1 Clicker (Win/Mac) v.6 Creating a Matching Activity using Pictures from the Internet Introduction For some students and with certain topics you may want to use pictures you choose from the Internet instead of using the symbols in Clicker6 or the PCS meta-symbols. This tutorial assumes You have basic computer skills. You know how to launch Internet Explorer or another web browser. You know how to find Google or another search engine. You know how to right and left click a mouse. You know how to use a Clicker Grid once it s created. Learning Objectives Completion of this tutorial will give you experience with the following: Downloading and renaming pictures from the Internet Creating a file folder for those pictures Importing the pictures when making a Clicker gridset Case Study Jane is a grade student who uses Clicker6 and is learning about weather. The pictures for weather available in Clicker6 are too abstract for Jane to interpret. Her team would like to use more realistic pictures of weather from the Internet in making a matching activity for her. Copyright A discussion of copyright is beyond the scope of this tutorial. If you want to search for materials that have been licensed under Creative Commons or are in the public domain, a good place to start is the search section of the Creative Commons website at search.creativecommons.org. SET-BC of
2 Creating a Folder of Internet Pictures First, create a folder to hold your pictures. This example shows how to create a folder on your Desktop, but you can create the new folder elsewhere if you know how to do it. Right-mouse click anywhere on the Desktop. From the menu that opens, choose New and then Folder Type a name for the folder Find a picture you would like to use on the Internet. Open Internet Explorer or another web browser on your computer. Go to Google or another website containing pictures and type in a kind of weather in the search field. Click the search button. Click Images to search for pictures only. Remember to respect copyright if you will be publishing your work to curriculumset or another public space. A good place to search for CC photos is search.creativecommons.org 4 To save the picture: Right-mouse click on the picture. From the menu that opens, choose Save picture as... To rename the picture: Click in the File name: field Delete the current file name using the backspace key Type a new name for the file. 5 Navigate to the folder you created on the Desktop: Click the Desktop icon on the upper left of the window. 3 Double-click your Weather Photos folder to open it. Click Save to save the picture. 6 Repeat the process to save more pictures. Create a Matching Activity To create a new Matching Activity using the Clicker6 Quick Wizard: Launch Clicker6 From the Quick Start screen choose Make a Clicker Set. Tip: From any Clicker6 document, you can also choose Clicker Set, New Clicker Set from the top menu. From the Quick Page Wizards list, choose Matching. SET-BC of
4 From the drop-down menus, choose the type of target and choices you would like to use in your activity. The screen on the right will change to show you the effect of your choices. When you re finished making your choices, click Next. Tip: If you choose Sound, Clicker6 will automatically pick up the names of the pictures as the sound. Add Your Photos To add your photos: Click Add Pictures... Click Desktop Locate your Weather Photos folder and double-click to open it. Click Select All and then Insert to bring in all of your photos at once. Click Close to close the window. Tip: You can rename your photos by clicking on them. SET-BC 4 of
5 From the drop-down menu, enter the number of choices you would like to use in your activity. Then click Create. Your new grid is ready to use. Don t forget to save your grid! Go to Clicker Set, Save Clicker Set Your grid is ready to use. SET-BC 5 of
