1 GROUP SST MODEL All Models NUMBER DATE 052 March 2017 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN Kia Motors America is pleased to provide a software update for the Midtronics GR Diagnostic Battery Charger/Tester. This update is available to all Kia dealerships at no cost. Additionally, this update must be installed as soon as possible to take full advantage of the software improvements. The GR Software Update provides the following improvements: PDI Mode moved to its own menu option Updated Good Recharge decision to Diagnostic Charge Required Updated Charge and Retest decision to Diagnostic Charge Required During ECU Reflash, added option to bypass Diagnostic Charge During Manual Charge, added option to bypass Diagnostic Charge Updated to software Version F Added Port Test Mode for use by Kia Ports What is needed for the GR update? GR Diagnostic Battery Charger/Tester GR supplied USB Cable PC with internet connectivity Replacement GR USB Cable is available from Snap-on Business Solutions at File Under: <Special Service Tool> Circulate To: General Manager Service Manager Parts Manager Service Advisors Technicians Body Shop Manager Fleet Repair

2 Page 2 Enter Dealer Code Procedure: 1. On the GR8, scroll through the MAIN MENU to SETUP. 2. Click NEXT. 3. Scroll through the SETUP menu to Dealer Code. 4. Click NEXT. 5. Enter your dealer code. 6. Click NEXT. Download Software to PC: 1. Go to 2. Click Transportation Division.

3 Page 3 3. Click LOGIN (A) and enter the following information: Username: KiaUS Password: GR8update A Both Username and Password are case sensitive. Click Login (B) after entering the information. B 4. Click Update Software. 5. Enter the technician s name and other required data.

4 Page 4 6. Enter the GR8 Serial Number located on the back side of control unit. 7. Click Submit Request. 8. Click Software Download. 9. Click Save As and select Desktop. May look different depending on the browser type.

5 Page 5 Opening Wizard and Extracting Files 1. Double click the Setup.exe icon on the PC s desktop. Background of the Setup.exe icon may be a different color. 2. Click Yes. 3. Wait while the Wizard Setup extracts the files. 4. Click Next.

6 Page 6 5. If displayed, click Install this driver software anyway. 6. Click Finish. 7. Click Yes to reboot the computer. Updating GR Double click the Setup.exe icon on the PC s desktop.

7 Page 7 2. Click the GR8 image. If needed, click Yes to allow the program to make changes to the computer. 3. Connect the GR8 power cord to a 115v outlet (Do NOT use an extension cord), and then turn on the GR8. 4. Click NEXT. 5. Using the USB Cable supplied with the GR8, connect the GR8 to the PC, and then click NEXT. For Replacement USB Cable, contact Snap-on Business Solutions at USB Cable P/N: MTRA128.

8 Page 8 6. Wait while the Wizard connects to the GR8. 7. Confirm that the Location ID is your Dealer Code and the click Yes. 8. Wait while the program connects with the server and starts the update. The process progress is displayed.
