6 Manage the printers for the application Manage the printers for the application Introduction The 'Printers' dialog offers you a quick overview of the available printers for this application. The printers in the 'Printers available for...' pane are available in the 'Print' dialogue of the application. Certain printers cannot be used by this application: Printers which are shared by another computer. Printers that print via the 'FILE:' port. Add a printer to the application 1. Select a printer in the 'Printers not available for...' pane. 2. Click the 'Add ->' button. The printer is available for the application. Note: You can add all printers with button 'Add all ->'. Remove a printer from the application 1. Select a printer in the 'Printers available for...' pane. 2. Click button '<- Remove'. The printer is not available for the application. Add a new printer 1. Click the 'New...' button. The 'Add Printer Wizard' dialog appears. 2. Follow the instructions to install a new printer. 6 Chapter 1 - Printer settings

7 Managing the printer settings Managing the printer settings Introduction The 'Printers' dialog offers you a quick overview of the available printers for this application. Use the 'Printer settings' dialog to define the printer specific settings for each installed printer. These printer specific settings will be available in the 'Print' dialog of this application. Manage the printer settings To manage the printer settings, select the printer and click 'Edit'. Manage the printer settings# Setting 'Available queues' 'Available destination' 'Remove unused cyclic media' Description Define the queue settings for the selected printer. The queue settings are printer dependent. Define which paper output locations of this printer are available for the users. The output options are printer dependent. These configured output locations are available in setting 'Output location' on tab 'Finishing' in the 'Print' dialog. Define which destinations of this printer are available to send the unused cyclic media of a job to. The destination options are printer dependent. These configured output locations are available in setting 'Output location for unused cyclic media' on tab 'Finishing' in the 'Print' dialog. Chapter 1 - Printer settings 7

8 Managing the printer settings Setting 'Adobe Acrobat settings' 'Printing preferences' Description Define options for Adobe Acrobat: 'Far East fonts:' Select this option if you want to include Far East fonts. 'PostScript level:' Select the PostScript level of the printer. Available options are 'Level 2' or 'Level 3'. 'Emit fonts:' Select option 'All fonts' to add all used fonts to the print file. This will lead to a larger print file. Select option 'Embedded fonts' to add only the embedded fonts to the print file. For fonts that are not embedded, the printer will check if the font is installed on the printer. If not, the font will be replaced by a font that is installed on the printer. Define which printing preferences you want to use: 'Let Windows set the printing preferences' The default settings for this printer are used. These settings are stored on the Windows system. 'Let this application set the printing preferences' You can change the printing preferences for all documents which are printed with this application. Click the 'Edit preferences' button to change the printing preferences for all documents which are printed with this application. Click the 'Reset preferences' button to reset the printing preferences. Now, the default printing preferences are used. These settings are defined via the Windows system. 'Enable the driver settings button in the print dialog': When you select this option then the printing preferences button is added to the 'Print' dialog. Enable this button when the printer is a color printer. This button gives access to the color and image settings of the color printer. 8 Chapter 1 - Printer settings

9 Managing the printer settings Setting 'Media catalog' Description Select option 'Printer supports media catalog export' when the printer can receive the media catalog from this application via a network. 'Upload to URL:' Define the URL of the printer. For example: 'Connection timeout (ms):' Define the connection timeout in ms. 'Supported media catalog operations:' - 'Replace': You can replace the media catalog on printers with controller version 1 and version 2. - 'Replace or merge': You can replace or merge the media catalog on printers with controller version 2.
