1 Or how to use Biss modules. BISS MODULE NOTICE In opposite to all other CA system, for which the module has only to be inserted into the IRD, the BISS module need to be configured BEFORE being able to descramble anything. This is not at all a bug or a problem linked to the Aston module, but this configuration is directly linked to the BISS specification In order to use our Biss module, you need the followings. 1) first of all, you need to know the service id of each the service you want to descramble... 2) for each of theses services, you need to know also: - which biss mode is used (1 or E) - in case of biss E, you need to know the ESW and the Injected ID for each of the service. The injected ID shall be unique ( the same for all services), but each service can have is own ESW. If some services share the same ESW, there is an option for have a ESW used by many services. This ESW, used by different service, is named "main ESW". - in case of biss E also, you need to know if the service if the ESW of the service is corresponding to the Injected Id or theburried id. - in case of biss 1, you need to know the SW for each service. Each service can have is own SW. but, if more than one service share the same SW, you can use the main SW. Now, let s configure a module, using a sample Imagine that you have a stream, in which you have the following 4 services 1) service 1, with service id 0x145 in Biss 1 mode, with SW equal to 0x451857b412c1 2) service 2, which service id 0xab4 in Biss E mode, using injected ID, with ESW equal to 0x215af5214cde5e74 3) service 3, with service id 0x18, in Biss E mode, using injected ID, with ESW equal to 0x215af5214cde5e74 4) service 4, with service id 0x25, in Biss E mode, using buried ID, with ESW equal to 0x457efaefc12d45ea and, that the Injectd Id, to be used for service 2 and 3 is0x45253acd56984a

2 what you have to do is do the following steps A) select the way you want to enter the key.. this could be either hexadecimal or decimal. The reason why there is a choice is that many STB does not let the user enter an hexadecimal digital in the MMI enquiry. So, in this case, the decimal mode shall be used. If your IRD let you enter hexadecimal digit, then, you can select any of this two modes. In order to select the mode: go to the module MMI, select settings, then select "select biss entry mode" select "decimal" or hexadecimal. let's suppose, for our sample, that we have selected DECIMAL. B) set the injected id to the module. Go to the mmi, then select "biss menu" then "set injected id". this will display "enter in decimal byte number 1/7 of the inject id". As you know the injected id is a 14 byte hexadecimal value. if you want to enter it in decimal, you have to make 7 group of 2 digits ( so, in our sample, that will be 0x45 0x25 0x3a 0xcd 0x56 0x98 0x4a) and convert each of theses 7 byte to the corresponding decimal value. in our example, 0x45 =69 decimal 0x25 =37 decimal 0x3a = 58 decimal 0xcd = 205 decimal 0x56 = 86 decimal 0x98 = 152 decimal 0x4a = 74 decimal) So, to the question "enter in decimal byte number 1/7 of the injected Id, you have to enter 069 ". Don't forget to always enter 3 digit (with a zero as the first digit if the decimal value is less than 100). it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 2/7".. enter 037 it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 3/7".. enter 058 it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 4/7".. enter 205 it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 5/7".. enter 086 it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 6/7".. enter 152 it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 7/7".. enter 074 when the 7 digit will have been entered, the module will go back to the "biss menu".

3 C) at this step, you now have to enter the services that have to be descrambled in our sample, this list does include 4 services, with service id 0x145, 0xab4, 0x18 and 0x25. If you have Biss dual module, you will ONLY be able to descramble 2 of theses 4 services at the same time. If you have a Biss multi pro module, you will be enter to do up to 12 services at the same. once again, since we have selected "decimal mode", you need to convert the hexadecimal value to decimal value : 0x145= 325 decimal 0xab4=2740 decimal 0x18= 24 decimal 0x25=37 decimal enter the MMI menu, then select "Biss menu" then "manage descrambled services". there, select. If the list is not empty, if will display the list of services already entered. To empty this list, press ok, this will lead to the menu, in which you can select "delete a service". This will display again the list. select the first service which shall be deleted. Then, do again "delete a service" as long as there are some services existing. When there will no more be any service, selecting "delete a service" or "" will answer by "no service defined yet". now, select "add a service" It will ask you enter service id in decimal ( ) Enter the first service id in decimal, completed by 0, so that there will be 5 digit.. so, in our sample, it will ask "select the biss mode for service (0145)" biss1 biss E since, in our sample, service 1 is in Biss 1 mode, select Biss 1 then, it will ask "select the SW KEY to use:" "sw main key" "key sw linked to the service" since this service is the only service using this SW, select "key sw linked to the service" it will display "enter in decimal byte number 1/6 of the sw key for service (0145)"

4 Once again, you have to convert the SW key from hexadecimal to decimal, using the same method: make 6 groups of 2 digits, and convert each of them to decimal. in our sample, 0x45 = 069 decimal 0x18 =024 decimal 0x57 =087 decimal 0xb4 =180 decimal 0x12 =018 decimal 0xc1 =193 decimal so, enter 069, then it will ask "enter in decimal byte number 2/6 of the sw key for service (0145)" enter 024 and so on for the 4 other sw keys. at this step, the service is now fully entered.. the module will display you the following Showing you that there is one service existing, with service id (or 0x145 hexa), in Biss mode 1, with is Own Key, not using either an injected id or a burried id, and not descrambling any service" Now, let's enter the second service: Select "add service", then enter the decimal value corresponding to the service (in our sample 0ab4=02740 decimal) Now, since this service is in Biss E mode, select Biss E to answer to the question. Since this service work with an injected id, select "Injected id" to answer to the question "select the 'active id to use for service (0ab4)" And now, since we have 2 services sharing the same ESW key, and since entering an ESW key is boring, we will try to use the same key for theses two services. So, to the question "select the esw key to use", select "ESW main key" the module will now display (0ab4) E M I 00 E min biss E M in key column means "Main key" (in opposition to the O for Own key) I in actid column means "Injected Id" (in opposition to an B for Buried Id" now, service 3

5 do the same "service add" enter now for service id, then "biss E", then "injected id" then "esw main key" after having added service 3, the following list will be displayed (0ab4) E M I (0018) E M I 00 now service 4 again "service add", now (for service id 0x25), "biss E", "burried id" (since in our sample this service use the buried id), key ESW linked to the service (since the ESW is not the same)and then, once by 1 the 8 byte in decimal corresponding to our service, so 0x45 = 069 decimal 0x7e =126 decimal 0xfa =250 decimal 0xef = 239 decimal 0xc1 =193 decimal 0x2d = 045 decimal 0x45 =069 decimal 0xea = 234 decimal after having added service 4, the following list will be displayed (0ab4) E M I (0018) E M I (0025) E O B 00 Now, it's nearly finished But something is missing. during our installation, we have said that the 2nd and the 3rd services are using a "main esw", but the main esw has NEVER been set. We need to go back to the biss menu, and there, to select "set MAIN ESW" option which will ask "enter in decimal byte number 1/8 of the main esw key". We have to do as usual, group the 16 hexa digit if the ESW key in 8 group of 2 digit, convert each group to decimal, and enter the 8 value 0x21 = 033 decimal 0x5a =090 decimal 0xf5 =245 decimal 0x21 =033 decimal 0x4c =076 decimal 0xde =222 decimal 0x5e =094 decimal 0x74 =116 decimal

6 In case the "way to enter the key" has been selected to hexadecimal, the procedure is 100% the same. You have to enter the injected id, add all services, and enter for each of them the mode, they key to be used, and if requested the value... and then enter the ESW main key (if there is any used) and/or the SW main key (once again, if a sw main key if used). The only difference is that, when you will have to enter a X digit value, instead of being force to make x/2 group of 2 hew digit, convert the resulting X/2 group to decimal, and enter the X/2 decimal value, you can enter the whole key in one MMI enquiry. please also notice that: - You don't have to do the whole installation each time. All value are stored to the eeprom memory of the cam, as soon as they are entered. So, when you will have setup a module for a consumer, you will no more have to enter to the mmi to setup it again as long as the key configuration (or the ) will not change. - You can modify a service, by selecting the "edit a service" in the "manage descramble service menu". But you can NOT modify the service id. So, if a service change, you have to delete the service, and to create a new one with the new service id. - You are not forced to enter all the services to have the module working. As soon as one service is fully entered (with all corresponding key entered also), the descrambling of the service will start. the last "nb_es" colum of the page show how many es in the service are currently selected. So, if you have already selected a service with the IRD, before entering the service in the MMI, and if the service has (for example, 2 elementary stream), the value of this column will be 2 when you will had the corresponding service.
