1 31T Uhttp://onedrive.lboro.ac.ukU31T. Windows 10 First Login Guide (Desktop PCs) Version 1.0 Introduction The first time you login to any Windows 10 PC you will see several messages and boxes. This guide will explain how to respond to them and help you to setup the Microsoft OneDrive client to ensure you have access to your documents, Internet Explorer favourites and anything else you wish to store on your personal OneDrive space. Microsoft OneDrive For Business Each member of staff at the University has 5TB of storage allocated to them on Microsoft OneDrive For Business. Files on here will follow you to any University-managed Windows 10 PC and will be accessible from any other device with a OneDrive client installed. They will also be available via Once you have followed the steps in this guide, the following locations will automatically save to your OneDrive space: Documents Internet Explorer Favourites Pictures Music Videos

2 First Login to a Windows 10 Staff PC 1. Login as your standard user account. The first login will take longer than usual while Windows configures your user profile and new Windows 10 applications. 2. Once the desktop appears, a dialog box will be displayed informing you that OneDrive requires configuring.

3 Follow the instructions in the dialog box to configure the OneDrive client to access your data. Once you have read the information, click Next to continue. If you see a dialog box informing you that you need to update OneDrive manually (as shown below), ignore it. The box will disappear after a few seconds. If another application prompts you to restart the PC before the OneDrive configuration has been completed, please ignore these prompts until your OneDrive client has been set up. This includes the McAfee encryption software, which may prompt for a reboot as part of its installation. If the OneDrive configuration does not appear automatically after login, please contact your local IT support or the IT Service Desk for assistance. 3. After clicking Next the Set up OneDrive window will be displayed. Click Sign in to continue. 4. Enter your University username and password if you are prompted for them. When the This is your OneDrive folder screen appears, click Next. 5. Select and de-select which folders you wish to synchronise with your PC. Any that are selected will be copied to your PC and can be accessed on it. Those that aren t selected won t be copied to your PC but will still be accessible through the OneDrive site. If you have a large amount of data, remember that your PC may not have enough space for all of them! You can change your selection later by going to your OneDrive folder, right-clicking and selection Choose OneDrive folders to sync.

4 6. Click Next when you have selected the required folders, and close the next window. 7. You will now be prompted to logout (the prompt may be behind another window that opened when you closed the last one). Log out of the PC, either by clicking the button on the prompt or by clicking the Start icon, hovering over the person icon and selecting Sign out. This is to allow your folders to be re-directed to save and access files to and from your OneDrive space. 8. Log back into the PC.

6 FAQs Where are my OneDrive files? Provided you have completed the above process and selected the files and folders you wanted OneDrive to download, they will appear in your Documents folder. This folder may keep the name Documents or it may be called OneDrive Loughborough University. This will be the default save/open location in many applications and is accessible from File Explorer. Folders being synced by OneDrive will have a green tick (for up to date) or blue circle of arrows (for sync in progress) on their icon. My PC was migrated from Windows 7 and I can t find a file/a file is out of date If this happens, open a File Explorer window and go to This PC -> Windows (C:) -> Users -> <your username>. In this location you will find your Documents, Favourites, Pictures, Music and Videos folders as they were when the PC was last on Windows 7. If the file(s) you are looking for are there, simply copy them to the relevant OneDrive folder. For example, something from C:\Users\<username>\Documents should be copied to your Documents\OneDrive Loughborough University folder. A picture you need from C:\Users\<username>\Pictures should just be copied to the Pictures folder. How do I get help if I need it?
