NOTE: If Command View TL is uninstalled using add remove programs and the data base and files were retained, install the same version of Command View TL before migration. To install Command View TL, you must uninstall the database and all files. Installing the Interface Manager upgrade If upgrading your Interface Manager from an I231 or lower release, ensure that the FTP server on the Interface Manager is clear of all extra files. CAUTION: intervention. Failure to clear these files may result in damage to the library and the need for service 1. If you have a firewall that prevents FTP access, disable the firewall. 2. Use FTP to connect to the Interface Manager: 1. Open a command shell on any PC connected to the LAN. 2. Enter the command ftp ipaddress, where ipaddress is the IP address of the Interface Manager card. 3. Log in with the user name ftp and no password. 3. Run del <filename> for each file to delete. CAUTION: HP recommends that an HP Service engineer perform any upgrade of your Interface Manager from an I2XX or lower release. The HP Service engineer will upgrade to version I232 using CVTL and the corresponding firmware bundle using the ESL c or EML c engineering document using CVTL After the library is an I232 and the corresponding bundles, Command View TL can be updated to The library can then be downloaded to I274. I232 and I240 cannot be upgraded with Command View TL and above. 8 Installation instructions

Use advisory ESL-e c or EML c to upgrade directly to I232 and CVTL from any revision less than I232. Then, perform the upgrade to I270 using CVTL CAUTION: Customers upgrading from HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series library firmware 6.20 to 6.22 or higher via Interface Manager or Command View TL in an HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series library will encounter the following message: Interface Manager (IM) unable to verify whether firmware update completed or not, please check the device. Wait until the library Operator Control Panel indicates the upgrade is complete. This will take about 20 minutes. The upgrade will complete with no issues. This error will not occur once the firmware is fully installed in the library. Failure to wait may result in damage to the library and the need for service intervention. CAUTION: ESL E-Series libraries that have had the cabinet controller or cabinet controller smart media/daughter board replaced without having library defaults reset afterwards, must restore library defaults prior to upgrading to 7.X or higher firmware (first included in the 2.4 or higher firmware bundle). If the history of the library is unknown, it is recommended that library defaults be reset prior to loading 7.0 to be safe. Library defaults are different than restoring the Interface Manager defaults; restoring library defaults must be done from the front panel (Operator Control Panel) of the library in the Setup menu. CAUTION: Customers upgrading from HP EML libraries from below 1200 need to go to 1200 first. Secondly if the firmware is below 1407 then they need to upgrade to 1407 next. Then they can upgrade to the latest firmware. EML libraries might not show the latest revision is loaded until the IFC is also rebooted if no host commands were sent to the library after the upgrade. This configuration data includes, but is not limited to: Management Station information Library settings Support contact information Interface Manager settings Partition settings (if configured) Secure Manager settings (if configured) Network settings SNMP settings License settings Migrations are increasingly complicated and HP strongly recommends that any migration be performed by an HP Service engineer using ESL c and EML c migration documents. All migrations to the I270 and code bundle must be preceded by upgrade to the I232 and code bundle (migration instructions are included in the readme file for I232). CAUTION: Upgrading to 2.x is not supported for ESL9000 libraries. These libraries can be fully managed using Command View for Tape Libraries 2.x. but will not accept the I200 or higher Interface Manager code. ESL9000 libraries will work only with version I182 Interface Manager code and CVTL Install the Interface Manager I274 release and firmware bundle (EML and ESL E-Series Libraries) NOTE: You must be at the I232 and 2.32 firmware bundle or higher before proceeding with the upgrades to the I274 and bundle. If at a revision lower than I232 or 2.32 firmware bundle first migrate to I232 and 2.32 firmware bundle to proceed. You must be at i250 and the 2.50 Frimware Bundle or above to download with Command View TL or later. Installation instructions 9

NOTE: If the EML library is below 1200 download 1200 first. Then if the EML library is below 1407 download 1407 first. Otherwise the RLC might need to be replaced. Three EML library versions are included in the latest firmware bundle. 1. Save the existing configuration to a safe location before performing any Interface Manager upgrade. 2. Download and unpack the EML or ESL E-Series firmware bundle and Interface Manager firmware I274 to the Command View for Tape Libraries client (for example, the desktop or laptop). Verify that the library, interface controller, drive (optional), and the Interface Manager firmware files are downloaded. 3. If your Interface Manager is at I232 or later, do not perform this step. Continue at the next step. This step tests the FTP session, and verifies that it can locate the files residing in the Interface Manager that need to be deleted. a. Create a text file with Notepad or WordPad and save it at test.txt. b. FTP to the Interface Manager as anonymous with no password. c. Enter put test.txt or copy the test.txt file to the Interface Manager. d. The ls, nlist, or dir command should indicate thattest.txt was just uploaded. If test.txt is not seen, then disable the firewall. FTP commands may not work correctly with certain firewalls (for example, Symantec Endpoint in Windows XP). e. Execute an ls, nlist, or dir command to verify that the directory does not have any entries. If it does, use the del <filename> command until all other files are removed. This will free up compact flash (CF) memory used by support tickets or saved configurations. If there is not enough CF memory, the Interface Manager migration might fail. NOTE: If you cannot see test.txt, stop downloading at this point or have a compact flash ready in case the download fails. 4. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to update the Interface Manager firmware. Follow the upgrade instructions to migrate directly to I Use Command View for Tape Libraries to upgrade: to firmware for the 2GB Fibre Channel Interface Controllers to firmware for the 4Gb Fibre Channel Interface Controllers 6. Use Command View for Tape Libraries to upgrade ESL G3, ESL E-Series, EML E-Series library firmware. If the EML E-Series is below 1200, upgrade to If the EML E-Series library is below 1407, upgrade to The EML library firmware can now be update to the newer firmware. 7. Verify that all of the drives are empty. 8. Upgrade the drive firmware, if the drive firmware in the bundle is newer than the drive firmware that is in your drives. 9. Save the new configuration to a safe location after performing any Interface Manager upgrade. Downgrading to previous releases Downgrading your Interface Manager to a previous release requires some special considerations: IMPORTANT: Remove any hardware that is not supported by the firmware release you are downgrading to. Failure to do so can cause the library to become inoperable. 10 Installation instructions

Multiple versions of the Command View for Tape Libraries software cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time. To use an older release of Command View for Tape Libraries, uninstall the current version before installing the older version. After performing the downgrade, you will need to restore system defaults through the restore system defaultscommand in the command line interface or through the Restore Factory Defaults page on the Support tab in Command View for Tape Libraries. CAUTION: All of your custom configuration information will be lost. If you have previously saved a configuration at the older release, you can easily restore this configuration after you have downgraded your Interface Manager through the restore system configcommand in the command line interface or through the Save / Restore page on the Configuration tab in Command View for Tape Libraries. Version Version Command View TL installation will continue if any version of PostGreSQL is already installed by any application. The cabling view for ESL-E and EML were showing the robot link connection is down when the robot does not have a link connection. Postgre would not install, non English Windows OS "users" group is different word. Upgraded to Apache server Fixed an issue that occurs in multiple session instances where an added host is edited in one session causing the host to be shifted in the other session. Fixes in Interface Manager firmware version I274 Rebooting the Interface Manager after turning the auto support ticket feature on or off from the CLI is no longer required. The CLI session is no longer terminated if out-of-range port numbers are given for the CLI command Set Interface Hostport. An error message is now displayed. Fixed an issue so that It is now possible to set IPV6 destinations for SNMP traps. This can be done through the CLI command Set Net Snmptrap or through the CVTL GUI with the SNMP Alerts settings Removed the site command from the CLI command show system contact, since it was using the same database entry as the location command. Other parts of the CLI only have the location command. Fixed an issue where library power-on SCSI Unit Attentions are no longer recorded in library support tickets (ALM 220). Fixed an issue so that It is now possible to specify the name of the configuration file when performing a Restore System Config command from the CLI. 14 Previous Version Fixes

Version Fixed an issue so that if a drive reboot fails during a Restore Defaults the Interface Manager will still be rebooted Fixed an issue where Show Drive Info IP now correctly displays drive numbers for drive numbers 10 and above. Modified the support ticket code for LTO 6 drives to use the drive s snapshot feature, rather than individual SCSI commands Fixes in Interface Manager firmware version I273 Updated the SNMP server to a much newer version. This fixes all known SNMP-related memory leaks. To reduce memory consumption, the SNMP log file /var/log/snmpd.log is no longer created. When updating to I273 firmware and later, if the files /var/log/snmpd.log and/or lastlog.log are present, they will be automatically removed. Fixed issue where the Interface Controllers FRU Wizard would not always process all new Interface Controllers, and could unexpectedly move the SIPP master. Fixed the drive sort order for the Show Host Access CLI command. Changed the reporting process when errors occur during encryption enrollment to a SKM/ESKM. Now, if there is any error, the status will show that encryption is not enabled. Fixed an issue where EML libraries could turn on Ethernet Broadcasting after a Restore System Defaults. If custom LUN mappings are selected when configuring host access, and an Interface Controllers is started with a LUN number near 127, auto-populated LUNs will wrap to zero after reaching 127. Fixed an issue where if a directory in the Interface Manager that normally contains optional scripts becomes corrupted, the directory will automatically be cleaned up when an Interface Manager code update is performed. Fixed the column alignment when running the CLI command show mgmt log event. Version Fixed an issue where licenses could show up in the Un-managed Licenses section of the License Key Summary tab. Generated support ticket details can now be viewed in the browser. Fixes in Interface Manager firmware version I272 Fixes for numerous CLI formatting errors. Fixed a potential issue where a Failed to Migrate Drive error could be reported when using the Drive Update Wizard to migrate a LTO1, LTO2, or LTO3 drive to a LTO4 or LTO5 drive. The error was most likely to occur on a partitioned library. Corrected handling of the restore config operation. Now, a config file created up to two major revisions prior to the current firmware can be restored. Fixed an issue where collecting a support ticket from an LTO3 drive could result in a blank ticket. Fixed an issue so that it is no longer possible to assign xxx IP addresses to EML libraries; this IP address range is not compatible with hardware in an EML library. Fixed an issue so it is no longer possible to set the IP broadcast address on EML libraries. Fixed an issue where switching between IPV6 and IPV4 in a single operation, on an EML library, the OCP would not show the IPV4 address. Previous Version Fixes 15

When a SNMP Trap String is modified in the CVTL GUI, the new Trap String now takes effect immediately. SNMP read requests to unsupported MIB identifiers no longer cause the SNMP log file to grow. SNMP reads of the standard system MIB now return correct values for host name, system location, and contact. The CLI command Show Library Topology now reports correct drive information. ESL libraries will now automatically trigger cleaning tape tickets. ESL and EML event codes are now sent as SNMP Traps, for Remote Support. When performing a manual migration from a SKM encryption server to an eskm encryption server, performing a Validate SKM Connectivity operation will update the displayed key manager type. Version Command View TL no longer calculates read margins on small transfer sizes because the data is not accurate. Command View TL now requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6.0, Update 24, also known as 6.0. The TapeAssure Overview page now shows the following message for libraries that are I250 or lower: The libraries need a firmware upgrade to be TapeAssure compatible... Fixed an issue on the Command View TL Launcher where the ESL Library had an EML name and serial number. Fixed an issue on the Tape Properties page where the Drive Serial Number was labeled as the Library Serial Number. Fixed a case when Command View TL was not displaying drive support tickets if a cleaning tape was in the drive. Copy the files From <previously installed Command View TL location>\tapeassurebackup To <newly installed Command View TL location>\tapeassurebackup TapeAssure data is not shown for ESL-E, ESL G3, MSL and Autoloader drives Symptom: In rare cases, TapeAssure data is not shown for a very few number of ESL-E, ESL G3, MSL and Autoloader drives. Workaround: None. This issue will be addressed in a future release. Found in version: After doing a FRU replacement of an Interface Controller with no drives attached might not come back to a green state Symptom: The Interface Controller has the maps pushed to it but the Interface Manager has missed that this has happed. Workaround: Telnet to the Interface Manager and run the show host access refresh. This command causes the Interface Manger to get mapping and host access information up to date. If for some reason this does not work rebooting the Interface Manager or Interface Controller should also work. Found in version: i274 and lower 18 Workarounds

On an Encrypted library after doing a FRU replacement of LTO5 or LTO6 drives the library might present an error against the LTO5 or LTO6 drives as "Unable to open management path" Symptom: The encryption path to the LTO5 or LTO6 drives IP address of the drive just removed is not removed from the data base in the IM. Workaround: Rebooting the Interface Manager will clean up the IP address for the encryption path. Found in version: i274 and lower ESL-E libraries with LTO3 drives can hang during unload Symptom: The ESL-e library takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to do a move command but the LTO3 drive will not unload and gets the error Tape move for tape with barcode AA[xxxx] failed 020b800b Command aborted by user. The LTO3 drive and the ESL-e library are hung and a library reboot is required to recover. The ESL-e retry on the drive unload, the host software sending a load command and the Interface Manger sending the support ticket at the same time is causing the LTO3 drive to hang. Workaround: Back revision only the Interface Manager code to I270. If I274 is required for a different issue then in the Interface Manger CLI send the command set support disable can be used but this will disable tape assure. Found in version: i271 and later Interface Manager Firmware will not let it be chosen in the download list Symptom: Occasionally if multiple files are chosen to be downloaded the Interface Manager firmware will not show up in the list to check. Workaround: Go back to the previous page and wait about 20 seconds. Then click on next again. Found in version: Interface manager is yellow Secure Manager needs to be synchronized Symptom: Secure Manager inoperative - One or more interface controller device map(s) are out of synchronization with the access control settings. Please run the "Synchronize" action available on the Secure Manager page face controller device map(s) are out of synchronization with the access control settings. Please run the "Synchronize" action available on the Secure Manager page. Workaround: Manually run the Sync Sec from a ssh or telnet session to the IM. If this fails, reboot the component that the WWN is listed as belonging to then do a resynchronize before calling support. Found in version: I270 and later Command View TL user interface is unresponsive Symptom: After selecting Host Access Actions Add Access Control Group (for an EML and ESL E-Series library), the Command View TL user interface becomes unresponsive. Workaround: Close the browser window and manage the library again. Found in version: Restoring the configuration of the library does not reflect the restored configuration Symptom: Restoring the configuration of the library from the Interface Manager CLI does not reflect the restored configuration in the Command View GUI. Workaround: After restoring the configuration of the library from Interface Manager CLI, manage the library using the Command View TL GUI, then navigate to the pages in configuration pane and click Refresh. Found in version: Workarounds 19

Command View TL upgrade libraries with i240 code of earlier Symptom: The firmware downloads will fail, hang or timeout even if connectivity passes. Workaround: CVTL cannot upgrade any libraries with i240 or older Interface Manager firmware. Use or versions of command view TL to upgrade the Interface Manager firmware or use the cli method to update the Interface Manager code first to i270 or greater. Found in version: Command View TL upgrade libraries with i240 code of earlier Symptom: On a Windows 7 Operating System with the Power Options mode set to turn off the display or put the system to sleep the following error can occur when accessing the system after it has turned off the display or gone into sleep mode. Deteched duplicate HTTP-based FlexSession, generally due to the remote host disabling session cookies. Session cookies must be enabled to manage the client connection correctly." Workaround: Refresh the Command View TL and login again, or relaunch Command View TL. Found in version: Support ticket.zip files do not have the service.log file for the management station Symptom: Support ticket.zip files do not have the service.log file for the management station Workaround: To view the service.log file, Launch Command View TL and manage the library. 1. On the left pane, navigate to Support tab. 2. Go to Action Save Management Station Log as... and save the.zip file. By default the file name will be mslogs.zip. 3. Extract the mslogs.zip from the saved location. The service.log for the management station will be available. Found in version: Date/Time are incorrect after Daylight Savings Time (DST) change Symptom: Libraries that are not configured with Network Time Protocal (NTP), the date/time is wrong after the Daylight Saving Time (DST) flipover. Workaround: On the libraries that are not configured with Network Time Protocal (NTP), Daylight Saving Time (DST) has to be applied manually. Found in version: or later Secure Manager cannot communicate with the robotics, access control changes cannot be made Symptom: ERROR: cannot communicate with the Robotics communication must be established before Host Access configuration can occur. is displayed in the host access node under the configuration tab. This occurs when a configuration file is restored to the library, and the interface controller currently hosting the robot LUN is different from the interface controller that is specified to perform this task in the configuration file. Workaround: Reboot the interface manager to clear the problem. Avoid this error by saving a new configuration file after any configuration change on the library. Found in version: or later The command line interface can disappear immediately after passwords are entered Symptom: The command line interface can disappear immediately after passwords are entered. 20 Workarounds

Workaround: This is caused by logging into the Interface Manager before it is ready. Wait a few seconds, then log in again. Found in version: I270 or later Postgre database install failure Symptom: When installing Command View TL, the installer might display Setup could not create the cvtl_db database. Workaround: Contact HP Support. Found in version: or later Interface Manager database malformed Symptom: The error An error occurred while updating data. Please retry the operation. is followed by SQLite error 11: database disk image is malformed. Workaround: Contact HP Support. Found in version: or later LTO3 cleaning cartridge information is not saved Symptom: Most LTO3 drives are unable to save cleaning cartridge information. The LTO3 drive hardware revision that is capable of saving cleaning cartridge information may be identified by a firmware revision starting with "U". Workaround: Install an LTO3 drive with a firmware revision that begins with U. Found in version: or later After a firmware download, the 8 Gb Fibre Channel link disconnects Symptom: After downloading firmware to a drive, some switches will lose the link to the drive. Workaround: Make sure that your 8Gb Fibre Channel switch has the latest firmware, as recent switch fixes have been introduced. If the problem persists, either 1) reboot the drive again with Command View TL, or 2) unplug the fibre channel cable at the switch, then plug it back in. Found in version: or later Modifying system network card configuration causes NOT BOUND IN REGISTRY errors Symptom: On the management station, if you disable the active network card and enable a different network card, Command View TL will display NOT BOUND IN REGISTRY errors. Workaround: Restart the Command View TL service after the network cards have been altered. Found in version: or later Secure Manager will not synchronize when there are more than 255 hosts Symptom: If there are more than 225 stale hosts hosts that were on the SAN at one point, but are no longer present Secure Manager can not synchronize. Workaround: Reboot any LTO4 and LTO5 devices in the library. Found in version: or later The operation restore system defaults fails when restoring advanced LTO drives Symptom: When restoring an advanced LTO tape drive (LTO4 or LTO5), the operation restore system defaults might fail. Workaround: Retry the operation. If it fails a second time, contact HP support. Workarounds 21

Found in version: or later Command View for Tape Libraries indicates that TapeAssure is disabled or not collecting for some libraries Symptom: EML and ESL E-Series Tape Libraries shipped before November 2007 may require a RAM upgrade in order to be TapeAssure capable. Without sufficient RAM on the Interface Manager card, TapeAssure will be disabled Workaround: A customer-installable RAM upgrade can be ordered as HP part number from the HP Parts Store ( or PartSurfer ( After replacing the part using the included instructions, remove and re-add the library on the Command View for Tape Libraries Launcher screen Found in version: or later A drive reboot fails when initiated from Command View for Tape Libraries or the Interface Manager command line interface Symptom: After initiating a drive reboot operation, a Command View TL user interface or command line interface error appears, and the drive is left in a 'yellow' or 'red' health state. Workaround: Try the reboot operation again, either from the Command View TL user interface, the command line interface, or the library Operator Control Panel. If the retry does not succeed, reboot the Interface Manager card to force a rediscovery of all drives. A reboot of the entire library will also clear the symptom, but is rarely necessary. Found in version: or later Firewall considerations for the HP Secure Key Manager and HP Enterprise Secure Key Manager Symptom: The Firewall prevents communication with an HP Secure Key Manager (SKM) and HP Enterprise Secure Key Manger (ESKM) appliance. Workaround: The following network ports are the recommended ports to be used by an HP SKM and ESKM appliance to communicate with an Interface Manager, or with the SKM or ESKM management user interface, or for SKM and ESKM communication to other devices. All ports are TCP and SSL capable. 22 (SSH login to SKM or ESKM) bidirectional 161 (SNMP from SKM or ESKM) bidirectional 9000 (Interface Manager login to SKM or ESKM) bidirectional 9081 (FIPS status server from SKM or ESKM) bidirectional 9001 (SKM or ESKMnetworking) bidirectional 9443 (Web login to SKM or ESKM) bidirectional Found in version: or later Firewall configuration rules Symptom: The Management Station cannot communicate with the web browser (Command View for Tape Libraries).
