PRE(RO54090) When the CHPIDs CA Vtape VTS is using for its Virtual Devices encounter an error and go into subchannel recovery, the operating system will issue HALT SUBCHANNEL and CLEAR SUBCHANNEL instructions. These instructions cause CA VTAPE VTS to schedule an SRB to eventually execute a purge SVC. This activity is asynchronous and time dependent. The HALT is executed and begins recovery by issuing new SENSE and SENSE GROUP ID CCWs. The purge occurs and catches the recovering CCWs, triggering a new round of HALT and CLEAR SUBCHANNEL instructions. This cycle continues without end. In response to a hardware error, multiple IOS071I, IOS002A, and IOS050I messages are issued. These may be accompanied by SVTSR10008E messages. Jobs may ABEND with S714 errors. Jobs may ABEND. More generally, any error in the copying process causes CA Vtape to revert to STEPLIB mode, with no indication except messages which the customer is almost sure to miss. Initialization fails with Abend User 4. Action : Split maintenance level protection must be able to allocate an existing private library. Be sure that the library exists and is not allocated to another TSO session. SVTnI7307E Split maintenance level protection - copy to TASKLIB failed Reason : Split maintenance level protection failed because the copy operation failed. The most common cause is abend E37, because the library is not big enough. Initialization fails with Abend User 4. Action : If the problem persists, fix the problem reported in any error messages. If the volume is not resident, the Tape Management System issues an SVT1 START RECALL=volser console command to trigger a recall to cache. When queried CA Vtape VTS is not replying with the correct status. Volumes, after the first in a multivolume dataset, are recalled even though they are already in cache.
