4 Introduction 1 1 Introduction 1.1 Welcome This manual provides information on setting up and using a copier as a scanner. Read these instructions thoroughly before using the functions. For instructions on using the copier itself and for general safety precautions, refer to the manual provided with the copier. Store the user s guide and the enclosed CD-ROM in a safe location for future reference. 2 Note No part of this manual may be copied or reproduced, either in part or in whole, without prior permission. 5 Introduction END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE LICENSE AGREEMENT BELOW BEFORE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE INDICATES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BELOW. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THEM, YOU SHOULD PROMPTLY RETURN THE SOFTWARE UNUSED. 1. SOFTWARE Software means the computer program contained in the package, together with all codes, techniques, software tools, format, design, concepts, methods and ideas associated with the computer program and all documentation related thereto. 2. LICENSE AGREEMENT This is a license agreement for sale. KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS TECH- NOLOGIES, INC. or its affiliate company (hereinafter collectively KONICA MINOLTA ) owns, or has been licensed from other owners ( KONICA MI- NOLTA s Licensor ), copyrights in the Software. Except as in this Agreement, you are not granted any rights to patents, copyrights, trade names, trademarks (whether registered or unregistered), or any other rights, franchises or licenses in respect of the Software. Title to the Software and any copy made from it is retained by KONICA MINOLTA or KONICA MINOLTA s Licensor. 3. LICENSE KONICA MINOLTA, hereby grand to you, and you agree to accept a non-exclusive, non-transferable and limited license and you may: (1) install and use the Software on a single computer. (2) use the Software only for your own customary business or personal purpose. (3) make a copy of the Software for backup or installation purpose only in support of the normal and intended use of the Software. (4) transfer possession of copies of the Software to another party by transferring a copy of this Agreement and all other documentation along with at least one complete unaltered copy of the Software, provided that (i) you, at the same time, either transfer to such other party or destroy all your other copies of the Software, (ii) such transfer of possession terminates your license with KONICA MINOLTA, and (iii) such other party shall accept and be bound by these license terms with their initial use of the Software. RESTRICTIONS (1) You shall not without the written consent of KONICA MINOLTA: (i) use, copy, modify, merge or transfer copies of the Software except as provided herein, (ii) reverse assemble or reverse compile the Software except as permitted by law; or (iii) sublicense, rent, lease or distribute the Software or any copy thereof. (2) You shall not export or re-export the Software in any from under violation of export restrictions by the government of your country. 5. LIMITED WARRANTY KONICA MINOLTA warrants the media on which the software is recorded to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Warranty details and limitations for the Hardware containing the Software are described in the Statement of Limited Warranty which was supplied with the hardware. With the exception of the foregoing express warranties applicable to hardware and media only, the Software is not warranted and is provided AS IS. SUCH WARRANTIES ARE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EX- PRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. 6. LIMITATION OF REMEDIES IN NO EVENT WILL KONICA MINOLTA BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST PROF- ITS, LOST DATA, OR ANY OTHER INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES THAT RESULT FROM USE OR INABLITY TO USE THE SOFT- WARE, EVEN IF KONICA MINOLTA, KONICA MINOLTA LICENSOR OR ITS AUTHORISED REMARKETERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY YOU BASED ON A THIRD PARTY CLAIM. 7. TERMINATION You may terminate your license at any time by destroying the Software and all your copies of it or as otherwise described in these terms. KONICA MI- NOLTA may terminate your license if you fail to comply with these terms. Upon such termination, you agree to destroy all your copies of the Software. 8. Use, duplication or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at FAR , subdivision (b)(3)(ii) or sub paragraph (c)(1)(ii), as appropriate. Further use, duplication or disclosure is subject to restrictions to restricted rights software as set forth in FAR (c)(2). 12 Setting up PC scanning 2 2 Setting up PC scanning If the enclosed TWAIN driver is installed on the computer, this copier can be used for to scan documents to a PC. The following software and hardware system environment is required for PC scanning: - OS: Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Sever TWAIN-compatible image-processing software (such as, Adobe Photoshop) - USB V.1.1 (or later version) TWAIN Driver 2-1

14 Connecting to the copier 3 3 Connecting to the copier Connecting to the USB port of the copier 7 CAUTION Use of an unshielded cable may result in radio interference. % Be sure to use a shielded USB cable. 1 Make sure that the copier and the computer to be connected to the copier are turned OFF. 2 Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB port of the copier. 16 Installing the TWAIN driver 4 4 Installing the TWAIN driver This section describes the procedure for installing the TWAIN driver. The TWAIN driver can be installed by using plug and play. 2 Note After the TWAIN driver is installed, the installation of the printer driver begins. 4.1 Installation under Windows XP/Server 2003 Installing the TWAIN driver under Windows XP/Server With Windows running, insert the CD-ROM into your computer s CD- ROM drive. 2 Turn on the copier. 3 When the copier is ready, connect it to the computer with the USB cable. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. When using Windows XP (SP2), select do not connect. in the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, and then click [Next]. 4 Select Install from a list or specific location Advanced, and then click [Next]. 5 Select Include this location in the search: under Search for the best driver in these locations., and then click [Browse]. 6 Browse to Driver\(language)\2k_XP on the CD-ROM, and then click [OK]. Select the language you prefer. For example, if you prefer English, browse to: Driver\English\2k_XP 7 Click [Next]. The Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. TWAIN Driver 4-1

The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again. 9 Repeat steps 4 through 8 to install the printer driver. 2 Note To reinstall the TWAIN driver, connect the machine to the computer with the USB cable, and then perform the installation again as described below. Reinstalling the TWAIN driver (for Windows XP/Server 2003) 1 In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click [Device Manager]. 2 Display the properties for the desired TWAIN device under Imaging devices in the Device Manager dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click [Update Driver]. 3 Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click [Next]. 4 Select Don t search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click [Next]. 5 Click [Have Disk]. 6 Specify the path to the folder containing the driver to be reinstalled. If a warning message appears, click [Next] to complete the installation and restart the computer. TWAIN Driver 4-2

18 Installing the TWAIN driver Installation under Windows 2000 Installing the TWAIN driver under Windows With Windows running, insert the CD-ROM into your computer s CD- ROM drive. 2 Turn on the copier. 3 When the copier is ready, connect it to the computer with the USB cable. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. 4 Click [Next]. 5 Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) in the Install Hardware Device Drivers dialog box, and then click [Next]. The Locate Driver Files dialog box appears. 6 Select Specify a location, and click [Next]. 7 Click [Browse...] on the next dialog box, browse to Driver\(language)\2k_XP on the CD-ROM, and then click [Open]. Select the language you prefer. For example, if you prefer English, browse to: Driver\English\2k_XP 8 Click [OK], and follow the instructions that appear on the screen until the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. 9 Click [Finish]. This completes the installation of the TWAIN driver. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again. 10 Repeat steps 4 through 9 to install the printer driver. TWAIN Driver 4-3

Reinstalling the TWAIN driver (for Windows 2000) 1 In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click [Device Manager]. 2 Display the properties for the desired TWAIN device under Imaging devices in the Device Manager dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click [Update Driver]. 3 Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver, and then click [Next]. 4 Click [Have Disk]. 5 Specify the path to the folder containing the driver to be reinstalled. If a warning message appears, click [Next] to complete the installation and restart the computer. TWAIN Driver 4-4

20 Installing the TWAIN driver Installation under Windows Me/98 SE 2 Note When using Windows 98 SE, the USB-compatible device driver must be installed before the TWAIN driver is installed. Click [Next] after selecting the following in the dialog box that appears. Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended), Specify a location (Browse to Driver\(language)\Win9x on the CD-ROM, and then click [OK].), The updated driver (Recommended) Click [Finish] to begin installing the TWAIN driver. Installing the TWAIN driver under Windows Me/98 SE 1 With Windows running, insert the CD-ROM into your computer s CD- ROM drive. 2 Turn on the copier. 3 When the copier is ready, connect it to the computer with the USB cable. The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears and installation of the TWAIN driver begins. 4 With Windows Me, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced). With Windows 98 SE, click [Next], and then select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended) in the dialog box that appears. 5 Click [Next]. 6 Select Specify a location, and then click [Browse ]. 7 Browse to Driver\(language)\Win9x on the CD-ROM, and then click [OK]. Select the language you prefer. For example, if you prefer English, browse to: Driver\English\Win9x 8 Click [Next], and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen until you can click [Finish]. TWAIN Driver 4-5

This procedure uses Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional as an example. 2 Click [File]. 3 Point to [Create PDF], and then click [From Scanner]. 4 Select the device from the dialog box, specify the desired settings, and then click [Scan]. 5 Adjust any settings necessary. 23 How to scan document Using the original glass How to scan documents using the original glass 1 Select the PC software program (Imaging, Adobe Photoshop, etc.). This procedure uses Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional as an example. 2 Click [File]. 3 Click [Create PDF], and then click [From Scanner]. 4 Choose the device from the dialog box, then click [Scan]. 5 Adjust any settings necessary. 25 Common settings 6 Paper size Select the paper size from the pull-down list to match the size of document to be scanned. 2 Note If the scanned image is larger than the size selected in the Original Size pull-down list, any part of the scanned image larger than the specified size is erased. If the scanned image is smaller than the size selected in the Original Size pull-down list, the image is scanned at the specified size. Scan type The scan type pull-down list contain four options. - B/W: Suitable for most text documents. - Photo: Suitable for photographs. Resolution The resolution pull-down list contain three options that can be used for different purposes dpi 150dpi: Normal resolution for text documents containing standard sized text dpi 300dpi: Higher resolution for text documents containing small characters or fine print, such as a newspaper article. This is default setting dpi 600dpi: Highest resolution for scanning photographs and other images. Duplex scanning Select OFF or ON from the pull-down list. 2 Note Duplex scanning is not displayed and cannot be selected when the reverse automatic document feeder is not connected to the machine. (Reverse automatic document feeder DF-605 cannot be installed on bizhub162.) TWAIN Driver 6-2

26 Common settings 6 Brightness This function is used to adjust the brightness of colors. The default settings is 0. Brightness can be set from -4 to 4. TWAIN Driver 6-3

28 Error message 7 7 Error message 7.1 Original document jam Message on the control panel: Message on the PC screen: Cause A paper jam occurred in the automatic document feeder or reverse automatic document feeder. All misfed paper was not removed from the automatic document feeder or reverse automatic document feeder. Remedy Open the document feeder cover and the automatic document feeder or reverse automatic document feeder, and then remove the misfed paper. The recovery procedure is the same as that for To clear a misfeed in the auto document feeder on page 7-2. After the paper jam has been cleared, the memory percentage will return to its original value. TWAIN Driver 7-1

29 Error message 7 To clear a misfeed in the auto document feeder 1 Remove the original document from the document feed tray. 2 Open the document feeder cover and gently remove the misfed paper. 3 Open the auto document feeder and gently remove the misfed paper. 4 Close the document feeder cover, then load the document removed in step 1 into the automatic document feeder again. 30 Error message Communication error Message on the PC screen: Cause The copier is not ready. PC or copier system crash during communication. USB cable does not connect properly during communication. Remedy Turn the copier OFF, then check if the USB cable is connected properly or not. After checking the USB cable carefully, turn the copier ON again. If you still cannot fix the problem, call your service representative. TWAIN Driver 7-3

31 Error message Scanner busy Message on the PC screen: Cause If TWAIN scanning and copy jobs are being performed at the same the time, the copier may stop in the middle of scanning. Remedy Wait until copy or all scanning is over. TWAIN Driver 7-4

32 Error message Read data error Message on the PC screen: Cause An error occurred while reading data from the copier while scanning. Remedy Turn the copier OFF, then check if the USB cable is connected properly or not. After checking the USB cable carefully, turn the copier ON again. If you still cannot fix the problem, call your service representative. TWAIN Driver 7-5

33 Error message Automatic document feeder no paper Message on the PC screen: Cause There is no paper in the automatic document feeder (reverse automatic document feeder) when duplex scanning is selected. Remedy Add paper to the automatic document feeder (reverse automatic document feeder). 2 Note In order to scan double-sided documents, the reverse automatic document feeder DF-605 must be connected to the machine. (Reverse automatic document feeder DF-605 cannot be installed on bizhub162.) TWAIN Driver 7-6

34 Error message Other machine error Message on the PC screen: Cause The automatic document feeder (reverse automatic document feeder) cover or document feeder cover was opened while a document was being scanned. An transmission error occurred between the TWAIN driver and the copier. Remedy The recovery procedure, please refer to user s guide. After the paper jam has been cleared, the memory percentage will return to its original value. Check the copier and the USB cable. 2 Note In order to scan double-sided documents, the reverse automatic document feeder DF-605 must be connected to the machine.
