2 Introduction And Goals Of This Guide What Is Webdav? Webdav is a file sharing protocol that is used to transfer files between web devices using http. Many mobile devices use this protocol to access network storage that is more securely maintained and backed up. Some notable applications on ios that use it include Apple s Pages and Numbers. Why is this important to me? The server that allows access to home/shared network folders over the web, is also a webdav server. This means that Y115 network files can be accessed via webdav enabled applications on ios, via network shares in Windows XP, and mapped drives in Windows 7+. Sadly, ios has no central area to enter webdav settings, and not all apps are webdav enabled. This means that these settings will, for the foreseeable future, have to be entered on a per application basis. What should I know before proceeding? So how do I use this feature and what s in this guide? In the instructions below, we will be connecting Apple s Pages, Windows XP, and Windows 7 to the myfiles.y115.org webdav server. The settings given will be usable in other applications, but the menu clicks to get to the settings area may be different. The settings, while shown in an Apple ios environment, will also work in Unix-based environments such as Android, Mac OS 10.X, and Linux.

3 Finding The Settings Before it is possible to connect to your home drive, you first need to find the settings you ll be using. This tutorial will give general instructions on how to map one generic drive will full access, but you may wish to map directly into one or more of these folders. This portion of the tutorial should give instructions on how to find the settings needed in the other tutorials. Log into Myfiles.y115.org To start with, login to A dialogue box will appear. Please enter your network login information to continue: Find the settings using the menu Once in, you should navigate to the folder you wish to map. Select the folder you wish to create a connection to. You should see a menu bar in the upper right hand corner that looks like the following: Select File> View, Edit and Sharing > Map Web Folders From here, a box will appear:

4 There is a lot of information on this screen. We will be covering the Microsoft Web Folders Update in the Windows Section along with several methods for drive mappings. For now, what we re interested in is the and drive lines. Mapping will give you a single folder mapping which will allow you access all your folders at work in one drive. This is useful if you only want to use these instructions once or if you re using an ios device. We will be using this URL for all examples in this tutorial. Mapping drive will map a folder that only gives you what is in your home directory and not shared folders. This is useful if you want to make your folder mappings match what you see at work when at a desktop. Connecting ios: Apple s Pages Save a file from IOS Open pages from IOS.

5 Click on the wrench in the upper right hand corner to open the tools menu Select Share and print

6 Select Copy to WebDAV Copy in to the forms the URL for the server, and your login information. Select your file type

7 Select your folder Select Copy and File Type

8 You have now saved your document to the network. Open a document from the network Go to the document viewer in pages and click the + icon. Select copy from WebDav

9 Since we already connected to the webdav server above, your folders should appear. Browse to the folder with your document and open it. It should now be available and syncable with the server. Any app that can connect via WebDav will be able to use the settings above. Sadly, not all ios apps use WebDav, so you may need to use other means for getting your data out.

10 Connecting Windows 7+ Windows 7 and beyond systems have a distinct advantage over Windows XP systems in that they allow mapping webdav folders as network drives. This allows access to network files as if they were local to the workstation. Any saves to the mapped drive are put back to the server and will be available upon login within the district. Patch Windows In order for this to work, we must install the Microsoft Web Folders patch from: Download the executable and run it on your system. A reboot may be required. Map Network Drive(s) Click on the start menu and Right Click on Computer and select Map Network drive. For Windows 8, click on the folder button from your desktop and locate the computer icon and right click it from there.

11 The following dialogue box will appear. From here, enter You should now get an authentication dialogue. Please enter your network credentials. After a few moments, the folder should appear.

12 You can now open work folders from home like you would any other drive. Connecting Windows XP Windows XP, at the time of this writing, is unable to map an internet shared drive. You can, however map a network favorite folder that will work similarly to mapped network drives. Patch Windows In order for this to work, we must install the Microsoft Web Folders patch from: Download the executable and run it on your system. A reboot may be required. Map Network Drive(s) Click on the start menu and Right Click on My Computer and select Map Network drive. The dialogue box below will appear. Click on Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures.

13 A new dialogue box will appear. Click next if need be, or select Choose a custom network location and click next. The following dialogue box will appear. From here, enter and hit next. From this screen, you can give the connection a name. Use default or choose one of your own. Press Next.

14 Click finish. The drive should now appear under My Computer. You can save to this folder like you would any other folder.
