Introduction The Document Manager Desktop Enabler lets you access Document Manager libraries using Windows(R) Explorer, provides support for integrated applications such as Microsoft(R) Office and Lotus SmartSuite(R), and lets you manage local Document Manager settings from your computer via the Desktop Administrator. The Desktop Enabler also supports the Document Manager API. For more information, see the Document Manager Programmer's Guide (ddmddpg.nsf) in the Document Manager directory on your server. Please see Section 6, "Getting Started" below for instructions on how to connect to a Document Manager library. 3. What's New? Usability enhancements Expanded Notes(R) integration -- Desktop Enabler users can move Lotus Notes(R) content, file attachments, and header information directly to a Document Manager library, and choose which components to save. Now, administrators can enable the same Notes integration for users who do not have access to the Desktop Enabler (for example, users who run Lotus Notes on a Macintosh). Extended access to Doc Manager Neighborhood -- The Doc Manager Neighborhood can be made to display in the Open dialog box and the Save As dialog box of additional selected applications, allowing users to view the library hierarchy, and open and save documents of the appropriate type. Application access to the Doc Manager Neighborhood must be enabled by the Document Manager administrator. Extended application support for Microsoft Office This HotFix adds Microsoft Office 2007 as a supported application for Document

2 Manager. It enables Microsoft Office 2007 file open/save in Document Manager. Serviceability enhancements Enhanced installation logging -- When users install the Desktop Enabler, Document Manager records each step of the installation process in a log file. If installation does not complete successfully, the log file can help diagnose the underlying problem. Note: For information on additional enhancements in this release that do not pertain to the Desktop Enabler, see "What's new" in the Document Manager User's Guide. 4. System Requirements To use the Document Manager Desktop Enabler (included with Document Manager), you need: * Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional or XP Professional. * Pentium(R) 333 MHz or higher, with 256MB RAM or higher. * 10MB hard disk space to install the Desktop Enabler, plus 50MB space for downloading temporary files from the Document Manager server; the Setup program removes the temporary files after it installs the Desktop Enabler. * 256-color monitor with minimum 800 x 600 resolution. 5. Installing When you install the Document Manager Desktop Enabler, the Setup program (ddsetup.exe) checks to see if you have an earlier version of the Enabler and then removes the relevant files before installing the new client software files. Setup copies files to the directory you specify, the Notes directory (if Notes is installed), and the Windows\System directory, then updates the Windows registry. You can install the Desktop Enabler from the Document Manager library by using either a Notes client or a Web browser. The installation process varies depending on the interface you use. Note: The Desktop Enabler can only be installed on workstations running a supported version of Windows. Setting up the Desktop Enabler from Notes When you install the Desktop Enabler from a Notes client, you can choose whether to install and set up the Enabler, or download the files without completing setup. If you choose the latter option, you will need to run ddsetup.exe when you want to set up the Enabler. 1. Open the Document Manager library. For example, choose File - Database - Open, specify the name of the Domino server, and select the Document Manager library.

3 2. Click Library Administration and then click Download Client Software. 3. Do one of the following: * To complete installation and setup, click Install Client. This option downloads files to a temporary location and then automatically runs ddsetup.exe to set up the Desktop Enabler. * To download the Desktop Enabler files without completing setup, click Download Client. This option downloads the files to a location that you specify. To complete setup, go to that location and then run ddsetup.exe. 4. When the InstallShield Welcome screen displays, click Next to begin installing the Desktop Enabler files. 5. Select the type of install you want, accept or change the default drive and directory for the Desktop Enabler, and then click Next. Both Setup options (Typical and Custom) install the Document Manager Application Programming Interface (API) used by the Desktop Enabler. If you plan to develop applications using the API and do not want to install the Doc Manager Neighborhood interface, select Custom, click Next, and then select API Install. 6. Follow the remaining on-screen prompts. Setting up the Desktop Enabler from a Browser Obtain the library URL from your Document Manager administrator, then open the Document Manager library. 2. Click Getting Started, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Download Document Manager Desktop Enabler. The Download software page displays. The attached files that you see depend on whether your administrator has enabled access to the Doc Manager Neighborhood from additional desktop applications. 3. Do one of the following: * If the page contains the Enabler (ddsetup.exe) and Readme (readclnt.txt) files, click ddsetup.exe and then choose whether to open the setup program directly from the page or download the file to a directory on your workstation. If you choose the latter option, go to the directory where you saved the file and then run ddsetup.exe. * If the page contains the Enabler (ddsetup.exe), Readme (readclnt.txt), and Registry (ddmallowedapps.reg) files, download the files to a single directory on your workstation, then go to the directory where you saved the files, run ddmallowedapps.reg, and then run ddsetup.exe. 4. When the InstallShield Welcome screen displays, click Next to begin installing the Desktop Enabler files. 5. Select the type of install you want, accept or change the default drive and directory for the Desktop Enabler, and then click Next.

4 Both Setup options (Typical and Custom) install the Document Manager Application Programming Interface (API) used by the Desktop Enabler. If you plan to develop applications using the API and do not want to install the Doc Manager Neighborhood interface, select Custom, and then select API Install. 6. Follow the remaining on-screen prompts. Troubleshooting Installation Problems During installation, ddsetup.exe creates a text file (ddsetup.log) that records each step of the installation process and can be used to help troubleshoot problems. After installation, ddsetup.log is stored in the directory where you installed the Desktop Enabler (typically c:\lotus\dominodoc). If installation does not complete successfully, ddsetup.log is stored in the root directory of the hard drive (typically c:\). Note: If access to the root directory is restricted on the workstation where the Desktop Enabler is installed, the ddsetup.log file is not created. (SPR #RPHX6CNPYN) Accessing Document Manager After you install the Desktop Enabler and restart your PC, you can use these two tools to access your Document Manager libraries: * Doc Manager Neighborhood shortcut on your Windows desktop * Doc Manager Neighborhood icon in the left pane of Windows Explorer 6. Getting Started This section describes how to access the Document Manager Desktop Administrator, and explains how to connect to a Document Manager library from an integrated application and from the Windows Explorer. Using the Desktop Administrator The Document Manager Desktop Administrator lets you manage local settings on your computer including selecting the integrated applications you want to use with Document Manager, and specifying proxy server connection settings. To open the Desktop Administrator, click the Windows Start menu, then choose Programs - Lotus Applications - Doc Manager Desktop Administrator. Note: You must log in to the workstation using an Administrator ID to change some of the integrated applications preferences and the HTTP server address and port. Connecting to a Document Manager Library When you open or save documents, you need to specify the name of the server and the Document Manager library where you store your documents.

5 Contact your Document Manager administrator for the name of your Domino server, the file path of your Document Manager library, and a preferred protocol. You can access a Document Manager library using either HTTP protocol (the protocol used by Web browsers) or Notes protocol. For HTTP, use this format: For Notes, use this format: notes://mynotesserver/smyddocdir/librarynamelib.nsf Connecting to a Library from an Integrated Application Choose File - Open. If you are using a Microsoft Office application, click the Doc Manager icon in the dialog box's location bar. If there are no current library connections, the Library Connect dialog box displays. If you are using a different ODMA-supported application and there are no current library connections, the Library Connect dialog box displays. 2. In the Library Connect dialog box, do the following: * Enter the Library Address (see HTTP and Notes protocol formats above). * Enter the Display Name (the name you want to assign to the icon that will take you to the library). * Click OK. After you connect to a library, the Open dialog box displays the library icon with the name you specified. 3. To open a library, double-click its icon. 4. If prompted, enter your user name and password, then click OK. For more detailed instructions, see the following topics in Document Manager Integrated Application Help: * "Managing library connections from an Office application" * "Managing library connections from an ODMA-supported application" Connecting to a Library from Windows Explorer Right-click on the Doc Manager Neighborhood icon in the Windows Explorer, and then choose Connect Library from the context menu. Tip: You can also double-click the Doc Manager Neighborhood shortcut on the Windows desktop, then double-click the Add Library Connection icon. 2. In the Library Connect dialog box, do the following:

6 * Enter the Library Address (see HTTP and Notes protocol formats above). * Enter the Display Name (the name you want to assign to the icon that will take you to the library). * Click OK. After you connect to a library, you see a library icon with the display name you specified. 3. To view the library contents, expand the library inside Windows Explorer (or open the library if you are in the Doc Manager Neighborhood window). 4. If prompted, enter your user name and password, then click OK. For more detailed instructions, see "Setting up for using the Windows Explorer interface" in Doc Manager Neighborhood Help. 7. Known Problems and Limitations > Desktop Enabler installation log file is not created. If access to the root directory is restricted on the workstation where the Desktop Enabler is installed, the ddsetup.log file is not created. (SPR #RPHX6CNPYN) > Error "No Working or Review Copy" in Library Log. If the user opens a document for editing in an integrated application without explicitly checking out the document first, then updates, saves, and checks the document back into the library, Document Manager may report the error "No working or review copy was found." The error is recorded in the library log database and in the Desktop Enabler log file; however, it is not displayed to the user and does not have any negative effect on document check-in. To avoid generating this error in the library log database and Desktop Enabler log file, users should check out the document and then open it. (SPR #HMON69WRAY) > Unnecessary links appear in the Life Cycle view. In Domino.Doc(R) 3.5 and Document Manager 6.5.1, when documents were submitted for review or approval, unnecessary document links displayed in the Life Cycle view. If you upgrade to Document Manager 7.0 from either prior release, these links remain visible and cannot be removed. (SPR #HMON57ZLHN) > Excel(R) options are missing in the Save As dialog box. When Excel is enabled for use with Document Manager through the Desktop Administrator, you cannot select options in the Document Manager version of the Save As dialog box to protect the file with a password or always create backup copies. To address this limitation, Document Manager adds a Save As (Native) command to the Excel File menu. Save As (Native) lets you access functionality that is not available in the Document Manager version of the dialog box, but cannot be used to save a file to a Document Manager library. (SPR #HMON5G3STH, #HMON5K4KGM) > Error occurs when performing any document action in a binder if the binder contents were previously refreshed. In the Windows Explorer (dual pane mode only), if you refresh the

7 contents of a binder and then try to perform a document action, an error message displays. This occurs only if you use Notes protocol for the library connection and have IE 6.x installed. There is no known workaround for this issue, other than either installing an earlier version of IE 6, or closing the Window and reopening it without performing a refresh. To avoid this problem, use HTTP protocol.(spr #LSWN5C5M8M) > Error occurs when accessing library in Doc Manager Neighborhood. In an integrated application, when you click My Computer in the Open dialog box, and then navigate to the Doc Manager Neighborhood and try to access a connected library, an error message indicates that you cannot access Document Manager binders and documents from within the application. To avoid errors when accessing a library, click the Document Manager icon in the dialog box. (SPR #DWHD5BBP35, #DWHD5BBP9L) > Error occurs when closing Excel review document. When using Excel 2000/XP with Notes protocol, an error message displays when you close an Excel review document. To avoid this problem, use HTTP protocol with Excel. (SPR #SYMN5ARBBD) > Save As creates document instead of saving existing document. After updating a checked out Word, PowerPoint(R), or Excel document, if you choose File - Save As, select the current document, and then click Save, Document Manager creates a new document instead of letting you save the changes to the existing document. To avoid creating a new document, use File - Save to save changes to a checked out document. To save the updated document as a new document, choose File - Save As and specify a new file name. (SPR #DWHD58GS9D) > Context menu commands may not work correctly. The View, Edit, and Print commands on a document's context menu may not work correctly within the Office/ODMA common dialogs. You can perform these actions successfully from Windows Explorer or after opening the document in the appropriate application. (SPR #HCLE5BHKED, #HCLE5BHR5T, #HCLE5BHRD2, #NMIL5BHS4F) > Bookmark context menu does not include Delete command. If you create a bookmark for a document that cannot be deleted (for example, a locked draft or a document that is marked for archive), the bookmark's context menu does not include a Delete command that allows you to remove the bookmark. To delete the bookmark, select it and then press Delete. (SPR #LSWN4YSQ3R) There are some ODMA applications that do not invoke the ODMA Close consistently. If this happens, you will need to use the Notes client or the browser and manually check the document in. For specific details, see Document Manager Help. Notes protocol is not supported in the Document Manager Desktop Enabler on clients that have multiple versions of Notes installed. If the Document Manager Desktop Enabler is installed in a directory with any spaces in its path, files with the.gth extension may occasionally be left in the root directory. You should delete these files. ODMA-enabled applications and the Explorer client do not show binders in the Checked Out view or the Favorites view.

Supported Applications Working with Integrated Applications Document Manager integrates with Microsoft Office and other ODMAsupported applications through each application's File menu, intercepting requests to open, save, or close files. Document Manager 7.0 supports the integrated applications listed below. For information on minor compatibility issues, see Document Manager Help. * Lotus 1-2-3(R) 9.8, or later * Lotus Freelance Graphics(R) 9.6, or later * Lotus Word Pro(R) 9.6, or later * Microsoft Excel 2007, 2003, 2000, XP, and 97 * Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, 2003, 2000, XP, and 97 * Microsoft Visio(R) 2002 and 2000 * Microsoft Word 2007, 2003, 2000, XP, and 97 Working with Other Applications You can also use applications that are not ODMA-compliant with Document Manager. However, you need to use a Notes client, Web browser, or the Windows Explorer to store or retrieve Document Manager documents. 9. To open Document Manager Integrated Application Help: 1. Open the Document Manager Desktop Administrator. 2. From the Help menu, choose Help Topics. Doc Manager Neighborhood Help Doc Manager Neighborhood Help explains how to work with Document Manager via the Explorer client. To open Doc Manager Neighborhood Help: 1. Click on Doc Manager Neighborhood in the Explorer. 2. From the Help menu, choose Doc Manager Neighborhood Topics.
