several hurs during which the server will be unrespnsive and there may be n sign f activity n the screen. June 2005 Page 7 f 8 Centennial Sftware Ltd

8 Centennial Discvery Once the upgrade is cmplete, yu may be prmpted t restart the server. 11. When the server has restarted, pen the Cntrl Center t verify that the upgrade was successful. If yu experience any prblems with the upgrade prcess, please cntact yur Discvery partner. 12. Yu can nw upgrade any remte Cntrl Centers and Web Editin Servers yu may have. The prcedure t d this is the same as abve, but because the repsitry has already been upgraded, it will nt take as lng. 13. The client files in the ClientFiles flder will have been upgraded t Discvery The clients will still be the ld versin at this pint and will cntinue t wrk with the upgraded server until yu upgrade them. It is recmmended that yu d upgrade all the clients t Discvery 2005 in rder t take advantage f the new features in the prduct. 14. Yu can upgrade the clients t Discvery 2005 using the fllwing methds: a. If yu have upgraded frm a secure installatin that is using SDTM, the secure clients will autmatically upgrade t the server versin when yu next initiate an autmatic update. b. If yu are using CSETUP in lgin scripts t deply/update yur Windwsbased clients, they will upgrade t Discvery 2005 when each user next lgs in. c.
