1 Computer/Laptop Registration Before you begin: You will need a valid KSU username and password. A computer or laptop with operating system of Windows (XP or higher) or Mac OSX. Confirm that your PC/laptop has the proper hardware. Ethernet card 10/100 (type) or for a Laptop PCMIA 10/100 (type). Ethernet cable ft, Ethernet cable type CAT-RJ45, Male to Male (end connection). or Wireless Card ( a,b,g) If you have the above: 1. Plug the Ethernet cable into the internet jack. 2. Click on the internet browser. 3. You will receive the screen shown below informing you that you have been denied access to the KSU network. To start the registration process, click Start Registration. Please Note: If you have completed steps 1-3 and you do not receive the screen below then: 1. your computer/laptop may be configured incorrectly (see troubleshooting tips on page 6) or 2. your internet jack may need repair please call the Information Technology Help Desk at Game console users must come to Information Technology in order to complete registration of the device. 3 A screen will appear that will inform you that your device is being registered. Note: Do not attempt to do anything on your system while the registration is in process. Once your computer or laptop has been registered successfully, the screen shown below will appear. Once you receive this screen, you may continue to the KSU network by clicking the KSU Network link shown on the screen below. If you do not receive the screen please contact the Information Technology Help Desk at or 3

6 Troubleshooting Basic Troubleshooting 1. Restart your computer/laptop. Many problems are fixed by simply rebooting. 2. Make sure that you have an Ethernet cable and it is plugged in securely at both ends. Check the connection to your computer's network card and the connection to the internet jack in your room. 3. Check for flashing green and yellow lights near the network port on your computer. A green light on, yellow light flashing usually means the connection is working. If this is not the case, either the network card is not configured correctly, the internet data jack that you are plugged into is not working, or your data cable is bad. 4. Plug the Ethernet cable into another internet data jack in the room. It is unlikely that all the data jacks in the room are not functioning, unless there is a network outage. 5. Inspect your Ethernet cable, make sure there are no visible signs of damage. Borrow a different cable from a friend and try to connect using this cable. If you are still having problems please either go to the Troubleshooting Windows or the Troubleshooting Macintosh sections Troubleshooting Windows After CAREFULLY checking all of the steps in the above troubleshooting tips, try the above 1.
