That s what one teacher exclaimed after using MimioStudio 9 software and its built-in ActivityWizard. MimioStudio 9 brings a new level of simplicity to interactive teaching. This new interactive software release includes the MimioStudio ActivityWizard, an innovation that allows users to generate activities and automatically populate them using the included knowledge engine. The exercise creator provides relevant subject matter content and templates identified by grade or age, so teachers can be confident they are building age-appropriate exercises into their lessons. In addition, this release includes new MimioStudio Gradebook scoring features and a firmware update for improved quality and performance. MimioStudio 9.1 is an update to the 8.01 software. This software update includes the new ActivityWizard, offered in 33 languages and adds new edit and update functionality. Detailed information about the new features and improvements can be found on the following pages. As always, you only need to learn a single software program to control all of your MimioClassroom products and you ll get up to speed quickly because it s so intuitive. page 2

3 New Features and Improvements Multi-language version ActivityWizard MimioStudio 9.1 includes the Multi-Language version of MimioStudio. MimioStudio is now localised in 33 languages with Norwegian and Finnish added to this software version. The ActivityWizard is a feature of MimioStudio software that allows teachers to insert an interactive student exercise as a new page within the MimioStudio Notebook file. Multiple activities can be sequenced to create a lesson. The ActivityWizard uses its built-in intelligent knowledge engine to draw from a comprehensive library of content and templates, and automatically populates the exercise with age-appropriate content. A new icon is available in the top toolbar ribbon to create a new activity as well as a listed option under the Insert menu. ActivityWizard edit functionality Activities created using the ActivityWizard now have an Edit button in the bottom left corner of the activity page. The Edit button offers increased flexibility for working with exercises using the following menu choices: Reset Answers Check Answers Solve Edit Update Choices page 3

Upon selection, the Choice Pool will automatically be repopulated with new items. This feature allows a student to perform the same exercise with a new set of answer possibilities without the need to recreate a new exercise. Grade and average values are now displayed using score-based points along with its calculated percentage. For example, the student s class average is shown as 86.0/100.0 (86.0%). This provides teachers with an immediate view to the weight of an individual test or assignment. Teachers may modify the total number of allowable points for any given test or homework or overall class. When a test created inside MimioStudio Notebook is printed, the weight of the test question will appear alongside the question text. page 4

For example, a user can set the worth of any question to 2,5 or 1,25 points. Performance improvements have been made to Gradebook reducing the amount of time to load class and student data. The Launch button (bottom button) on the MimioTeach bar can be programmed to support the New Page functionality used with MimioCapture. To program the button, complete the following steps: 1) Set the size of your whiteboard in MimioStudio Settings 2) Enable capture mode using one of the following methods: a. Touch the tip of any Mimio Capture Kit pen to the whiteboard b. Enable Ink Capture in the Settings dialog box to connect on file new or when any pen is used page 5

New eraser icon: MimioTeach performance and Firmware update This software version includes a MimioTeach firmware update to improve quality and performance as related to writing and calibration. Problems Fixed Listed below are the key problems fixed in this release. Along with these resolutions we have included minor enhancements and performance updates. Gallery folders appear in multiple languages Gradebook scoring Changed default state of Gallery content folders Switching between languages will no longer create additional folders in Gallery. Only the folders in the current language will appear in Gallery. Improvements to Gradebook scoring to improve the performance of using percentages and points for scoring. The MimioStudio Gallery now opens with all folders collapsed (with the exception of Question and Results ) as the default state. page 6

7 Hyperlink and Action settings behavior Adobe Flash Missing apostrophes When using Windows 7 x86 and increasing the resolution size, MimioStudio Notebook no longer crashes when a user assigns a hyperlink or action setting to an object. We recommend operating in 100% resolution. MimioStudio now bundles Adobe Flash (version 10) within its software allowing users to play Flash files seamlessly. This allows Flash files to work without interruption when Adobe releases a new version. Apostrophes now are displayed in Notebook files running on Linux Ubuntu. For example, youre will now be displayed as you re. Known Issues Running anti-virus software could impact installation Text recognition support Automatic audio/video playback limited support Installation of MimioStudio may be unsuccessful when antivirus software is running. We recommend turning off antivirus software while installing MimioStudio. The text recognition feature does not support the following MimioStudio 9.1 languages: Basque language Bahasa Indonesian Bahasa Malay Croatian Hindi Romanian Slovak Basque MimioStudio will no longer support the automatic playback of any multimedia file. MimioStudio 8 and above will use the CODECS from multimedia programs that are already installed on the user s computer. For example, for Windows users with Windows Media Player, MimioStudio will automatically play a WMV file inside Notebook. Similarly, MimioStudio will automatically play MOV files for Mac users with the default QuickTime program installed. Linux does have a default media player for MimioStudio to leverage. Users will be alerted by a pop-up dialog box when playback is not possible. page 7

8 No support for opensuse opensuse is no longer supported starting in MimioStudio 9 and above. Support for this operating system version is available with MimioStudio 8. For previous versions please visit: mimio.dymo.com/support/downloads/previousversions Nonsupport for Unity Linux (GNOME) Must have administrative privileges to use autoupdate No support for keyboard tools shortcut in Mac 10.6 Lessons have been removed from the default gallery MimioStudio 9.1 does not support Unity Linux (GNOME). Auto-update fails if the user does not have administrative privileges. MimioStudio will attempt to update and it will appear that the update has been successful. However, the software update will fail if administrative rights are not set. Shortcut keys to trigger keyboard tools are not supported in MimioStudio 8 and above on Mac 10.6 and above. Users can add the keyboard to the Mac menu bar by going into System Preferences Language and Text Input Sources tab and checking the Keyboard and Character Viewer input source. The icon to launch the keyboard viewer will appear on the menu bar. The Lessons folder from the Gallery has been removed. Please visit our interactive teaching community, MimioConnect (mimioconnect.com) to download complete lessons that are aligned to standards and span across core subjects. This impacts new MimioStudio users only. Existing users will continue to have the Geography folder in their default Gallery. page 8
