Objectives Set Up Receiver Database setup Create a class roster manually Guidelines for importing class rosters Engaging Verbal Questions (Teacher Led) Create and Engage a Fast Grade Lesson (Student- Paced)
Receiver Setup Plug the CPS receiver into any available USB port on your computer Click on the einstruction Tools icon notification area. in the system Select einstruction Device Manager to ensure that Receiver displays a green check mark. If the Receiver displays a red x or is not visible, click on OPTIONS>discover devices.
Database Setup Open CPS via desktop icon. If this is your first time opening CPS software, a window prompt will display. Select Create a New CPS File & Click OK.
Database Setup Change file name Create CPS Folder Determine where the database will be stored according to your school/district guidelines and create a new folder called CPS. Click on the OPEN button to open the CPS folder and then type your database name in the field called File name. Click Save. Note: CPS automatically opens the last used database each time it opens
Click Prepare> Classes & Students Class Roster Click New Select CLASS. from the Home group. A series of windows will prompt for the required inputs: Institution type & Class Information.
Class Roster NOTE: First time users will also respond to a window referencing a CPS Online account and a window to enter their Teacher Information. K-12 Teachers should always say no at this prompt Only the asterisked fields need to be completed Click DONE when all information has been entered.
Class Roster Single-click on the class name. Click New from the Home group. Select STUDENT. A generic Student 01 will appear on the right hand side of the screen. Press the ENTER key on your keyboard until the class contains the desired number of students. Go back and fill in the student names first name and last name in separate columns. Pad ID refers to the numbered clicker assigned to the student.
Guidelines for Importing A formatted file must be created prior to importing rosters 1. Open the class in the non-cps software. 2. Format the data to include the following two required column headers: FIRSTNAME LASTNAME NOTE: The CPS software doesn't care if these headers are capitalized, or if they appear in a different order. In fact, you can have a column header in between the last and the first columns, but at least one of these columns must exist for CPS to import the class.
Guidelines for Importing 3. Fill in the student s first and last name under the corresponding required header (Firstname and Lastname). 4. Save that class data as a.csv file (Comma Separated Values file type). Most spreadsheet or database programs do this with the Save As command. Optionally, you can include the following optional column headers: PADID (Do not put a blank space between the words Pad and ID. ) NOTE: If you include a PadID column header then students will retain the response pad ID number you assign them. However, if you exclude a PadID column header then CPS will automatically assign students their response pad ID numbers when you import the data. STUDENTID (Do not put a blank space between the words Student and ID. ) ETHNICCODE (Do not put a blank space between the words Ethnic and Code. Allowed values include: African American, American Indian, Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian, Pacific Islander, Alaskan Native, N/A. GENDER: Allowed values include: F, M. GRADE: Allowed values include: Per-K, K, First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth, N/A. ECONDISADVANTAGED (Do not put a blank space between the words Econ and Disadvantaged. )
