Depending n the manufacturing date f the thin client yu have, the firmware level may be 07/17/00, 01/12/01, 07/16/01 r 12/06/01. Significant changes have been made in IBM NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7. T use the NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 n mdel N2200 and N2800 thin clients, the firmware level (12/06/01 r later) must be installed n these clients. An autmatic upgrade f the firmware has been implemented in fr clients with the 07/16/01 level firmware). Will the firmware be updated autmatically?

Yes, fr thse clients with firmware level 07/16/01, the firmware will autmatically be upgraded when the client bts t a server r flash card with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7. N, fr thse clients with firmware level f 01/12/01, 07/17/00 r 12/06/01. Therefre, the fllwing manual steps shuld be fllwed t upgrade the firmware n clients with thse levels f firmware: Hw d yu manually upgrade the firmware fr clients with the 01/12/01, 07/17/00 r 12/06/01 level? Fr manual upgrading f the firmware, special "btable" firmware images are prvided in the installatin n yur server with the fllwing files: Fr Mdel /nstatin/linux/bflash.2200 Fr Mdel /nstatin/linux/bflash.2800 T upgrade t the new firmware level, use the NSBt Setup Utility. When the client is starting t bt, after the message "Hardware testing in prgress" is remved, press the ESC key t start the NSBt Setup Utility and then fllw these steps: 1. If the screen presented has an ptin t press F5 fr Advanced Cnfiguratin, press F5 2. Frm the Advanced Cnfiguratin screen, select the menu ptin t "Cnfigure Netwrk Settings." and set all apprpriate netwrk envirnment ptins fr this thin client. 3. Press ENTER t cntinue t the "Change bt file server settings" screen. 4. Set the first Bt file server IP address t yur server IP. 5. Change the bt file server directry and file name by using the PAGE DOWN key t display a blank field and entering /nstatin/linux/bflash.2200 fr N2200 mdels, nstatin/linux/bflash.2800 fr N2800 mdels, and NFS as the prtcl. 6. Press ENTER as ften as needed until yu are back at the Advanced Cnfiguratin screen and then press F10 t rebt the thin client. Rebting will cause yur firmware level t be updated. Fllw the instructins during this prcess. D nt pwer ff yur thin client while the firmware is being updated. The firmware has been updated...nw what? If the firmware was updated autmatically, the settings yu had previusly will be preserved. Because the updated firmware has sme new menus, yu may chse t take a lk at it.

If the firmware was updated manually, yu may need t reset the bt prtcl and ther settings within the NSBt Setup Utility. As the thin client starts, press the ESC key just after the message "Hardware testing in prgress" has been remved. 7. Select the keybard type and display settings when prmpted. 8. Mve the cursr t highlight "Cnfigure netwrk settings" and press ENTER. If yu are nt using DHCP fr bth the client IP address infrmatin and netwrk cnfiguratin: 1. Disable this first ptin and enable the apprpriate netwrk pririty and fill in the values as needed 2. Select the bt file surce (flash fr flash bting and netwrk fr server r peer bted clients) 3. Set yur Prfile Server lcatin (default is bt surce). Press ENTER t exit this screen 4. If yu selected bt file surce as netwrk, yu will be prmpted t specify the IP address f the bt server alng with the bt path (the default is /nstatin/linux/kernel.2x00 and is crrect fr peer bt clients and is crrect fr server bted clients if the prduct was installed withut changing the default installatin path. Press ENTER t exit this screen. 5. If yu selected a Prfile Server ther than bt lcatin, yu will be prmpted t specify prfile server infrmatin. The default prt fr TCM Operatins Utility servers shuld be crrect unless yu have mdified yur installatin. Press ENTER t exit this screen. 9. Press F10 t rebt the thin client. Once the client is up and running, yu can use the Setup Utility r the TCM Operatins Utility t change the client's prfile server r bt surce (t switch the client t bt t/frm flash/server). Updating Flash Images frm NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux fr Mdel 2200 and Mdel 2800 Thin Clients It is necessary t perfrm a flash recvery t update yur flash card image frm the ld release. There are several suggested methds fr perfrming this update and they depend n the firmware level n the client. Hwever, befre yu use any methd, be sure t bt a client t the server with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 and setup the server settings and desktp settings required prfile cmpnents (see NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 Release in this dcument fr mre infrmatin n prfile cmpnents). Fr clients with firmware lder then 7/16/01,, use the TCM Operatins Utility t first upgrade the firmware t the current Linux firmware level and then rebt the flash bted client and perfrm the flash recvery. Fr clients with the 07/16/01 firmware, use the TCM Operatins Utility. Using the GUI interface yu can identify the clients with flash cards and have them all perfrm a recvery (and yu can schedule this task t run at a cnvenient time).

Fr clients with the firmware dated befre 07/16/01 manually upgrade the firmware (steps prvided previusly in this dcument) and then server bt t the server with the IBM NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 and perfrm flash recvery: Start the Setup Utility (press Ctrl+Alt+Shift) Click Management, Click Flash Recvery Enter the server IP cntaining the new release and click Cntinue Click the munt pint (/nstatin/linux) and click Cntinue Click n the desired flash image (be sure t specify a flash image with name starting as NetVista_2x00 as this identifies images fr the mdel 2200 and mdel 2800) and click Cntinue Click Cntinue n the cnfirmatin screen The client will be restarted and the flash card will be updated. Fllwing the flash card update, the client will be set t bt t the flash card. Fr clients with the 07/16/01 firmware, use the Setup Utility frm the flash bted client. This methd is nt difficult but is required t be perfrmed n each client. This methd can be used if yu have the NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux release and the 07/16/01 firmware. The flash card will be upgraded and the firmware will autmatically be updated if needed. On the flash bted client, start the Setup Utility (press Ctrl+Alt+Shift) and d the fllwing: Click Management, Click Flash Recvery Enter the server IP cntaining the new release and click Cntinue Click the munt pint (/nstatin/linux) and click Cntinue Click n the desired flash image (be sure t specify a flash image with name starting as NetVista_2x00 as this identifies images fr the mdel 2200 and mdel 2800) and click Cntinue Click Cntinue n the cnfirmatin screen The client will be restarted If the client is using the DHCP prtcl, the client will nt bt t the server withut the fllwing manual steps: Press the ESC key after an errr is displayed and then press any key when prmpted t d s t cntinue Use the dwn cursr key t highlight Cnfigure netwrk settings and press ENTER Highlight the field fr "Lcal (NVRAM)" and press the PageDwn key several times until the value is changed t Disabled Highlight the field fr "DHCP" and press PageDwn t switch the value t First Again, highlight the field fr "Lcal (NVRAM)" and press the PageDwn key several times until the value is changed t Override Press F3 t save and return Press F10 t rebt Yu may ntice the client bting twice. This is because the first bt t the server will cause the firmware t be updated. The secnd bt t the server will cause the flash card t be updated. Fllwing the flash card update, the client will be reset t bt t the flash card. Hw t Specify Bt Path Infrmatin Prtcl: IP Address frm DHCP r Static IP Thin Client Bt Path Settings fr Server r Peer Bt

Trap server settings (DHCP ptin 212) can als be set within a trap prfile cmpnent. In the event a client has received values fr trap server settings frm bth DHCP and a trap prfile cmpnent, the values within the prfile cmpnent will be hnred. And, fr this reasn, it is suggested yu use a trap server settings prfile cmpnent rather than the DHCP ptin. DNS settings (DHCP ptin 6) can als be set within the server settings prfile cmpnent. In the event a client has received values fr DNS frm bth DHCP and a server settings prfile cmpnent, the values within the prfile cmpnent will be hnred. 6 IDF Builder and SDF Creatr are tw applicatins that help in flash management. We ship fur default IDFs that can be used t create a flash card -- a 32 MB and 64 MB image fr the N2200 and N2800 mdels, and a 32 MB and 64 MB image fr the N70 mdel thin client: NetVista_2x00_Cmmunicatr4.x_ICA6.x_IBM3270_IBM5250_64MB.idf A 64 MB image fr the N2200 and N2800 mdels cntaining Netscape Cmmunicatr 4.x, ICA 6.x, bth the IBM 3270 and 5250 emulatrs, and peer bt supprt fr N2200 and N2800 clients. NetVista_2x00_ICA6.x_IBM3270_IBM5250_32MB.idf A 32 MB image fr the N2200 and N2800 mdels cntaining ICA 6.x, bth the IBM 3270 and 5250 emulatrs, and peer bt supprt fr N2200 and N2800 clients. NetVista_N70_Cmmunicatr4.x_ICA6.x_IBM3270_IBM5250_64MB.idf A 64 MB image fr the N70 mdel cntaining Netscape Cmmunicatr 4.x, ICA 6.x, bth the IBM 3270 and 5250 emulatrs, and peer bt supprt fr N70 clients. NetVista_N70_ICA6.x_IBM3270_IBM5250_32MB.idf A 32 MB image fr the N70 mdel cntaining ICA 6.x, bth the IBM 3270 and 5250 emulatrs, and peer bt supprt fr N70 clients. SDF Creatr is used t create sftware packages such as Netscape that yu wuld like t install n a flash card. IDF Builder is a tl that is used t create an IDF that includes a SDF that defines what will be placed n the flash card. These tls nly run n server bted clients. There is nline help fr these tls where yu can learn mre abut the tls and hw t use them. NOTE: A flash recvery is required t upgrade flash cards frm releases prir t IBM NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux. Custm Flash Images Yu can create custm flash images using the IDF/SDF Builder. Nte, if yu created custm flash images in the previus release, yu will need t recreate them in the new release. The previus release IDF and SDF files are lcated in the directry /nstatin/linux/ibm/update/.ld and can be used as reference (but they cannt be used with the IDF/SDF Builder tls in this release). N70 Flash Supprt

Yu can add a flash card t the N70 and use ne f the standard IDF files prvided r create a custm flash image. This N70 can als prvide peer bt supprt t ther N70 clients. Peer Bt Supprt The default IDF flash card images cntain peer bt supprt. This means, a thin client mdel N2200 r N2800 with a flash card can be used as a Master server prviding bt supprt t N2200 and N2800 clients withut flash cards. Similarly, an N70 with a flash card can be a Master server prviding bt supprt t N70 clients withut flashcards. In rder t use peer bt supprt, the Master must enable peer bt supprt. This setting is fund in the Services Prfile Cmpnent used by the Master. Nte, the bt path fr peer bted clients has changed frm the NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux release. It is nw the same as server bted clients: N2200 and N2800 peer bted clients specify bt path and filename: /nstatin/linux/kernel.2x00 N70 clients nly need t specify the bt path: /nstatin/linux NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 Release Prfile Cmpnents Prfile Cmpnents is a cncept that allws NetVista Thin Clients t save and retrieve their cnfiguratin infrmatin fr NetVista thin clients in a variety f places and then t manage thse cnfiguratins. In sme previus releases, NetVista thin clients culd nly save their cnfiguratin infrmatin t their bt lcatin (flash card fr flash bted clients and the bt server fr server bted clients).. The term prfile cmpnent means a "lgical set" f cnfiguratin infrmatin. Fr example, desktp settings is a set f infrmatin that defines the desktp -- it cntains cnfiguratin infrmatin abut the applicatins and desktp. There are many prfile cmpnents yu can cnfigure and use n the thin clients. Hwever, nly tw f them are required and if they are nt fund, the Setup Utility is autmatically started and the user is prmpted t setup these prfile cmpnents via a wizard like interface. The tw required prfile cmpnents are: Server settings - cntains the DNS and Time Server infrmatin Desktp settings - cntains the infrmatin regarding the desktp mde and the cnfiguratin f the applicatins available n the desktp. Fllwing is the cmplete list f user and wrkstatin prfile cmpnents: User Prfile Cmpnents

Desktp settings Windw manager Settings Netscape Settings Audi Settings Muse Settings Printer - User Settings Language/Envirnment Variables Wrkstatin Prfile Cmpnents Server Settings - DNS and Time Printer - Machine Settings Seriald Settings Trap Server Settings Munt Pint Settings Services - Telnetd, Peer Bt The prfile server identifies the server string the prfile cmpnents t be used. And, the prfile server types allw fr different naming cnventins t identify the prfile cmpnents t be sent t the client. Specifically, When the prfile server is the Bt Server r a Remte NFS Server, the prfile cmpnents sent t the client must be named DEFAULT (t btain system default prfile cmpnents), <CLIENT> fr wrkstatin prfile cmpnents, and <USERID> fr user prfile cmpnents. When the client requests wrkstatin prfile cmpnents, the prfile server will send all the <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents fund and send the remaining prfile cmpnents defined as DEFAULT. When the client requests user prfile cmpnents, the prfile server will send all the <USERID> prfile cmpnents fund and send the remaining prfile cmpnents defined as DEFAULT. When the prfile server is TCM Operatins Utility, the prfile cmpnents sent t the client can be named anything...hwever, in TCM Operatins Utility, yu must identify the client in a wrkstatin grup and the user in a user grup, and have prfile cmpnents assigned t these grups. When the client requests wrkstatin prfile cmpnents, the TCM Operatins Utility prfile server will send the prfile cmpnents assciated with the prfile grup the client is a member. If the client is nt defined in a prfile grup, the wrkstatin prfile cmpnents cnfigured as the defaults (nt named DEFAULT but rather cnfigured within TCM Operatins Utility as the default prfile cmpnents) are sent. When the client requests user prfile cmpnents, the TCM Operatins Utility prfile server will send the prfile cmpnents assciated with the prfile grup the user is a member. If the user is nt defined in a prfile grup, the user prfile cmpnents cnfigured as the defaults (nt named DEFAULT but rather cnfigured within TCM Operatins Utility as the default prfile cmpnents) are sent.

As yu can see there are many prfile cmpnents available t cnfigure and using prfile cmpnents can be a very pwerful and easy way t manage yur clients and users. It is essential the Administratr understands prfile cmpnents, the prfile server types, and the naming cnventins fr prfile cmpnents based n the prfile server lcatin. Fr additinal details, please see the dcument n prfile cmpnent available n the Hints and Tips web site (fllw the steps at the tp f this dcument t lcate this web site). Summary f Updated Supprt The mst current NS Bt firmware versin is 07/29/02. The 07/29/02 firmware better handles netwrk nise during the initial kernel lad. If yur hardware has the 07/16/01 level f firmware, the firmware will autmatically be upgraded when bting t NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 SU 2. T update frm ther versins f the firmware please reference the "Hw d yu manually upgrade the firmware sectin f this README. The perating system uses the Linux 2.4 kernel In additin, the fllwing applicatins are part f IBM NetVista with Turblinux 7: GDM Lgin and the ICE Windw Manager IBM JVM (versin 1.3) ICA Client (versin 6.x) Netscape Cmmunicatr ( versin 4.x) The fllwing supprt is in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7: Authenticatin methds - Additinal authenticatin methds alng with the ability t set the user's HOME directry n a remte server is prvided (see the details included later in this dcument). Language selectin - this setting is included in the Language / Envirnment Variables prfile cmpnent and includes Eur supprt. Screen lck - the settings in the Windw Manager prfile cmpnent allw yu t add the screen lck icn t the launch bar r enable the key sequence t activate the screen lck prgram. Seriald - this is cnfigured within the Seriald prfile cmpnent. RDATE time server prtcl supprt - the time server cnfiguratin is set in the Server Settings prfile cmpnent. Bth NTP and RDATE time server prtcls are supprted (nte that in this release, yu can use an RDATE time server withut any manual cnfiguratin). Flash Recvery while server bted - the Flash Recvery ptin within the Setup Utility is enabled fr Flash and Server bted clients. Wireless enablement - this is supprted fr N70 flash bted clients nly and requires manual cnfiguratin (see the details included later in this dcument). Munt pints - the ability t cnfigure additinal user munt pints is included in the Munt Pints prfile cmpnent. Migratin f Cnfiguratin Settings Frm NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux Release When yu install NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7, system defaults frm a NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 install will autmatically be migrated t the new prfile cmpnent

frmat. In additin, yu can elect t have the 6.07 release machine and user cnfiguratins migrated t the new prfile cmpnent frmat. The migratin f system defaults, client, and user cnfiguratin infrmatin takes place when the first client bts t the upgraded server. The upgrade prcess takes a few minutes and messages are displayed n the client in rder t keep yu infrmed f the prgress. Specific details regarding the naming f prfile cmpnents nce migrated and the manual steps yu may need t perfrm in rder t make use f the migrated prfile cmpnents is prvided further in this dcument. NOTE: A flash recvery is required t upgrade flash cards frm the NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 release. Included APAR Changes SA93569 SA94034 SA94035 SA94204 Crrected a prblem s that the hst name defined with the IBM NetVista Setup Utility will be used as the client's hst name. Crrected a prblem s the hst name is crrectly defined when flash bting. Crrected a prblem fllwing a change t the client IP address when the client was nt immediately restarted. The Setup Utility will nw autmatically rebt after the IP Address is changed s the user des nt need t remember t d s. Reslved the prblem which resulted in a lck file errr when using Netscape n peer bted clients. SA94237 Reslved the NFuse errrs that happen when HOME n the flash card is full. SA94278 SA94303 Crrected a prblem whereby the client was nt prperly failing ver t the backup DNS server defined in the Setup Utility. Crrected a prblem s that an Xterm that is started frm the setup utility can be clsed with a click n the term windw decratin 'x'. SA94335 Added the Swedish language t the keybards listed in the Setup Utility. SA94370 SA94372 SA94544 SA94575 SA94587 Reslved a print prblem fr flash bted clients by adding Ghstview t the prvided flash images. Crrected a prblem fr Finnish custmers s they n lnger need t manually set the LANG envirnment variable -- the Setup Utility nw allws fr a language prfile cmpnent and Finnish is ne f the selectable languages. Reslved a prblem whereby flash bted clients with nn-english keybards defined were smetimes getting English as the language setting. Crrected the definitin fr the German keybard such that the degree, "*", and "/" keys will behave as they are expected with a German cnfiguratin. Reslved a prblem in the emulatr SDF s that nw the emulatr SDF n lnger requires the Netscape SDF in rder t use the 5250 Setup Utility r 3270 Setup Utility n a flash card.

SA94588 Remved the need fr the strip cmmand t be available n the Linux server. T physically fit the 32 MB flash images nt a 32 MB cmpact flash card, the Thin Client binaries need t be stripped. The strip binary used during install was expected t be part f the Linux server cde. And, if the Linux distributin n the server did nt cntain strip, the Thin Client binaries wuld then be larger than they needed t be causing the 32 MB flash images t nt fit nt 32 MB cmpact flash cards. Authenticatin Supprt Additinal authenticatin methds are prvided with this release alng with enhancements t the existing authenticatin and nn authenticatin mdes. This means yu can cnfigure an authenticatin prfile cmpnents t use any f the fllwing methds: Nn Authenticatin With nn authenticatin mde, yu can nw specify whether r nt the client's hme directry persists between sessins. In additin, yu can specify different prfile user names fr the nn authenticated users in rder t btain different prfile cmpnents fr these nn authenticated users. Lcal Authenticatin With lcal authenticatin mde, yu can nw specify the lcatin f the user's hme directry -- it is n lnger restricted t reside n the authenticatin server. Lcal authenticatin is nt available n flash r peer bted clients. NIS Authenticatin (Linux server authenticatin) This new authenticatin methd allws users t authenticate t Linux servers (nt restrictive t bt server). Windws Authenticatin (CIFS/SMB) This new authenticatin methds allws users t authenticate t Windws servers. There are several key elements t understand the supprt and setup fr this authenticatin methd s be sure t read the infrmatin prvided further in this dcument regarding Windws Authenticatin. Windws Authenticatin Feature - Details... The Windws Authenticatin feature allws Linux thin client users t lgin using an accunt defined n a Windws server. This feature is enabled using the client Setup Utility under Wrkstatin -> Authenticatin Prfile. Windws accunts d nt have a Linux user ID (UID) r grup id (GID) assciatin. There are tw methds fr assigning UID/GID values t a Windws authenticated users. 1. Create a lcal accunt using kuser with the special wrd "cifsuser" included anywhere in the Full Name field. This tag indicates the user shuld be authenticated using the specified Windws authenticatin server but will use the UID, GID, and hme directry specified in the lcal passwd file. The lcal passwrd is nt used and shuld nt be set. Advantage: Administratr can assign a unique UID and GID.

Disadvantage: A parallel user accunt must be created n the client's bt server. The passwrd in the lcal accunt is nt used and des nt need t be synchrnized. 2. Use the cmmn UID/GID. If there is n lcal user accunt, but the username and passwrd are valid n the Windws authenticatin server, the user will be lgged in using the cmmn UID/GID. The user's hme directry will be /hme/<username> and will be created if it des nt exist. Advantage: Lcal accunt des nt need t be created in /etc/passwd. Disadvantage: Althugh users authenticated this way will have their wn unique hme directry, they will share the same UID/GID with ther users authenticated using this methd. This will allw them t read and write in each thers hme directries that share the same UID/GID. This may be a security risk depending n the custmer's implementatin. Nte: Lcal user accunts are still supprted and have pririty when Windws authenticatin is enabled. Supprted Windws Servers Windws NT 4 Server (PDC, BDC, r member server) Windws 2000 Server (Dmain Cntrller r member server) Cnfiguratin Parameters Parameter Descriptin Primary Windws authenticatin server. Yu must enter the Authenticatin Server server's hst name, nt IP address. Authenticatin Server Alternate Dmain Cmmn UID Cmmn GID Alternate authenticatin server t use if the primary server is nt available. Yu must enter the server's hst name, nt IP address. Windws dmain name. UID that is used fr all Windws authenticated users that d nt have a special entry in the lcal /etc/passwd file. GID that is used fr all Windws authenticated users that d nt have a special entry in the lcal /etc/passwd file. Limitatins Users in the lcal /etc/passwd have precedence ver users n the Windws authenticatin server. Windws usernames are nt case sensitive. Fr cnsistency in the Linux file system, Windws authenticated user names must be entered in lwercase letters. Passwrd length and cmplexity requirements are determined by the plicies n the Windws server. Passwrd change is nt supprted frm the Linux client if the authenticatin server is a Windws NT 4 Backup Dmain Cntrller (BDC) r a member server.

Yu must change the user's passwrd with User Manager n the authenticatin server. When lgged int the Linux client as rt, the passwrd fr a Windws user cannt be changed using the "passwd" cmmand r similar utility. The passwrd must be changed with User Manager n the authenticatin server. Use cautin when changing the cmmn UID r GID in the Windws authenticatin prfile in the setup utility. Changing these values after a user has already lgged in at least nce can remve access t their hme directry. It is best t select a cmmn UID/GID befre any Windws authenticated users lgin in. If the cmmn UID/GID values are changed, an administratr will need t update the wner and grup values fr all files and directries in any user's hme directry that were created with a different cmmn UID/GID. If a cmmn GID ther than the default f is used, the system administratr must add this GID t the file <install lcatin>/etc/grup where <install lcatin> is the directry where the client files are installed. NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Migratin Cnsideratins The migratin f system defaults, client, and user cnfiguratin infrmatin takes place when the first client bts t the upgraded server. The upgrade prcess takes a few minutes and messages are displayed n the client in rder t keep yu infrmed f the prgress. Fr servers installed with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 setup fr user authenticatin, the cnfiguratins fr userid rt will be saved as prfile cmpnent DEFAULT and if user cnfiguratins were selected t be migrated, they will be created as prfile cmpnents name <USERID>. Fr servers installed with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 setup fr nn authenticatin, the cnfiguratins fr the systemdefault be saved as prfile cmpnent DEFAULT and if machine cnfiguratins were selected t be migrated, they will be created as prfile cmpnents name <CLIENT> (where <CLIENT> is the MAC Address r IP Address f the client). A single Authenticatin prfile cmpnent will be created (named DEFAULT) with settings equivalent t the installatin mde f NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Similarly, a single Server Settings prfile cmpnent will be created (named DEFAULT) with settings including the time server infrmatin as defined by the system defaults in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 User Prfile Cmpnents Created During Migratin: Desktp Settings - This is a required prfile cmpnent and a DEFAULT is created during migratin based n the rt user settings fr authenticatin installatins and the system default settings fr nn authenticatin installatins. <USERID> and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents are created as apprpriate. NOTE: ICA Client sessins will nt be migrated t the desktp s yu will need t recreate them as needed. Windw Manager Settings - <USERID>, and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents are created as apprpriate. The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created during migratin if the rt user had ICE Windw Manager settings in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07

Netscape Settings - <USERID>, and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents are created as apprpriate. The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created during migratin if the rt user had Netscape preferences in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Audi Settings - <USERID>, and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents are created as apprpriate. The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created during migratin if the rt user had audi settings in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Muse Settings - <USERID>, and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents are created as apprpriate. The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created during migratin if the rt user had muse settings in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Printer - User Settings - The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created during migratin if the rt user had printer settings in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Language/Envirnment Variables - <USERID> and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents will be created during migratin. The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created based n the rt user settings fr authenticatin installatins and the system default settings fr nn authenticatin installatins. Nte hwever, these prfile cmpnent will cntain envirnment variables nly as language settings are new this release. Als nte, the default language fr the thin client is based n the keybard language if the language setting is nt fund in this prfile cmpnent. Wrkstatin Prfile Cmpnents Created During Migratin: Server Settings - DNS and Time - N prfile cmpnent is created during migratin. As this is a required prfile cmpnent, the Setup Utility will autmatically start n the next client bt and will prmpt yu via the wizard like interface t create this prfile cmpnent. Printer - Machine Settings - The DEFAULT prfile cmpnent is created during migratin if the rt user r system default fr nn authenticated installatins had printer settings in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Seriald Settings - N prfile cmpnent is created during migratin as this supprt is new. Authenticatin Server Settings - Only the system DEFAULT is created during migratin and it cntains settings based n the NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 installatin (authenticatin r nn authenticatin ). Trap Server Settings - N trap server prfile cmpnents are created during migratin. Munt Pint Settings - N prfile cmpnent is created during migratin as this supprt is new. Services - Telnetd, Peer Bt - DEFAULT, <USERID>, and <CLIENT> prfile cmpnents will be created during migratin, hwever, they will cntain the setting fr Peer Bt nly as the ability t set Telnetd services is new this release. After the migratin prcess cmpletes, the prfile cmpnents created are stred at /nstatin/prfiles/user and /nstatin/prfiles/machine n the server. Further actin is needed by the Administratr in rder t fully deply these prfile cmpnents. The prfile cmpnents created during the migratin prcess can be mved t a TCM Operatins Utility server s they can be managed and assigned t user and client grups. Specifically, the directries n the TCM Operatins Utility server where the prfiles shuld be cpied t are /NetVista/TCM/prfiles/user/ /NetVista/TCM/prfiles/machine/ ICA Client sessins will nt be migrated t the desktp settings prfile cmpnent s yu will need t recreate them as needed.

Wrkstatin r user specific settings will be created as <CLIENT> and <USERID> prfile cmpnents. In rder t use these prfile cmpnents, yu may need t rename them accrdingly. In general, installatins with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 cnfigured fr Authenticatin migrate withut the need fr manual renaming f prfile cmpnents by the Administratr. If yur installatin with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 was setup fr IP Addressing (rather than MAC Addressing fr wrkstatin cnfiguratins), yu will need t rename these prfile cmpnents as the NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 7 des nt supprt IP Addressing fr wrkstatin prfile cmpnents. Installatins with NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 cnfigured fr Nn Authenticatin require mre actin by the Administratr. Specifically, ntice that during migratin, sme user prfile cmpnents named <CLIENT> will be created because all f the settings were saved t client specific directries in NetVista Thin Client with Turblinux 6.07 Hwever, because these prfile cmpnents are user prfile cmpnents, they must be renamed t a USER name (such as KIOSK) if they are ging t be used by clients/users with an NFS prfile server (bt lcatin r remte NFS server). Regardless f the installatin, the type f prfile server yu use may als dictate renaming f prfile cmpnents. The prfile server identifies the server string the prfile cmpnents t be used. And, because the prfile server types allw fr different naming cnventins t identify the prfile cmpnents t be sent t the client, yu may need t rename sme prfile cmpnents. Specifically, When using the bt server r a Remte NFS server as the prfile server, the prfile cmpnents sent t the client must be named DEFAULT (t btain system default prfile cmpnents), <CLIENT> fr wrkstatin prfile cmpnents, and <USERID> fr user prfile cmpnents. When using a TCM Operatins Utility server as the prfile server, the prfile cmpnents sent t the client can be named anything...hwever, in TCM Operatins Utility, yu must identify the client in a wrkstatin grup and the user in a user grup, and have prfile cmpnents assigned t these grups. N70 Wireless Supprt fr Flash Bted Clients IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Adapter supprt is available fr the N70 flash bted clients. This 802.3b PCI Wireless Adapter ffers a slutin fr NetVista Custmers wh require wireless LAN capability in a Thin Client envirnment. This sectin cntains a general descriptin f the steps required t setup the wireless envirnment. Mre details n the wireless parameters can be fund at T enable wireless n the flash bted N70 client, tw ptins are described. The secnd ptin requires mre cmmands t run but allws the user a little mre flexibility. When using a wireless LAN cnnectin, please nte the fllwing:

1. The flash recvery and update ptins are nt supprted and shuld nt be used. 2. The prfile server must be the lcal flash (bt lcatin) -- prfile cmpnents must be stred and retrieved frm the flash card. Setup Steps fr Bth Installatin Methds: 1. Install the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Adapter in yur N70. Use the standard bracket and standard length antenna. 2. Pwer n the N70 and it shuld bt and present the "IBM NetVista Thin Client Cnfiguratin Prgram" screen. Set the fllwing parameters t the values utlined belw: Cnfiguratin --> Static IP Address Netwrk Adapter --> Ethernet Bt Mde --> Lcal Client IP --> Mve the cursr t highlight the Save ptin and press ENTER t save the changes and cntinue the bt sequence. 3. The system shuld cntinue t bt t the "IBM NetVista Setup Utility". In the Setup Utility, cnfigure the applicatin as apprpriate, keep in mind that: Prfile Server must be the bt lcatin (lcal flash) -- prfile cmpnents must reside n the flash card. Yu will need rt access t an Xterm t cmplete cnfiguratin f the wireless adapter. Set the apprpriate DNS fr the wireless netwrk in the Server Settings prfile cmpnent (yu can change this prfile cmpnent by using the Setup Utility menus Prfiles->Wrkstatin Prfile Cmpnents->Server Settings - DNS and Time. Installatin methd 1 (recmmended): Running as user rt, execute the fllwing steps: 1. Cpy the sample wlan cnfiguratin file (/etc/wlan.cnf.sample) t file /cnfigs/wlan.cnf 2. Edit /cnfigs/wlan.cnf file. Outlined belw are the sectins f this file that need mdificatin and the symbl --> indicates the particular settings that will mst likely need changing. Nte, there are tw settings that are needed fr the initial run: First set the SSID t yur AP's SSID. Then set the WEP settings accrdingly. Subset f /cnfigs/wlan.cnf -- first sectin t edit: ========================================================= --> USER_MIBS="p2CnfRamingMde=1 \ --> p2cnfownchannel=6 \ --> dt11desiredbsstype=infrastructure" #=======WEP=========================================== # [Dis/En]able WEP. Settings nly matter if PrivacyInvked # is true --> dt11privacyinvked=true # true false dt11wepdefaultkeyid=0 # dt11excludeunencrypted=true # true false, in AP this means WEP # is required fr all STAs # If PRIV_GENSTR is nt empty, use PRIV_GENTSTR t generate # keys (just a cnvenience) PRIV_GENERATOR=/sbin/nwepgen # nwepgen, Neesus cmpatible

PRIV_KEY128=false # keylength t generate --> PRIV_GENSTR="snpy" Subset f /cnfigs/wlan.cnf -- secnd sectin t edit: #=======STA START===================================== # SSID and authtype are all we have fr nw AuthType="pensystem" # pensystem sharedkey --> DesiredSSID="linux-wlan" ========================================================= 3. If static IP address are used in the cnfiguratin f the wireless lan, edit the /cnfigs/rc.lcal file and add the fllwing cmmands: /etc/rc.d/init.d/wlan start wlan0 ifcnfig wlan0 <IP> netmask <netmask> bradcast <bradcast> rute add default gw <gateway> 4. If DHCP is t be used fr IP address, edit the /cnfigs/rc.lcal file and add the fllwing cmmands: /etc/rc.d/init.d/wlan start wlan0 dhclient wlan0 /etc/rc.d/rc.ibm_ns.env /etc/rc.d/rc.ibm_ns.netcnfig 5. Verify the /cnfigs/rc.lcal and /cnfigs/wlan.cnf files have execute permissin, and then restart the N70. Installatin methd 2: Running as user rt, execute the fllwing steps. Nte the wlanctl-ng cmmand may require additinal parameters. 1. If static IP address are used in the cnfiguratin f the wireless lan, edit the /cnfigs/rc.lcal file and add the fllwing cmmands: insmd -f /lib/mdules/2.4.5-ibm/kernel/net/wlan/p insmd -f /lib/mdules/2.4.5-ibm/kernel/net/wlan/prism2_pci. wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autjin ssid=<ap's SSID> authtype=pensystem ifcnfig wlan0 <IP> netmask <netmask> bradcast <bradcast> rute add default gw <gateway> 2. If DHCP is t be used fr IP address, edit the /cnfigs/rc.lcal file and add the fllwing cmmands: insmd -f /lib/mdules/2.4.5-ibm/kernel/net/wlan/p insmd -f /lib/mdules/2.4.5-ibm/kernel/net/wlan/prism2_pci. wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autjin ssid=<ap's SSID> authtype=pensystem dhclient wlan0 /etc/rc.d/rc.ibm_ns.env /etc/rc.d/rc.ibm_ns.netcnfig 3. Verify the /cnfigs/rc.lcal and /cnfigs/wlan.cnf files have execute permissin, and restart the N70.

Other Ntewrthy Items Case sensitivity Be aware that Windws NTFS file naming is case insensitive whereas Linux file naming is case sensitive. Therefre frm a thin client pint f view, the creatin f the files PrjectExpansin and Prjectexpansin are tw different files if they reside n a Linux server, whereas they are the same file if they reside n a Windws server. Mdel N70 and Screen Saver Printing The screen saver setting is ignred when using the mdel N70. Hwever, the mdel N70 has advanced pwer management and therefre after ten minutes f inactivity, the pwer saver mde is engaged and the mnitr screen ges blank (any keybard r muse activity autmatically restres the previus screen cntents). The fllwing web site has helpful print supprt infrmatin: Behavirs t be aware f: Rt user id and screensaver cnfigured t lck Even when prperly cnfigured, the screensaver will nt lck the screen fr the rt user id. The wrkstatin shuld be lcked using the lck ICON r htkey sequence. The rt passwrd will nt unlck the screensaver lck running under anther users ID. If the signed in user cannt enter their passwrd, the Netwrk Statin shuld be rebted. Lcal Authenticatin with Windws Servers - Passwd and adduser cmmands If yu are using lcal authenticatin r have user infrmatin stred lcally in the passwrd file, using the passwd and adduser cmmands des nt wrk cnsistently when bted frm a Windws Server. If yu receive a "Critical errr - immediate abrt" errr after attempting t use the passwd cmmand r "adduser: unable t lck passwrd file" message when attempting t use t the adduser cmmand, yu may be seeing this prblem. Use the KDE User Manager (User Cnfig frm the ICE menu r type 'kuser' frm an Xterm windw), where yu can cnfigure users and change user passwrds fr lcal authenticatin setups. If yu d receive either f thse errr messages after using either passwd r adduser, there will be lck files created in yur /etc directry. As rt, yu may delete thse files. There are five different ptential lck files: passwd.lck shadw.lck pwd.lck spwd.* pwd.%d.*

Nte: Bth the spwd.* and pwd.%d.* files are created with the prcess id (*) as part f the file name, s yu wuld see names like spwd.317 and pwd.%d.317. Mdel N2800 Flash Bted Clients -- Rebt/Lgut When lgging ut frm a flash bted N2800 (the lgut menu item is available n the launch bar when set in the Windw Manager prfile cmpnent), the client will actually perfrm a rebt. The reasn fr this is t avid a hang cnditin which wuld require a rebt t crrect the prblem. Mdel N70 and Installing RPMs Installing an RPM frm an N70 thin client will nt wrk withut first remving a symblic link and creating a directry. Frm the N70 thin client, pen an Xterm sessin and issue the fllwing cmmands (when running as rt user): rm /var/lib/rpm mkdir /var/lib/rpm Fllwing these tw cmmands, yu can successfully install an RPM frm the N70 thin client. Mdel N70 and ICA Audi Supprt When using a mdel N70, the ICA audi supprt is currently limited t high quality audi. IBM has infrmed Citrix f this situatin. T set the audi quality fr ICA, start the ICA Remte Applicatin Manager (we recmmend making the change t the Desktp Settings Prfile Cmpnent). Start the Setup Utility Click Prfiles and then click User Prfile Cmpnents Click Desktp Settings and click n the currently highlighted desktp setting (r lad the prfile yu want t change) Click n 'Start ICA Remte Applicatin Manager' buttn (this will be n the screen presented if yu have a single desktp mde therwise yu will first need t click n the ICA r ICA Remte Applicatin Manager item fr the launch bar selectins and click Mdify t get t the screen with this buttn). Click Cntinue n the panel explaining the ICA Remte Applicatin Manager will be started in preview mde Select the cnnectin yu want t mdify Click Entry and then click Prperties Click n the tp-mst buttn which current says Netwrk and select Cnnectin On the screen presented, lk at the values set fr "Enable Sund" and "Quality" and make the desired changes. ICA Client Sessins Started frm ICA Remte Applicatin Manager ICA sessins with descriptins that include blank spaces will nt start frm the ICA Remte Applicatin Manager.
