5 TURNING ON/OFF ipad ON: hold down the Sleep/Wake button on the top right-hand corner of the ipad until you see the Apple logo appear in the middle of the screen. Slide the unlock bar across and release. OFF: hold down the same button until asked to power off by sliding unlock bar.

6 GENERAL SETTINGS Tap on Settings / General Make sure you are familiar with what all (1-15) Actual layout may vary by device depending on what you have installed

7 MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS Tap on Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars You can add accounts and what to sync per account (mail, contacts, calendar, reminders, etc.)

8 SETTING A PASSCODE ON YOUR IPAD Tap the Settings icon Tap the General tab Tap Passcode Lock Turn Passcode On Choose a 4 digit passcode

9 SAFARI INTERNET BROWSING Safari is the Internet browser used on Apple devices.

10 GET A BIGGER KEYBOARD IN SAFARI Before you begin browsing, rotate the ipad horizontally. Now tap the address bar and you ll get a wider keyboard.

11 SAVE IMAGES IN SAFARI/MAIL Touch and hold an image in Safari or Mail. An action menu will appear to enable you to save the image. The image will get stored in the Saved Photos library of the Photos App.

12 BOOKMARK Open Safari and go to the webpage you want to add an icon for. Next to the address box is a rectangle with an arrow coming out of it. Tap this icon. It gives you 4 options: add bookmark, add to home screen, mail link to this page, or print. Tap Add to Home Screen. You can change the name that will appear under the icon if you choose to. This will put an icon on your home screen so that you have a short cut to the web site.

13 TAKING PICTURES WITH YOUR ipad Tap the camera icon on the home screen. You will see the camera shutter then a live view. To switch cameras from back to front, tap the camera with the arrows going around it in the top right corner. You will now see yourself. Choose back or front camera. Click the camera button to take the picture. To see the picture full size, tap the small picture in the bottom left. Swipe left or right to view all photos in your camera roll. To get back to your pictures once you have closed the camera App, tap the photo icon at the bottom of the home screen.

14 TAKING VIDEOS WITH YOUR IPAD Tap the camera icon on the home screen. In the bottom right corner is a slider with a picture of a camera and a video camera. Tap the video camera. Choose front or back camera. To record, tap the red button in the center bottom of the screen. The red light will flash while recording. Tap it again to stop recording. To view the recording, tap in the bottom left on the small rectangle and tap the play button. Your videos will be saved into your camera roll. To access them simply tap the video icon.

17 HOW MANY APPS CAN I HAVE? If you have 16 gigabytes of storage space on your ipad : The most screens (pages) your device can display with applications is 11 screens. Up to 6 Apps in the Dock. You can load more applications onto the device, but if you want to use them, you will need to search for them in the Search/Spotlight screen.

18 FIND AND DOWNLOAD FREE APPS Open the App Store on your ipad. In the search box at the top right, type the App you are looking for. Then tap Search on the keyboard which will bring up a list of Apps. Choose the App you want to download. Tap Free, then click Install App. The App will download and an icon will appear on your ipad.

19 ORGANIZE YOUR APPS You can organize your Apps any way that you like: alphabetically, most used, categories, etc. To move an App, hold your finger on top of the App until it starts to wiggle. Then just slide it where you want it. To delete an App from your device, hold your finger on the App and then tap the X to delete. (An X only appears on items that you can delete.) To stop the wiggling, press the Home button.

20 WANT THINGS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER? To reset your home screen and re-arrange all of your Apps into alphabetical order, go to Settings> General> Reset> Reset Home Screen Layout.

21 PUT APPS INTO FOLDERS When you have multiple Apps that fit into a category, you can create a folder for them. Hold down and drag one App icon on top of the other icon. You can name folder as desired.

22 MULTI-TASKING WITH APPS When working in one App and you want to access another App, just double-click the Home button which will bring up a scrollable dock. Cycle through and find the App; now you can work between multiple Apps!

23 HOW DO I FIND AN APP THAT IS ON MY ipad? Swipe LEFT from the home screen. This will bring up the search box. It will say search ipad. Type the name of the App for which you are looking.

25 POPULAR APPS (CONT ) Kindle (Get from itunes - Free) Gives users the ability to read Kindle books, newspapers, magazines, and PDFs Evernote (Get from itunes - Free) Capture your thoughts with this note-taking app, capture photos, create-to-do lists, record voice reminders, etc. Flipboard (Get if from itunes Free) Personal news magazine filled with everything from breaking news to your facebook and twitter feeds.

26 HOW TO CLEAN YOUR ipad Unplug all cables and disconnect the ipad from any accessories or docks. Turn off the ipad. Use a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth, but be sure not to allow moisture in any openings. DO NOT use window cleaners! These can damage the coating on the ipad screen and reduce the functionality of the ipad over time. Wipe the ipad in a circular motion and be sure that NO sand, dirt, or dust is on the cloth used to wipe the screen. As always, clean the ipad carefully and often so that it continues to look great and so that it retains its value over time. Another option to help keep your ipad clean is to use a screen protector.
