2 Windws XP select the tab "Wireless Netwrks" and activate the checkbx "Use Windws t cnfigure my wireless netwrk settings" in the sectin "Preferred netwrks" select "eduram (Autmatic)" r chse "Add..." t type "eduram" manually. and select "Prperties". select the tab "Assciatin" in the drpdwn-menu "Netwrk authenticatin" chse WPA2 r "WPA-Enterprise", in the drpdwn-menu "Data encryptin" chse AES (preferred) r "TKIP". g t the tab "Authenticatin" in the drpdwn-menu "EAP-type" select "Prtected EAP (PEAP)" r PEAPv0 and deactivate any checkbxes n this tab: than n the same tab select "Prperties" and activate "Validate server certificates". 3 Windws XP finally select "Secured passwrd (EAP-MSCHAP v2)" as "Authenticatin methd" and chse "Cnfigure..." in the windw abve t uncheck the bx "Autmatically use my Windws lgn name and passwrd...": click the "OK" buttn. nw change t the tab "Cnnectin" and activate the bx "Cnnect when..." In this case yur ntebk will cnnect autmatically with the WiFi-netwrk as sn as yu are near ne f ur access pints. If yu dn't want t cnnect autmatically, uncheck the bx. Generally the autmatic cnnectin shuld prve mre cmfrtable. Clse all windws by selecting the "OK" buttn. CONFIGURATON OF CONNECTION AT FIRST TIME USAGE Open "netwrk cnnectins" as described in the first step (start buttn -> settings -> netwrk cnnectins). select yur WiFi netwrk cnnectins with the right muse buttn select "View available wireless netwrks" , ffice@mci.edu, 3

4 Windws XP click n "eduram" and "cnnect": The cnnectin t WiFi will start autmatically. If yu have cnnected t WiFi befre, the cnfiguratin is finished by this step, if nt, yur username and passwrd will be required. In the status bar the fllwing text will pp up after a few secnds: "click here t select a certificate r ther credentials fr cnnectin t the netwrk eduram": Click n the WiFi-symbl in the status-bar t pen the windw "Enter Credentials":. Students: type yur user-id (e.g. dj1234@mci4me.at) and yur passwrd. Please nte: if yu never changed yur default passwrd t a new passwrd (r changed yur passwrd n r befre June 20th, 2010) change it n MCI staff: type yur user-id (e.g. jed@mci4me.at) and yur passwrd. KNOWN PROBLEMS Many prblems are caused by utdated driver sftware. Please install the mst recent driver sftware fr yur WiFi hardware. D nt use the driver sftware prvided by yur ntebk manufacturer, but the ne prvided by yur WiFi-hardware manufacturer, because they generally prvide the mst recent driver sftware. Please use the pre-installed WiFi management sftware by Windws f yur device and d nt use alternative management sftware prvided by yur ntebk-manufacturer such as Sny Smartnetwrk r similar , ffice@mci.edu, 5
