2 Abstract The AMB8466-M-GMS is a wireless M-BUS/OMS to wired M-BUS Gateway supporting up to 50 registered wireless meters. The Software described in this manual will allow the configuration of the GMS. This configuration may either be performed wireless by an AMB8465-M USB-Stick or wired by a Serial-To-M-BUS converter. Requirements In order to allow a wireless configuration (recommended) you need an AMB8465-M USB-Sticks and a free USB 2.0 Host Port at your PC or Laptop. In order to allow a configuration via Serial-To-M-BUS converter you need a free serial port at your PC or laptop. This port may be provided by an USB-to-Serial converter though the best solution would be a hardware RS232 interface of your PC. The software is written and tested for the following 32-Bit Microsoft Windows operating systems ( x86 ): Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Any 64 Bit Operating System is not tested and therefore there is no warranty that the Konfigurator will work in this environments. You will need Microsoft.NET Framework version 3.5 or newer installed on your PC. And your display should support a resolution of at least 1024x600 pixels. The drivers of the AMB8465-M have to be installed on your PC. Please download and install the most recent drivers from or via Windows Update. Please make sure you use an up-to-date FTDI driver. 3 1 Quick start Connect the communication device to your computer. This may either be an AMB8465-M or a Serial-To-M-BUS converter. Make sure that the hardware provides a serial port by checking the Windows device manager. The USB enumeration may take up to 30 seconds or may even fail. In case of failure try unplugging and replugging the AMB8465-M USB Stick. The duration of the enumeration depends on your operating system, PC performance and activity of any connected USB device. Right after this you may start copying the software into a folder of your choice. There are 2 files which must be copied into the same folder, namely AMB8466-M-GMS_Konfig.exe and ManufacturerList.txt. Please start the AMB8466-M-GMS_Konfig.exe from your hard disk. You will now see the Konfigurator start screen pop up as shown in Picture 1. Picture 1 Start screen The next steps are depending on which of the two possible connections you want to choose. For a wireless setup using an AMB8465-M USB stick please proceed with chapter 1.1. The wired setup using a Serial-To-M-BUS converter is described in chapter 1.2. 4 1.1 Starting a wireless Configuration (recommended) Please choose the COM-Port related to the AMB8465-M. Please press the Open -button. If the USB Stick needs a reconfiguration it will be reconfigured automatically now. After this step the button Read All will be enabled. As soon as it s enabled you may press the button Read All. A popup window will show up. Press the OK -button of this popup window and set the AMB8466-M-GMS into the configuration mode as described in chapter The configuration mode must be started within a window of 30 seconds after the popup was closed. The progress bar will run until the readout is finished or an error occurred. The Software will automatically detect the GMS configurability notification and read its configuration. As the result of this read procedure there may be some lines in the RSL and/or in the RML. Additionally the tab GMS Settings will be filled with the information of the currently connected GMS. Picture 2 COM-Port configuration (wired) If you need to use the AMB8465-M for other software please make sure these software use the Com-Port configuration of Baud 8n1 (default of the AMB8465-M Stick is 9600 Baud 8n1). In a case you cannot configure the COM-port you must perform a factory reset (see AMB8465-M User guide). You may Abort any connect, read or write process in wireless connection mode. Then the connection is reset and another Read All must be performed again. Your may change the settings of the GMS by using the fist tab page GMS Settings. Press the Save -button if you want to cache your changes so they can be written using the button Write All at the end of the configuration. You may put a Meter from the RSL list box into the RML list box by performing a drag and drop or using the >> -button. This creates a new RML Meter with the meter address of the selected RSL meter at the smallest free storage ID. A maximum of 50 meters can be registered. Another method to create a RML Meter is to use the right click menu option new. This will create a 0-based meter. This 0-based meter has to be changed before it can be registered to the GMS. A Meter ID of is detected as unused as well as a Manufacturer The wireless configuration will always be encrypted using wireless M-BUS encryption Mode 5. User guide AMB8466-M-GMS Konfigurator Page 4 of

5 By selecting a registered meter out of the list box you may change its configuration in the tab Registered Meter Setting. Again you must press Save to cache the changes you made to any RML Meter in order to do a Write All later. The aes key is initialized with all bytes 0 so you need to change it if you want to receive encrypted telegrams. The PID of a registered meter is also initialized to 0. If the aes key is read out as all bytes 0, the textbox AES Key [hex] will be empty. If any other aes key is read this textbox will contain 32 * characters. After you finished the configuration you have to press the Write All -button to write the entire settings into the GMS. The progress bar will run until the write procedure is finished or an error occurred. If you are done you should press the Close -button before you close the Konfigurator or you must perform a manually reset of the GMS so it will return to normal operating mode. The Write All command will reset the GMS if the command was executed successfully Setting the GMS into the Configuration State This step will be performed using the push-button (the hole in front of the arrow) right behind the front panel of the AMB8466-M-GMS. Unplug the power supply of the GMS. Push and hold the push-button. Then replug the power supply of the GMS. Hold the push-button till the Led s Power and Error are blinking synchronously. Then release the push-button to start the configuration state. Picture 3 Front panel The configuration state can be cancelled by a power cycle or by pressing the push-button once for a time of at least 0.5 seconds and then releasing it. 6 1.2 Starting a wired Configuration Please choose the COM-Port related to the Serial-To-M-BUS converter. Select the radio button Serial To MBUS. Please insert the MBUS PID [hex] of the GMS and the M-BUS Baudrate of the GMS into the fields. The default values are 00 for the PID and 2400 Baud for the M-BUS speed. After this step you may press the Open -button and then press the Read All -button. The progress bar will run until the readout is finished or an error occurred. The wired Read All process may take a very long time (up to one minute) depending on the used M-BUS-baud rate. The software will notify you on errors or post a Read All Completed successfully. in the tool strip bar at the bottom of the program window. Any valid meter will now be shown inside the list box it belongs to (RML or RSL). Your may change the settings of the GMS by using the tab page GMS Settings. Please press the Write -button if you want to write your changes into the GMS. You may put a meter from the RSL into the RML List by performing a drag and drop or using the >> -button. This registers a new RML Meter with the meter address of the selected RSL Meter in the GMS. Another method to create a RML Meter is to use the right click menu option New. This will create an empty (all 0 meter) which must be modified before it can be registered with the GMS. A MeterID of is detected as unused as well as a Manufacturer Token A maximum of 50 meters can be registered to the GMS. Any new meter will be initialized with aes key and PID 00. So you need to change the aes key to the one of the meter if it s using encryption data transmission. Picture 4 COM-Port configuration (wireless) For safety reasons the aes key cannot be read out the GMS in wired configuration mode. It can only be overwritten. The aes key ******************************** is detected as no change on the aes key intended. The aes key is detected as initial value and is therefore noted as aes key empty. By selecting a registered meter out of the list box you may change its configuration in the tab Registered Meter Setting. Again you must press the Write -button to directly write the changes you made into the GMS. User guide AMB8466-M-GMS Konfigurator Page 6 of

7 2 Konfigurator details The following paragraphs will give a detailed view on some areas of the graphical user interface of the Konfigurator. 2.1 RSL List The RSL list will show any received meter since the last reset of this list. Parameters are (in the shown order) MeterID, Manufacturer Token, version (hex), device type (hex) and the last known RSSI value in db. A RSSI of -128 indicates that this meter has not been received since the last reset of the GMS. The RSL may contain up to 256 meters and RSSI values. This list can be cleared using the right click menu Clear All. This action will be performed instantly in the wired configuration. In the wireless configuration you must also click the Write All -button to clear the RSL. Picture 5 RSL and RML list 2.2 RML List The RML list shows the registered meters ordered by their storage ID. The RSL may contain up to 50 Meters. The order of a RML Line in the list box is StorageID, MeterID, Manufacturer Token, version (hex) and device type (hex). Please take care that no double Meters are registered with the GMS to avoid unexpected behaviour. A wildcard Meter may also cause unexpected behaviour if this wildcard matches to more than one meter in range of the GMS. Overlapping meter addresses may result in critical errors during configuration. The detail settings of a selected registered meter are shown on the Registered Meter Setting tab. You may modify these setting as you need. Wildcards are supported. So the meter address may be FFFFFFFF and the version may be FF. For selecting a manufacturer wildcard or device type wildcard please choose Wildcard from the end of the corresponding dropdown box manufacturer or dropdown list device type. User guide AMB8466-M-GMS Konfigurator Page 7 of

8 Picture 6 GMS Settings and Registered Meter Setting (wired) The requested aes keys will never be shown in plain text. If you want to set a new aes key you may overwrite the key textbox containing the * characters. The aes key must consist of 32 hexadecimal characters (corresponding to 16 bytes). A whitespace in between the bytes is not allowed. The wireless configuration will show a Save instead of a Write button and therefore you must use the Save -button and then the Write All -button in the wireless configuration to store the settings in the GMS. You may delete the currently selected meter by clicking the Remove -button. As known from Write/Save these action will be performed directly in wired mode and in wireless mode the Write All must be performed as an additional step to write the settings into the GMS. 2.3 GMS Settings Some parameters of the GMS can be configured by the user these are secondary meter ID, wireless M-BUS Mode, GMS PID and GMS M-BUS speed. All other GMS parameters are locked and cannot be modified. The wireless GMS-Settings will show a Save -button instead of a Write -button and in wireless configuration any change needs Save and Write All to be written into the GMS. If you change the GMS PID please note that you must choose the correct M-BUS PID in the wired connection on the next start of the Konfigurator. Same must be considered for a change of the M-BUS-baud rate. Additionally you should check what baud rates are supported by your Serial-To-M-BUS converter before changing the baud rate. 9 3 Firmware update Do not unplug the GMS during a firmware update. This may seriously damage your device. The firmware update can only be performed using the AMB8465-M USB Stick. First follow the steps of chapter 1.1 until the Firmware update -button is enabled. Then you select the *.hex or *.hex.aef firmware file in the next step. Please make sure you choose the correct firmware for your device. Any wrong firmware may destroy the GMS. If a correct firmware was selected and the device is still connected the Firmwareupdate will start automatically. If no auto start is possible you will see a new message box. Press OK in the new dialog and start the configuration state at the GMS like described in chapter within a window of 30 seconds. The firmware update will now start. The duration of the update varies with the RF-activity in the range of the GMS (868.95MHz, T- Mode) and may take up to some minutes. After successful firmware update the device needs to be reconfigured using wireless or wired configuration. So you may press the Write All -button to write the old configuration which is still stored in the Konfigurator back into the firmware-updated GMS. As the Firmwareupdate will always perform a Reset of the GMS if the update was successful you will have to activate the configuration state of the GMS once again. If there is too much other traffic or the GMS is too near to the AMB8465-M USB Stick (distance should be bigger than 2 meters) the firmware update may stop and show an error. In this case try repositioning the GMS and the AMB8465-M and retry the firmware update procedure. Also consider moving the GMS out of the range of any meter using wireless M-BUS T-Mode to minimize interference. User guide AMB8466-M-GMS Konfigurator Page 9 of
