1 Welcome to the new McWhinney Remote Access! Previously we had two remote solutions, Citrix and XenApp. With Citrix you could access work applications and with XenApp you opened a virtual desktop. The new solution combines both in one location, with the exception that you can now access your McWhinney PC! We can also setup your tablet or smart phone with the new remote solution so you can access your PC, work applications, and documents with the touch of a button! Bring your tablet or phone to us and we will get it setup for you. Open the new remote access: 1. Go to and click on the remote access button. The first time you open this web page you will be asked to install a new piece of software. If there is old Citrix software on your computer it may remove this first and then install the new software. Click the I agree with the Citrix license agreement box and then click on INSTALL: (This software will work on PC s and MAC s) You should be asked if you want to run or save this file, please select run. After the install is complete it will redirect you to the logon page. 2. Type in your network username and password and click Log on; you are now logged into the main page:

2 (If this is the very first time you logged into remote access and opened an application it will take up to a minute for the initial application to open. This is normal as your profile needs to be created on the servers hosting the applications. The next time you logon your first application should take around 15 seconds to open, and then after that the following applications should open quickly) Open your McWhinney PC 3. To access your McWhinney PC click on the My McWhinney PC icon. You will see a logon box to access your computer. If this is the first time you opened your PC from the computer you are on you may need to click past a security warning to get to the logon box. Use your network password to logon. Your McWhinney PC should now open full screen. If you need to minimize the PC click on the minimize button on the top of your screen where your computer name is. If you want to close out of your McWhinney PC click on the X button on the top; this will insure everything you are working on stays open, and will automatically lock your PC at work. Open Network Document 4. If you want to open a document from your network drives like the T drive, click on one of the Microsoft applications like Word, click on File, and then Open. The first time you open one of these applications you may see the following box:

3 Click the box Do not ask me again for this site, and then click Permit all access. After the box opens scroll down on the left side and click on Computer. You will be able to select one of your network drives on the right to open a document. You will also see other drives that will be labeled, Local Disk (C: on JEFFL WIN7). These are the drives on the local computer you are connecting from. So basically you can open a Word document on your local computer and then save it up to the network drive, or vice versa. Printing Documents 5. You can print a document either at home, on your locally connected printer, or on a printer at work. By default your locally installed printer will be available when you open a document. If you want to print the document on a printer at work you will need to add it. In Word click on File and then Print. Click on the down arrow on the right side of your printer:

4 At the bottom of the drop down click on Add Printer. In the name box type the name of the printer you want to print to and click Find Now. Click on the printer in the bottom box and then click ok. The printer is now installed on your remote session and you will be able to print your document to it. The printer will be there the next time you logon to remote access and open a document. Alternate Access to a Virtual Desktop 6. On the top left of the Remote Access window you will see a tab called Desktops. This will be used in the case that your McWhinney PC has a problem and you cannot connect to it, or in the event of a disaster recovery scenario. If you click this tab you will see a McWhinney virtual desktop. You can click on this icon and a virtual desktop will open, and you will have access to the network. Only use this connection in one of the two scenarios provided above.
